Say... is there any way to store a game's files somewhere with Steam?
One of the few things that keeps me from buying games from them is that I usually install and uninstall games very frequently, and rarely have more than 2 installed at any given time.
I wouldn't mind downloading 8-9 GB's once, but having to do it again after uninstalling it... |
Yes
1) There is a tool called backup and restore games, but I think it's quite slow
2) I think you can just copy the game files from Steamapps folder

The backup tool is definately slow. Tried with Deus Ex (720 MB) - the process took ~90 sec (probably depends on CPU speed), copying the files takes ~20 sec.
ASUS GTX 660 2GB, AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE, MSI 870-G45, 4GB DDR3 1333, Plextor M5 Pro 128GB, WD Red 1TB

It takes more time than copying the files because Steam compresses them, the backup was just 402 MB.
EDIT: Didn't compress MW2, though.

I've done it three or four times and every time all I do is copy the whole steam folder to another drive. Then I'll reload the machine. I'll reinstall steam and then I copy the whole folder back. Then let steam fix itself. Takes a lot less time than using their backup thing or redownloading everything.

dont even need to do that if u got OS on sep drive just run steam from another drive job done it works everytime here.. it does repair its reg stuff so no biggie.. same as all my mmo's etc all run with a os reinstall doesnt need registry entries, wow for example has always been that way.. handy

Bought the indie pack, everything else is meh.
Also, I think Tropico is 7,5€, not 4,25€.

I bought Tropico just in case if I get bored with fps games. I'm also big fan of SimCity 3000 and 4.

Is it worth it? I had a quick look at the MW1 thread here, but the last post was a couple of years ago. :/ What're the multiplayer numbers like? And how long does the campaign last?

MP wise it's better than MW2, dunno about BO.
Don't remember clearly about the campaign length but I think it's slightly longer than MW2/BO, but not by much.
