The game engine overhaul as of 1.4 alters the framerate from the previous 60 FPS limit to a 30 FPS limit, likely mostly beneficial for console users as to avoid frequent framerate drops and gains (Making it feel "jerky" and "unsmooth") it does also along with many other engine enhancements completely eliminate stuttering, animation, shadows and physics related issues (Grass and draw distance is a bit on the low-side still but not very noticeable unless you're looking for it.) though many people will find 30 FPS a bit low.
(I have no issues with it, stutter remover for Fallout 3 and Oblivion both relied on the 30 FPS limit, and some game engine tweaks and quirks, to fully remove stuttering there as well, Gamebryo specific issues also complicate stuff a bit with those older variants of the engine.) |
As long as it doesn't stutter, the 30 fps cap can be fine for me, since we're not talking about a first person shooter which requires extreme precision and accuracy

That 30 fps cap absolutely kills the game for me. The animations of EVERYTHING is so jerky, it actually hurts my eyes, dont think I can continue.

Try turning timesacle animations off, if you haven't already. It worked for me.

It is off by default for me. Tried everything and just whenever I run or move my mouse to start looking around, it just feels so jerky. And its not HW limitations because mouse movement feels smooth, its just I dont think those animations were designed to run at 30 fps.

Could be, originally there was a 60 FPS limit and it was designed to work with that so what you mention could be a side effect to this solution they've chosen.
(Varies from person to person and on how you perceive things, it looks fine to me but the animations are a bit rough and often exaggerated a bit.)
EDIT: As the option pop-up info menu says the timesplice setting only updates the value you enable it for every few frames instead of every frame, helps performance but reduces visual quality.

The first noticeable thing in terms of the engine updates would be the airship which is now metallic and very shiny as part of the full texture replacer, it's rather subtle aside from the replaced textures if you already had the 1.2 / 1.3 game and played that since they did a similar thing there, this shininess or increase in specular power also goes for all metallic surfaces and overall the parallax effect, SSAO and sunray shaders are slightly more noticeable.
(Look up trough the trees in the starting area to see the sunray effect for example or check the stone surfaces for the parallax effect, armor detail is also somewhat sharper and especially the metallic variants really shine now such as Richards variant of champion armor.)
All in all it's subtle though so not something you usually spot or think about.
Since the tutorial vids for the fortress sections are gone altogether I imagine this is one place with some of the larger changes and overhauls though I haven't even reached the fjords or done much at all in the valley yet.
(Taking a slight pause from the expansion areas at the moment.)

Great game so far. Im amazed at the feeling of running around a fantasy world, feels more alive.
After playing DeathSpank I cry out "Why dont I have a key to open this beautiful chest!" whenever I see a chest I cant open or dont have the keys for.
Dont mess with God, he can impregnate your girlfriend/wife without taking his pants off!

Hahahahahaha...Gods, I needed that: another Larian game that makes me laugh.
The humour is even better than in the first one.
Spoiler: | "I thought a little cough syrup might help", said the skeleton, "but if you're here then you might help"
And others, lots of others
|
Playing FoV now, of course.
Oh, and the strangest of things: the animations seemed, well, strange until I maxed out everything I could. Now it's quite smooth everywhere.

Yeah I see that I duplicated the three first and three last, also from testing these three work best and with Ego Draconis not all codes did something so they probably used some of those.
Armor requires level 15 and consists of five pieces including a weapon and jewelry so one set might just be a cuirass, helmet and gloves with another being cuirass, legs and helmet and such so they're not complete.
Also will only work for Ego Draconis and not Flames of Vengeance but their rather low-level makes them unsuitable anyway though the set bonuses are pretty strong.
