This game requires WAY too much GPU resources for how it looks, nice optimization there. Haven't really gauged it, but maybe some optimization is required.
Game fails to deal properly with the drive security of certain parts of the C:/ drive leading to issues of beeing unable to load mods etc. Fixed in 1.0.0.20.
Game requires insane amount of RAM, optimization issues. Haven't experienced anything atrocious. And I only have 4 GBs of RAM.
Failing codec for intro video, prevents many people from starting the game. Might've been fixed by now, but you can work around it simply skipping/renaming the intro.
Multiplayer: LOL Yes, there's some issues.
Failing savegames Maybe that's what human_steel is going through, who knows.
Interface bugs, beeing stuck on one interface unable to end turn. Interface decides to make some buttons randomly stop working. No serious problems here. Maybe one temporary glitch here and there.
Dissapearing resources Never happened to me.
Huge amount of CTDs Not a single one in 350+ turns.
Naval issues, land subs. Haven't experienced it.
Bad AI coding and bugs like them suddenly stopping to build if they are on small islands or not expanding anymore. Yeah, the AI needs some work. |
Yes, naturally, that's all my experience, but what's your point, doctor? There hasn't been a single game perfect on release in years (which is, in fact, unfortunate), and all the problems you've pointed out are very much patchable. Civ4 was hardly perfect on release either.
And the fact that you've been putting every single bug you read about in a single bag doesn't say much. There are millions of system configurations out there, many people don't have a clue about managing their computers, and many others who try to run the game while below minimum requirements. The bugs naturally need fixing, but the situation isn't nearly as apocalyptic as you portray it. Nobody gets all those bugs all at once, and you have people like me who aren't affected that much.

Is it possible to connect a city on an island built without access to water to a capital city on another island? If both had access to water it would be possible to build harbors in both of them, but what if they are not?

It's also been said that you can use Ctrl+S to save during multiplayer games.

If you read a bit back you see that a certain person asked me to list all the bugs. That comment is merely ment towards that person and only that person since I know hes the ONLY person in here expecting such a list.

How is that odd? It needs to process the other civs when you hit next turn. |
In my experience, at some point when you get a lot of cities on the map (or the AI builds lots of cities), the saving will begin to take ages. 30 seconds+ for mine. Usually, when the AIs are making their turns, the game will be very responsive, even in endgame - you can go into cities, change production focus etc. even go into the civopedia and browse around. They move all their units at the same time (as you notice when you get mass attacked) so their turns don't take very long all together.
When the game saves however, the game will freeze up completely to the point of Windows saying "not responding." I suspect there is something very unoptimized going on inside there. But in the late-game, you can disable autosaving when just doing quick turns outside of wartime.

I experience the opposite, saving is very fast, but during computer moves the game is very sluggish. I have a Core i7 920 @3.2 Ghz

This is also true. But I was unable to load such save later. At least with LAN. Never actually tried internet game.

The negative hype is all over the place on the official forums. People who just rants about how Civ V is not like Civ IV, warlords and beyond the sword all together on release day.
IMO the game is good, though should be patched asap, and I don't have glitches, crashes or anything at all. Lucky me I guess.

I'm on a QX9650@3.8ghz and it's the same here, saving works fine but the game does become kinda sluggish when I press end turn. That's to be expected I'd say though, with all the stuff happening at the same time. And even at turn 800'ish at the largest map the turns still only take 6-7 seconds to process or so.

No it isn't. Skidrow didn't release it with their update and the files have not been uploaded and posted anywhere in this thread

Can anyone confirm if the SDK is linked to legit accounts, or is it just a matter of finding the download somewhere other than Steam?

In theory yes. Although the way how files are structured between DLC and mods is pretty much different, so actually making mod from Babylon will be a chore.
And doing finishing touch on any mod is really problematic without access to modbuddy.

When you want to load a multiplayer savegame just go the same way as hosting a game. In the setup screen of the new game you see the option load game.

I find Civ 5 a bit meh... I play only on prince level, but find it quite pointless. You can take out 4-5 civilizations before first computer player has made second city. Guess it's different on more difficult levels, but I don't like playing on levels where computer gets tougher due to cheating/giving it bonuses.
I'm a huge fan of Civ 4 and I guess I was waiting for something more like Civ 4. Have to give this some balancing time and hope for some über mods by the fans.
Oh and I sign all the instability problems. Mine crashes quite regularly, around every 100 rounds (unpatched version).
