I think you are confusing streamlined with simplified.

Streamlined to the point where one mousclick can win the game. I remember a certain youtube video....

Seriously "streamlining" by removing features instead of FIXING them is hardly what you can call streamlining. If they just fixed what was wrong with civ IV and added some minor features the game would have already been better then the bugfest of incompetence it is now. This game has failed its audience and for me all the next civs are written off until proven otherwise.

Lets hope the modding community will save the day from the lol wut developers.

its shit compared to Civ2 ,
in Civ 5 town management is gone , Civ encyclopaedia is cut ... all menus are simplified , its the MOST DERP VERSION ON THE WHOLE SERIES

the only thing they changed compared to Civ 4 was removing the cartoon look that was the civ series take on reality ,making Civ 5 ultra realistic , dark and gritty and adding more advanced scouting Ai for your units

that's it , oh and they simplified the shit out of it

A lot more than you have, obviously, as I think you must be playing a different game?

Just go back to your PS3 and let the big boys handle the PC gaming side of things.

See what I mean about 'console fanboy'? <---- nothing really to do with Civ 2 or Civ V (his Sig gives the game away anyway) but he's talking out of his ass as regards this title.

Smile

Lutzifer: apart from calling him a console-fanboy who talks out of his ass, i dont see much actual argument. If you do not want to be temp or perma banned, i d tone down the insults and up the factual criticism. Consider this a friendly warning

That's not how Civ sequels work. They always try something new, and for better or worse, I'm damn glad they have that approach in an industry in which sequels are generally exactly what you're demanding: remakes with minor improvements.

you do know you can have the Stack of Doom if you so choose right? Everything is moddable. you can have all the same stuff as Civ IV if you wanted... And with the mods that are on the way, it will only be a short time til it's mostly like civ IV.. For another instance, you can also play as the civ states if you wish, there's another that changes difficulty too so it's more like civ IV, it's all there/

Have you even tried the multiplayer? Or have you even tried starting the dx9 version? Did you try to break a peace treaty? Dont get me started man, just google civ V and crash/bug/glitch and you'll get more pages then when you google tits(this is not true Laughing ).

Ah a new approach uh? Not exactly what they did here, did they? So tell me what have they removed and what have they added. The list of the latter might be a bit short though so you better start with that one. Considering what were still broken concepts in Civ IV: Corperations, Religion, etc. They just REMOVED those features and left the rest intact. I do like the hexagons however, they are damn sexy. The buying tiles thing is also pretty nice, gives interesting results. Now how detailed were the leaders in civ IV? How much customization was possible? Oh wait they removed that to did they.

I mean I like dem hexagons, but they arent THAT sexy.

No, I didn't play multiplayer and I never will. I don't play turn based strategies on multiplayer.
Yes, I played dx9 for a couple of hours on high settings and I've had absolutely no problems.
And, if you bothered to read the last 2-3 pages here, or just the Internet, you would know, that the peace treaty bug has already been fixed.

So please, I want some more info on those numerous horrible bugs you have encountered.

I think this version of Civ actually makes you think about how you want to expand your empire depending on the victory you want. In Civ4 you basically were just trying to expand as fast as you can in order to keep your economy going. Managing city states in Civ5 is pretty critical as the bonuses you get are substantial if you play things correctly. Also I think the AI isn't that great, but they are each pursuing different strategies to win. Makes them fee like actual civilizations, rather than identical empires with a different head of state.

Ultimately things are different in Civ5. To be honest I don't really miss some aspects, like having to manage corruption, religion or corporations. They were mostly just fluff and I hardly paid attention to them.

I will agree there are some annoying bugs that I hope they fix soon. The peace agreement never expiring being a pretty big one. I'm also not a huge fan your units auto-exploring and pissing off city states, since your relationship with them is a pretty important part of the game.

Every civ after civ2, added something and removed something.

Soren Johnson (civ3/4 AI guru) explained this very well.

In order to keep current player base and in same time get new players to the game, you need to keep similar level of complexity (just piling up stuff would scare newcomers, and hurt franchise in the long run).

So the goal with every new game was to remove 33% of least fun elements, improve 33% of old elements and add 33% of new stuff.

And here's the SDK...!

A number of modding tools are now available for download on Steam, including the WorldBuilder, Lua script IDE, ModBuddy, and Nexus art importer.

In addition, 2K Games has put together a community-driven Civ5 wiki that explains some of these features. Here is their description of ModBuddy:

"ModBuddy is an integrated development environment (IDE) for Civilization 5 mod development. Features include a code editor with syntax coloring for Lua and SQL, source code control (SCC) plugin support, and the ability to upload finished mod packages to the Civilization 5 Community Hub. ModBuddy is built off of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Isolated Shell."

To download the SDK, once in Steam, simply click Library, then Tools, and search for "Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK". Happy modding!

can anyone confirm that using the new skidrow patch is removing the multiplayer option?

Cant seem to connect or host any games nomore.

I changed the new ini file and off course the steamclient.dll. I changed seperatly, restarted steam every time but it just doesnt seem to work Sad
I just had a nice game online and we fast installed the patch becaused it crashed to desktop.

Btw.. anyone noticed when trying to close steam while civ5 is running it says please close Pearl harbor demo first Smile

Don' know about MP, but LAN appears to work OK (as long as both players have different name).

P.S.
Could steam_appid.txt be a problem?
In skidrow release, it has id that has nothing to do with civilization. it is supposed to be 8930, not 8630.

That's due to wrong appid. Skidrow put 8630 (perl harbor demo), instead proper 8960.

What a brilliant game this is.
Once i load this game I'm on it for hours.
Does anyone know what the multiplayer is like?
Wouldn't mind trying that.
So i will buy the game if the multiplayer is good.
