Risen IS Gothic, it's the real Gothic 4, so in that particular statement you could have just said the offspring of Gothic and Fable.
Gothic being the man of the house obviously and Fable being the whiny little bitch

Risen was almost just as good as the previous Gothics (1-2) but it did feel shorter and less "fleshed out", the last 2 chapters were awful which was a big let down.
i do think this game has some really nice graphics though.. the forests seems very atmospheric, the little that was shown. That's the only positive i can think of.

I'm actually surprised for people not liking the graphics. Other than facial textures, they seemed pretty nice to me.
But like I said, it's not gothic and you shouldn't expected it to be so. But me as an rpg fan I'll be glad to dig my claws into it and finish the game, I just dont find it THAT bad.

Well, having played the demo, I decided to play gothic 3, which I left out at the time. I installed with the community patch 1.74, and I have to admit, I have such a fucking good time, I can't describe it. I barely grinded through the first hour or so, but then, I fell in love.
It's a shame G4 is going the way it is, because the gothic series is unique, and the best free roamer I have played. I never liked TES series, and the gothic series beats TES in any regard.

Haven't played the demo yet but from the sounds of things it'll be exactly like I thought based on videos and reading about it.
An average RPG that will sell like hotcakes on consoles and be crowned the best RPG ever by the sheep that finally get to be the shepherd.
Edit: After playing it only thing I can say is Risen is better in every department based on the demo and this game just feels super streamlined. What the fuck is up with the automatic jumping around combat? It doesn't feel like I'm even doing anything.. I swear I felt like the stunlocking pigs of Gothic 3 against goblins and humans.
Oh well I'll give the full demo a go but the impression this one gave wasn't very good.

Yeah, that would be awesome if they die. And they should take this turd with them.
And the rain is laughable. Before they had in mind to bring it to the consoles, they showed new technologies where the rain generates puddles, fills them with water. Seems like it got cut out like many other cool things.

You're partly wrong. PB could do a Gothic5 but Jowood would have the publishing rights. So, never gonna happen.

They obviously wanted to make another gothic, but had to "settle" for a spiritual, instead of real sequel, because jowood holds the gothic license. |
Maybe a spin-off, same universe, different hero. I remember reading a while ago, before Gothic 3 came out, that they pushed the story of the nameless hero as fa as they wanted and that it would be the definite end of his adventures.
So who cares about Gothic 4: Idiot Edition,when we have Risen, a much better game?
And a sequel in the works.

I loved to Gothic series but I think PB should do some work on the Risen graphics engine.
I personally like the low spec requirements but after seeing what an updated engine could do in Arcania and I'm only referring to the graphics part I'm a bit inclined to think that PB could do a lot more on the atmosphere department.
Also you guys keep forgetting that the second part of Risen was utter shit. I don't know what happened there but dropping the entire exploration and RPG part and replacing it with mindless killing was a big let down for me....pretty much what Joowood is doing with Arcania (ending boss battle anyone -> one word "mediocrity"). Hope this isn't a sign for things to come.

I wouldn't have gone as far as to say "the second part" -- personally I thought chapters 1-3 were spot on, chapter 4 was the grindfest boredom.
