im not really looking forward to it as i did with the others.. i wish it was rome 2 :/

RTW has the best mods by far, so it's still completely playable today. Shogun hasn't had the same luck, so it's nice to get an updated version.

Rome was/is my favorite in the series, but it doesn't really 'need' a sequel as much as Shogun.

Debut trailers are rarely with any gameplay footage. Their purpose, in most cases is to introduce the game and its main concepts. Smile

Yes to that! Smile

IMO shogun and rome were the best in the series, just hope they dont screw this up, like the bugged empire total war.

I dont really like the Interface.
Might have to create something myself, once again. Or just wait for a mod to edit it in a way I like.

But else it looks quite nice. Just hope they fix the not so mini minimap from NTW.

Looks fantastic, thank you!

And yeah, about the art, it has always been influenced from the time period and cultures they are portraying in the games. Smile

Looks like they're holding a locked (private) preview of the game at Sega's E3 booth?
Anyway, here's the E3 fact sheet

Quote:

Shogun 2 features (count ‘em) thirty unit types, less than ten percent of the number included in the studio’s previous title, Napoleon: Total War. Brigden explains: the Creative Assembly wish to “drill down” to an essential “rock, paper, scissors” mechanic.

They believe this will ensure new players aren’t overwhelmed by the array of options. Moreover, many players were confused or disinterested in the nuanced differences between infantry types in Napoleon.

What the fuck............... could be the first TW game i dont buy

I like that, Shogun also had a few unit types, I consider this a "back to the basics" approach : Battles.

No more weak mob clashes and ridiculous retreats, please. After King Arthur, I'm craving for even more epic motherfucking bloodbaths.

3 units per faction is definitely a win.. right

archer samurai catapults.. gogo?

obviously it wont be that way.. it will be 9 "unique "clans, all having same units.. and maybe one unique per clan.. why does every mod focuses on adding new units?

and you call it back to basics? how is having exactly same units as basic

Honestly, I'm all for it. Watched an interview, can't remember where, in which the dev raised a good argument: what's the point in having a gazzilion units, where the differences are miniscule, if at all different? Sure it was historicaly accurate in a grand scale European war, but not at all neccessary in feudal Japan.

I would much rather have units that have distinct strengths and weaknesses, rather than a million types of infantry, where the difference in stats only differ in a 10% range.

Still, 30 units are quite a nice number to go around. Enough to give generic untis for all the factions, and still have left over to distribute some unique ones.

For those who want more units, I'm sure there will be mods just for that.

did you actually play vanilla medieval, vs medieval mods for example.. like stainless steel.. where that 350+ or what unit limit, have been reached years ago.. and is biggest cockblock ce could ever make to moding..

it doesnt matter if stat difference is +2 -1 +3 -2 its different and unique. .

30 unit limit, 9 factions , thats say 9 unique units, then its merchant, spy , religions ( if thats in game ) diplomat, hero, maybe couple of hero types, swordman, archer , etc, and in the end you have 15~at best for units. , 3 arches, 3 militias, 3-5 catapults , another 2-3 siege units, what about cavalry, melee units, samurai, and such
30 might sound decent , but its not ;/

This. Plus is more realistic. In that period you had the same unit types in almost every clan, the only thing that changed was color and flag.

Very nice screens indeed, guess ill buy this one Smile

How is it a good thing that they remove all unique units because of feeble-minded idiots? They even said they're dumbing it down. Nothing to do with the game being more realistic.

Also, rock paper scissors system is boring.

Looking at how after sales of units have been a big success for them I'd be declined to say it might be on purpose they chose to include limited amount of units on release?? DLC anyone? lots of it with new units like they are doing with Napoleon now!!

Just a thought...
