The game is great, unfortunatly theres not a lot of players...like right now its 12:30pm east and theres 39 servers up but only 5 got players in it for a total of 88 people playing the game....but it still early..maybe around 8pm east there will be more players

ok, thx.

I think I'll buy it since it's like $20 now...

BTW, loading time when restarting at a checkpoint is loooong and it doesn't even access the harddrive, weird....I'm off searching for answers.

EDIT: Ok, it WAS v-sync insane! now loading times are like 1/4 of what they were with v-sync on. Confused

Wow, what a terrific game this is, no more Rambo style killing. You really need to understand your men, give them order but also think before rushing them into taking cover close to the enemy, especially if there is a machinegun in the area.
I recommend everyone taking their time playing this game. Study the environment map first before you engage the germans. Search for good places to flank, and where to place your men. If done right you can do some really cool tactical moves.
The A.I is pretty sweet also. I fired at a german soldier standing in a building, he swiftly ran to take cover, as he was outgunned. Little did I know though that the little bastard actually went around the house and attached me from behind, he almost got me. Very sweet indeed!
Graphics are pretty average though, too bad the devs didnt take time to pick a better game engine, imagine this game using source.
But the graphics aside, this is the greatest ww2 shooter ever, and all future games in this genre should try and adopt ideas from it. This is lightyears ahead of MoH and CoD.
Perhaps we'll see a sequal with a better engine...

No kidding. Another annoying thing is your character somehow managed to graduate from basic training and be a totally lousy shot. In level after level, I draw good beads on the enemy down the sight and appear to miss them entirely. And you can't seem to shoot enemies from a very long distance with a rifle like you could in COD...which seems ridiculous. The game emphasizes using squad tactics over your own character's skill in shooting the enemy apparently. But c'mon...at least have the 1st person character be able to fucking shoot straight LOL.

Yea, that annoyed me too. I can see the aim being that piss poor on Authentic mode, but not when you're just playing Normal.

*yawn*

I've been playing it some more and essentially I've found it's a game of walls. You walk forward, the Germans appear in a fortified position (read: practially invincible position) - and any attempts to walk forward beyond this without them being surpressed will result in your AI soldiers dying without fail - especially if it's an MG. In real life you could of course use tactics to avoid that but nevertheless it's a good thing - even if in the game represented by an unforgiving linear model which is always TRUE.

okay so you've encountered your first wall. Now you surpress that wall by positioning your AI troops somewhere behind cover and giving them the command to fire upon the enemy. Sometimes I had problems with this and them just standing around saying "no can do sir.. I can't hit shit from here" - well sure you can't - but maybe if you move a fucking meter forward you can! Smile

Not that problematic, but annoying, especially when your repositioning of them ends up with the one of the ones on the end of the formation getting stuck out in the open. arggh.

anyway - surpress the enemy.

Now - open the situational awareness camera - look for the route to flank their position (there is always one - the levels are designed in such an obviously linear manner that I was surprised they didn't just signpost it) and send your assault team, or yourself if early on, down that path to success.

Naturally nobody told the Germans about flanking, as they seem to have been instructed to merely form 'walls' of fire which are isolated and prone to collapse. This helps the allies as it means an A to B to C path to victory.

Okay, so now they are surpressed you come up behind or to the side of them, surprise the little buggers and shoot the shit out of them. You'll have to hand your life to lady luck in this case as aiming is about as pure as Hitler. Having difficult aiming is a good thing, but having unnecessarily and uncomprehensibly bad aiming and saying it's realistic is just an excuse. There is no logic to the amount of shots that go astray and do no damage.

Especially in the case of crouched, cowering/covered enemy troops - the surrounding apparatus gives them a new lease of life and shields them from 99% of all troubles thrown their way. This isn't realistic. But I suppose the game would be eternally easier if we were able to aim properly and shoot into cover properly.

Anyway - that aside, you've just crushed the first wall you encountered. Now lets plant a satchel charge or some other mundane task and get on with going for the next wall. rinse and repeat.

It's an alright game. I found the character development that was touted as being first class is actually shit. The whole banter between the squad is cheap and amaturish, and I never connected once with the characters unlike say how I did in something like Mafia.

The sound engine is mightly basic - I had sounds appearing in my left speaker when the guy was on my right.

This never happened in COD or MOH where the sound was surround. I haven't tested BIA on my 5.1 speaker system as I haven't gotten around to hooking it up - but on headphones/stero it's very poor. Atmosphere is lacking as well and it just lacks that professional Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan quality COD and MOH oozed.

You don't need to know about the graphics, they aren't very good and scream out quite loudly for all to hear 'CONSOLE PORT'. I think at times it can look really nice, and I've said that it fits the muddyish setting of WWII. So it's not distracting at the least.

AI seems poor from my estimation. As I said there is no counter-tactics to flush you out or oust you from your advantagous positions. They just sit there waiting to be killed the majority of the time. Very little activity. And the AI for your team mates can be a bit sloppy too - walking into satchel charges you've just laid for example, or walking straight out into the path of an MG in order to stay in formation. Cover is not their strong point it seems - only the Germans.

Gameplay wise the whole thing is a nice idea packaged well enough. It's just not fresh, it's not exciting and it's not really that great either.

I fully agree with Ispep... the game is getting boring with this flanking tactic. It's very similar to Full Spectrum Warrior in this. Thank the groups that we have warez and I did not buy the game because of all the hype it got.

Meh, its ok. You can tell the graphics are toned down a little, they could have been better. The sound is shit. You can manually enable EAX and 3d positional effects in the config. file, but it is buggy, so either way, the games audio is crap. And im sorry, but the accuracy of your fire sucks major ass. Don't say that - Well in combat your accuracy would suck to! No. If the iron sights are positioned properly and the person is 10-20 feet away, there is no way that will miss. Yet for some reason it does.

What I have actually noticed and partially tested is the fact that there seems to be a D&D style roll system for hits. When the enemies are in cover, they are near impossible to hit regardless of where you aim your gun, when they have some cover your chances are better, and when they have no cover it seems that all your shots will hit provided they are aimed correctly.

I'm also dissapointed with the flanking. You flank around the enemies, and they dont turn around and 'notice' you till you start shooting at them. Not to mention there is always a magical way to flank them.

Overall its an OK game, but I really did like MOHPA better. It had better graphics, more action (of course), and more memorable moments.

ispep u do realise when they say i cant shoot from here you're supposed to privde covering fire, if you just spray in the direction the squad can move into position, if you're so stupid as to not figure that out then u dont deserve a game like this. My aiming is near perfect when i flank an enemy, its your own fault if you cant aim for shit, its really not that hard. the sound is perfect on here and you went against everything i said was wrong about COD. The AI does counter attack, take your men back and make them not fire, u'll see the enemy advance on you. The character development is ok but not great. there is little involvment in FPS games between characters though.

I tried enabling the 3d sound in the bia.ini.
I also tried to install direct3d sound control panel ala Deus Ex 2 style, which allows to enable true 5.1 sound in that game.
Neither worked for me.
So,
I don't know how you can say that it's buggy. It simply doesn't work.

What exactly did you do?

The config trick worked for me, enable EAX and 3Dsound in default.ini and I think bia.ini - it doesn't alter the overal opinion regarding sound but it does fix the unrealistic positioning of effects.

That's not true at all, I've tried that and ended up surpressing an enemy all by myself for about 30 seconds waiting for something to happen. They just sit in their positions waiting for me to give them new orders.

Give them a move command into the OPEN GROUND WHERE TWO MACHINE GUN NESTS HAVE A FIRING ARC UPON THEM HOWEVER AND THEY WILL GLADLY WALK NONCHALANTLY TO THEIR DEATHS.

I'm not stupid I assure you Wink

Quote:

I never said it was difficult in the sense of it being a skilled technique. It isn't. My point was that the gun is ineffective to an unrealistic and most important; illogical degree.

Quote:

No, it doesn't - what you are witnessing is scripted sequences specific to that level. Tanks move yes, but only to get a firing solution on your units.

I've sat for a long time just doing nothing and the enemy does nothing - and I can attest to this as a guarantee as I had to go answer the phone. Instead of pausing I left the game running because the image moves like a screensaver. Why not I thought?

Why not indeed....

Quote:

Development is non-existent really. I'm not bothered so much that it was touted as a feature and good aspect of the game. I've yet to see it materialise.

It never occured to me to change the default.ini, but apparently, you need to change that too, in addition to bia.ini.
3D sound now works!
And are you kidding? 5.1 positional sound is HUGE. I don't know how we've been gaming without it in previous years.

something similar happened to me.

i was shooting at a guy taking cover behind two barrels from a corner of a house. it went silent and i thought i got him. but i didnt wanna take any chances, so i pulled out the situation view to see if he was still alive. then i saw that he actually stood right behind me just on his way to hit me with his rifle but. the damn soldier had ran into an opening in the house while i took cover and actually ran around it so he could take me out from behind. lol crazy. when i returned to the game i died.

another time i sneaked up behind some bushes to take out a mortar team. i threw a grenade at them. perfect throw. german panic shouts followed. and then, in a nice bow came the grenade flying back towards me. bam!

small stuff like that is one of the things i love about this game.

i dont understand the complaints about the aiming and accuracy either. i just wait for the germans to pop their heads up from beneath the cover and shoot them down with my rifle. i usually hit. not always an instant kill, but eventually. when i snipe its always direct death. Wink

Uh well I can guarantee that they can hit targets that are fairly close with a high degree of accuracy. Or you don't graduate. But this is a game, not reality...in any case, I think the inaccuracy of the weapons really detracts from the overall game experience, not to mention being more than a little frustrating.

Did you notice that the fuse on the grenade magically got doubled when they grabbed it? Smile that's another thing that irritates me, when you throw a grenade at someone it lands and about 1 second later it explodes, but when they grab it and then throws it back it doesn't explode after that 1 second

I think that the lack of accuracy is a way to compensate for the amount of damage you sustain AND the fact that they want to prevent rushing (ie. Rambo-tactics).

You can still hit pretty well in a crouching position with a rifle, running and gunning though is more of a lottery.

As for lack of AI on the germans, I'd say this game is on level with most other games, that they flank, and behave realistically though, is bollocks. I'm currently playing on authentic, and I don't think the AI is any better than on the other levels, you're just more likely to die from one shot, and the enemies seem to be twice as many.

Yes, yes I'm back.
