August 2009:

Quote:
There are no current plans to make Elder Scrolls V, said Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard.

Speaking at id Software’s QuakeCon 2009 last week, the game director said, “We are working on our next big game, but we are not talking about it.”

The follow-up to 2006’s blockbuster role-playing game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion isn’t coming anytime soon

Somewhat different preview for a change - seems like a lot of Van Buren stuff made it into NV, should be fun to spot these when playing.

I really respect Obsidian for all their work throughout the years (even if most of their releases was bugged as hell) so I think this will be better than FO3, If that shitty engine by Bethesda has finally been bugfixed...

Not a graphics whore, but damn! for an upcoming game this looks really ugly (like FO3 I know).

The mods will fix it, as usual, lazy ass designers.

I hope so, because I have never been able to run FO3 without constant slowdowns, and I have tried everything imaginable except for reinstalling Windows, which I won't do for one game.
Earlier this week, I gave the game another spin, but I still have that issue no matter what I do so I have given up on FO3.

Ps. I have actually completed FO3 vanilla, I had to Alt-tab constantly in order to get 10 minutes of gameplay without slowdowns but I completed it. Smile
But I would really like to replay it, so I can find all the locations (I love to go explore on my own in FO3) and complete all the quests, but with this bug I don't think it's worth the time.

It's not like Obsidian had enough time to remake all the art assets (if they had done that the total dev. time would've increased considerably, and Bethesda wants New Vegas out quickly), so they used the existing ones from FO3 and made new ones only where they needed; the Vegas glitz etc.

Obsidian being limited by Bethesda's tech is probably a good thing, hopefully this'll be one of their first polished games.

And even if not, at least the fantastic mod support pretty much guarantees that any issues will be eventually fixed. Razz

Oh, and:

Quote:
Senior Producer Jason Bergman has said in an interview with Destructoid that they are working on FNV DLC.

He did not say what DLC is being made, but said they are more focused on "getting the game out of the door first".

The DLC will come out shortly after release.

Game ends when the main quest is completed:

Quote:
We tell the full story of every one of your companions through the end of their lives, and it's weird to do all that and then jump back and say, "Okay! Now you can keep going again." So we end the game, and if you want to do other quests, then you go back to that save game before the end sequence.

So I can't go back to the big city and make a porno of my adventure this time eh?
(Reference to Fallout 2 before the 1.1 update removed the free-roam aspect after the ending, much similar to the above description, plus you could buy a hint-book and use it in a few places from a shady dealer and access a secret terminal.)

They're as dumb as Bethesda. Same story with FO3.. Mods will fix it then they'll release DLC that fixes it on consoles because they'll whine.

Wasn't the freeroam in the 1.02d final patch tho?

Could be, I replayed F2 a while ago with some mods and that engine update and unofficial patch (Timeslips work and the Restoration mod.) but never reached the ending, before that it's been years since I last played the game so I could be remembering it incorrectly.

I'd much rather have an ending where the settlements in the ending really change based on what the player has done rather than have an unending game. Just keep a seperate save before the end-game and return to that if you want to fart around in the wasteland forever.
Or even better, start up a new and different character and see how you can affect things in a different way. Having an ending didn't make games like Fallout 1 and Arcanum weaker roleplaying games, I'd argue it made them better.
