Because it's advertised as a standalone addon? Like GTA:LCS.

Doesn't come across like that to me.

Why's that? Because it has the same engine and shares some of the art assets? Completely new world, quests, characters, items etc. aren't enough to qualify it as a sequel? Guess Fallout 2 was just an addon to Fallout 1 too. lol wut

Not in the case of L4D2, it seems.

Can't really understand all the bitching about the graphics/engine. Probably because I'm currently playing HL1 + mods for around 3 weeks now.
But seriously, it doesn't look that bad. They could, however, work to improve some of the animations from Fallout 3.

The graphics aren't much better than Oblivion, tbh.

They could certainly do with some polishing, but eh, we'll get mods for that.

I wouldn't directly compare the two; whereas L4D is just a pure shooter, New Vegas has a lot of other content besides the areas; dialogue, quests and such.

This just look pure crap, booth gameplay and gfx-wise.

Wasn't this supposed to be more like the old fallout? I thought that was the whole hype back when it was announced. It looks just as crappy if not more crappy than F3...

Just another way to milk some more, hinting to the old fans once again.

Fuck you beth, fuck you very much Smile

If you're disappointed because YOU thought this game was going to go back to it's "roots" (isometric gameplay - yea right), then that is your fault. I do not know of any gaming site that even came close to suggesting that New Vegas would look or play as such.

To me, Fallout: New Vegas is to Fallout 3 what GTA:SA and GTA:VC are to GTA3.

Same limitations due to the graphics engine, same overall experience, different story, a few different mechanics, etc.

I would have loved to hear more about the diagloue tree with your companions since he stated that they have "big and deep conversations",but of course the other guy wanted to talk about guns instead...

Yeah, he talked about the player being able to use Boxing gloves and other non lethal weapons and ammo. sounds nice enough, but don't expect the game to be very different just because you choose to complete the game without killing anybody, I'll bet that when you "knock em out" you will be able to loot the bodies just like if you killed them.

EDIT: If you want to experience a truly alternate way of playing an rpg without a lot of violence, you have to try Plancescape: Torment. I remember advancing a lot of levels without being in combat and instead focusing on "Diplomatic" solutions to quests, and if that wasn't enough I was able to avoid a lot of combat even with a dumb Fighter character I made, while at the same time I always had the option of fighting through most stuff.

He said this:

"You can have a non violent play through and if people wanna do it sort of halfway we even offer things like boxing gloves and beanbag 12 gauge shotgun shells so you can knock people out instead of killing them. "

Guess he was talking about stealth..

And yeah I played PS:T back when it was released but I never replayed it since then, guess I should do that soon.

It seems that Obsidian has already left it's trademark on Fallout NEW Vegas:

Fallout: New Vegas is due out October 19, and I hope Obsidian has the chance to put a bit more polish on it before shipping it out. The portion of the game I played frequently had issues with maintaining a stable framerate, and the AI quite often had problems quickly finding the best path while moving.

They're just considerate and leaving something to do for the unofficial patch modders. Razz

Marcus is in it btw., voiced by Michael Dorn too! The model is great, even though his scars seems to have smoothed out as he got older.

Note the sign says Jacobstown, if you played Fallout 2 you'd know that Jacob is the name of the Brotherhood of Steel Paladin that Marcus encountered after the downfall of The Master in Fallout 1, they fought for hours until finally they both started laughing at the futility of it. So they became friends and started wandering the wastes until they founded the town Brokenhills where Mutants, humans and ghouls lived side by side.
This kinda stuff really makes me hopeful, as it shows that Obsidian knows and remembers the lore they created in Black Isle, it's worth noting that Chris Avellone - the lead designer of New Vegas also wrote the Fallout Bible.

A new Fallout game in which the world (apparently and hopefully) feels like Fallout because people actually know what it's about?
Damn you videogame industry! Getting my hopes up in all directions these daaaays!

You. Go now and play Fallout 1 and 2. See what it's about. See how it should be. Then come back. And if you think Fallout 3 is superior to 1 & 2 burn in hell Twisted Evil

I just want good enough story to keep me playing. The premise of New vegas is definetely more interesting than F3, which was a bit of a harlequin story, all this crap about looking for my father... Srlsy, who gives a fuck about him, and the first quest hub was so bland, annoying and uninteresting I just didn't have enough motivation to keep playing. The character animation taken from late 1990s also didn't help Smile
Unfortunetely it seems Obsi didn't do much to improve the technical part of F3, so I'm only counting on good enough story and more fascinating characters than those in F3.

It seems Bethesda might be thinking about using Tech 5 as they'll only allow others to license the engine if it's published by them/Zenimax.

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/65113

(Then again it's better than that Gamebryo hybrid they've used.)

They've also acquired Arkane Studios (Arx Fatalis. EDIT: Dark Messiah as well.)
http://worthplaying.com/article/2010/8/12/news/76173/

As for Vegas it still seems promising, bugs and issues are sort of expected and those problems were in Fallout 3 as well though Obsidian has a rather long history of technical problems from rushed titles like Kotor 2 (Part Lucasarts problem apparently.) to NWN2 (Improved via expansions and a lot of patches.) Alpha Protocol (Patch status is uncertain.) and they still take on a lot like this project and Dungeon Siege 3 and they're not that large a studio are they?
(Four large projects for a single studio, Ubisoft might pull it off due to their side studios and large staff - and they're trying to actually - http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/65049 - but a smaller dev team like this is a bit problematic with so many projects.)
