I remember having a discussion about consoles vs pc's with a guy on uni. I don't remember which game it was but it was one of those that planned on mixing console and pc gamers on the same server. I told him it wouldn't work because the pc-gamers would utterly destroy the console-gamers without even breaking a sweat. He adamantly disagreed with me. Nuts.

Did anyone notice that, aside from cover system, developers also adjusted FPS games to consoles by removing jump in some games?
This isn't cover related, but also falls into the same category like cover system explained in the first post.

I like the cover system in RDR, you can still get hit while in cover.

Like I said in my OP, there are games, where it is done right, as a potential additional play style, but in the most popular (and thus trend generating) cover shooters, cover is forced upon a man to the exclusion of other play styles.
It's very irritating.

There's nothing wrong with a cover system if it's implemented correctly. As if leaning like a moron and strafing like a retard was any good. Old games didn't need any cover systems because the enemy practically came at you so you could shoot them in the face. If a game has good AI, a properly implemented cover system could be excellent. The system is not flawed, how it's used is. Most devs keep it as simple as possible.

i think it was best implemented in.. was it igi2?
when crouched, you could approach a wall and hit the lean key and move your mouse with precision to move your head in relation to your feet
so you could peek around corners or above barrels or whatnot in a realistic and smooth fashion
that's how i would want it in every game
there's really no excuse for third person in pc games if that was implemented

Cover systems rock and actually reflect world world tactics.
What would you guys rather have:
A: artificial unrealistic game
B: a game that reflects the real world as much as possible?
Answers on a postcard please.

Hidden answer C;
Not a dumbed down console piece of shit that is overly reliant on "god vision" cheap tricks like the current implementation of a cover system, where crouching BEHIND a wall automatically gives you 360º vision. Or how about hidden answer D;
LEAVE SHIT WELL ENOUGH ALONE. There were never any complaints about "peeking" round corners in the first Deus Ex, nor were there any complaints about the lack of stealth or strategy ... so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, we all play games, because we want to live the same reality we do in our lives. Logical, I would think.
Read the OP again please, it's addressed there.

According to the real tactics, crouching behind a wall would give you the vision of your team, not the enemies

Realistic, turdalistic... Why can't people just enjoy the game? You want realism? Join the effin' army, for God's sake...
