I played a little and as far as I could tell xbows suck just as much as in the original. There really was no point NOT to pick the normal bow - tho I kept some throwing axes just for lulz since they were so fun to do headshots with. Very Happy

Especially when you get hit by one and you keep walking around with an axe sticking out of your head. Very Happy

There are many reasons to pick a crossbow over a bow. First, damage depends on the quality of the crossbow, no need to put any skillpoints into it. Second, they are always accurate. Third, their shots don't arc nearly as much, making long range shots easier.

Yeah to be fair I invested some points into the bow skill - if you mostly focus on the melee weapons, then xbow is probably the better choice. With at least decent points in it, I'd still say that the bow is superior simply because of the refire rate. Plus it's fun when you can manage those 10+ difficulty shots.

The crossbow is definately better if you're going for a heavy infantry approach, with plate armor and shit. It's also more effective against enemy heavy infantry, as it can pierce more armor. Also, it can pierce through shields completely, though I've never had that happen.

I have a very annoying bug where i get a message every 10 to 15 secondes, which i have to click to remove.
Message changes after fighting or enter a conversation and is blank after restarting game.

If you're skilled enough with the bow, it's superior reloading speed surpasses all of the crossbow's advantages. However, the latter is a good secondary weapon if you're putting your skillpoints elsewhere.

By the way, does anyone know how to mod the game so that lesser parties don't flee from you on the world map? Alternatively, is it possible to change the bonus the Pathfinding skill provides?

Enemies on horseback, like desert bandits or those in Khergit territory are good for training and looting, but unless you've an all-cavalry force, it's impossible to catch them. So you're left with either shitty looters or the powerful lord parties. No middle ground.

Or Sea Raiders. They give pretty good loot, but can be hard to defeat at lower levels. they are around the Vaegir coasts.

Yeah, the Sea Raiders are definately the step after looters/bandits.

This sounds more doable - at least the morale/leadership values were easily found in one of the ini files, maybe look around a bit?

I doubt it's doable, or at least easily doable, until we get the module system.

I read modding the Pathfinding skill was "wonky" back in vanilla M&B, but don't know exactly what they meant by that.

Yeah, made most of those changes myself. My module was from version 0.890 or so though, so this'll be a nice replacement.

I just had the quest to "rescue or ransom a lord" but in the end I had to break him out because there was absolutely no way to pay the ransom O.o
I assume you pay the ransom the lord in who's castle the lord is imprisoned but there was no option to pay any ransom. Bug or am I not seeing something?

Maybe you pay the ransom to the king?

Its just proof that, like the old days of gaming. It doesn't take fancy ass graphics or bells and whistles, just plain fun factor that makes or breaks a game.that's why people are addicted to it.You don't find gems like this much anymore but when they come out its a great thing.Smile

Indeed. This game looks terrible, sounds terribe, it's buggy, the mechanics aren't even that great.

But I've just spent the whole day playing it. Fucking love it.

I'll just ask again. Has anyone managed to solve the "rescue or ransom a lord" quest by actually paying a ransom?
I tried talking to the Lord who's castle the prisoner is in, no option.
Tried talking to their king, no option. Who the fuck do I have to talk to to get them to accept my ransom? O.o

Nope, only things that douchebag can do for you is get bribed to let you in (which afaik serves no purpose since the imprisoned only say 'yeah, get me out of here but you need the key for the chains') and to get beat up so you can grab the key.
But seeing as I can't call lords out of their castle for a meeting anymore (I can only go into the lords hall and talk to them there) and that my character is always naked when I enter any kind of scene in a city I believe my game decided to totally bug out on my Very Happy
I'll start a new one and check on that.
