Ok a couple of things, I cant get anything with subs, because the wife is dyslexic, and while she can keep up with subtitles, she finds herself concentrating on the subs and not the movie.
Right, both my wife and I love horror and ghost stories, so I have spend the morning downloading some that have been listed on "Top Horror (and Top Ghost) Movies" lists.
So anything blatently obvious I may have missed, I suspect I will have seen a lot of them because I do a Horror / Ghost / Slasher download spree every now and again, but it never hurts to ask.
Cheers

Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!
Seen the bottom three (and Alien), are the top two dubbed or subbed ?
If it were me I would watch the subbed version, but the wife cant, imdb lists them both as italian.

Yea, both Cube Zero and Cube 2 delivers the same as the original IMO
Yes it's from the same director who made Severance and Creep which were both excellent horrorfilms
Great Glad Im not the only one who liked 1408, in fact I dont think I've seen the Directors Cut, do you know how different it is to the theatrical cut?
Its a couple of things in the film (IIRC) nowt to major, but the ending is different, I dont want to go into spoilers, but the DC has a better ending (IMO)
Spoliers if you really want to know (Copied and pasted frome elsewhere)
Am grabbing Triangle now, and then I am going to grab any others that peak my interest in this thread and fill up the xbox again with films
Spoiler:
* The Director's Cut contains a more tragic ending. Mike Enslin sets fire to 1408 but is not rescued by the fire department. Instead, the last we see of him is when he's lying on his back in the burning room and we hear the words of his daughter "everybody dies". The camera zooms in on the numbers on the outside door, just as they melt from the heat. The next scene is at Mike's funeral where his coffin is lowered into the ground right next to his daughter's; just as the visions 1408 prophesied. Lily is there, being consoled by Mike's agent. As the procession ends, Lily walks to her car and is met by Gerald Olin who is carrying a box. Gerald introduces himself and gives his condolences. He says the box contains some of Mike's belongings still left in the room. He offers it to Lily while also trying to explain, with a sense of hope, that Mike's death of was not in vain and that because of his actions no one else will *ever be able to stay in room 1408. Lily, in too much grief to listen, cuts him off and refuses to accept the box. Gerald returns to his car and opens the box, which contains the nightgown that was sent through the fax machine as well and the burned tape recorder. Gerald plays it and hears the same dialog between Mike and his daughter heard at the end of the theatrical release. As he listens, he sees a young girl in his rear-view mirror waving in his direction. He turns around to look at her and catches a brief vision of Mike Enslin in his back seat, hideously burned. Gerald jumps but the vision quickly disappears. He looks back at the girl who has found her dad that was looking for her. Gerald catches his breath, starting his car and driving off. The final scene goes back to room 1408. We see a specter Mike Enslin staring out the window. The last shot is of him finishing his cigarette and walking towards the door just as he vanishes.

foreign horror movies piss all over the american ones.fact.
Depends, but as a whole yeah the foreign film industry (especially horror) has been fantastic in the past few years (starting with the asian stuff from over a decade ago), but a few things have come out of America that are decent, the trouble is America seems to think gore = scary, where as other places will use sound, and editing to make something scary, and its shot in a different way some of the time, so its a different style.
I ahve never been a fan of the overuse of gore in horror (thats not to say I dont enjoy a good gory film some of the time, hence the slasher films in my list), but true horror (IMO) is usually built using atmosphere and suspence, not how many decapitations can we fit inside 20 minutes.
I will be grabbing the subbed ones that peak my interest as I will watch them when I have the time, it was one of the reasons I posted this thread rather than continuing to google, so I have something to come back too when I am looking again.
