Still, as I've said multiple times, it's going to be a completely linear A-to-B story and I'm going to try and enjoy it as such. It's just a shame those with small attention spans seem to outnumber us now, and while we can expect more of this crap in the future; there is always emulation of the true classics! ^_^ |
I'll say it again, I don't get the hate that XII gets, I enjoyed it, flame as much as you like.
One thing I'd like to add is am I one of the few people who realize that every FF since 7 was different from it's predecessor?
You might call it "dumbed down" or streamlined but to met it's a sign of evolution. Granted, not a sign of _good_ evolution but I'd rather have differences in the games than really get 347234 times Pi the same game over and over again with little to no changes in gameplay.
I like to look at it that way: At least they're trying new things.

Final Fantasy has been linear for like ever. All they've done is strip out the world maps and any pretense to choice in the game. If the game is still fun and has interesting encounters like FFXII (which was the first FF to finally grow the fuck up) then I'm all over it. |
That's a very good point, Demon Souls was linear and yet an awesome game, so maybe the negative comments from Japan should be taken with a pinch of salt and lets keep our hopes for FF 13.

This.
If people are bitching and whining about "linearity" in a jRPG, then I recommend they should stick to PC-RPGs instead - like MMOs and other sprawling epics-that-never-end. jRPGs are about the story and the progression - and the linearity is good! ^_^ |
That was in THIS thread. Want some more?

Joy. So I guess we can expect more "streamlined" bullshit because developers are lazy. |
SAME THREAD.
Then were umpteen posts after that (including one from YOU) with people pissing in my face because I made an observation and, unlike the majority of posters on here, backed it with the EXACT article I was talking about.
A few days passes and lo and behold! Master Twofaced pretty much does a copy/pasta of my OWN argument, this time citing another source (White Knight Chronicles) as an example that sprawling RPGs + HD graphics can go together. So what... it's fine for you but not for me? No, fuck that bullshit. I every right to my own opinion as much as you have, and what I said wasn't even an opinion! It was an observation! I didn't lie or twist the truth, I linked to an article where SE themselves said it was too difficult to make the same exploration-rich RPGs that they've made in the past whilst using current generation graphics.
That is LAZINESS. It's entirely possible (proven by games like Lost Odyssey/Last Remnant/White Knight Chronicles) they just chose not to for the sake of moar bloom!11
So yeah, don't tell me to calm down after giving me shit over something you later turn around and parrot yourself. That just ain't cool.

You're all mixed up, you accused me of 'starting it', well you;re wrong and I want an apology, this is where you start ranting on about linearity in FFXIII:

Sabin what's up with you at the moment?
You're talking rubbish again, all good rpgs depend on story, it's at the very heart of what makes them a rpg.
Story, great combat mechanics, item design and npc interaction.
You sure you aren't looking back with rose coloured glasses on the games of our youth? |
Guess I must have misread that, hmm? Guess that quote doesn't exist.... damn, I guess I'm wrong. Master Twofaced was completely correct, he never once said anything to me and vigorously defended me when I said SE were just being lazy.

As for Sabin jumping in that's even sadder especially as I defended him during his meltdown. |
Awesome defence. Loved it! Pfft, I'm done. I can see I'm wasting my time because all I'm doing right now is just giving you people even more chances to attack me. I'll play the game, but that doesn't mean I have to agree or like the design decisions made, nor how they've affected the end product for the sake of appeasing the graphics whore CUNTS ruining gaming these days.

Well that makes two of then, because all respect I had for you vanished as soon as you made this post;

basically copy/pasting exactly what I had said before, only this time it was fine for you but somehow I was in the wrong when I said it, right? Least you're showing your true colours now.

Man you guys bumped this thread two pages on bickering and arguing. I woke up saw the two page bump from last night and thought for sure there was a release. The mods should create a gladiator forum where people who want to spam each other arguing over a forum can do so without impacting the casual forum readers.

I'm not apologising to Reklis though... dude, really? FFXII?

I dont get the 12 hate, I always felt 12 was the next logical evolution in the series and was a great game, in fact prolly my fav after 6.

The story in 12 wasnt as melodramatic and ridiculous as in 10, and thats exactly why I loved 12 and hated 10; imo it was the game that made me feel like the series was growing up.

Exactly. The removal of the world map, and the idea of tactics was something that I wasn't on board with, at first, but when I started playing it - sold. The story was just awesome, and come on, who didn't like Larsa with his uber-heal! The lil kid was awesome. Favorite fight was definitely against that bullshit dragon in the forest - forget exactly his name and the name of the map - but when I got there I thought "Oh what the shit!" If FFXIII is "more of the same, but streamlined" - I'm cool with that. I'd rather have a dedication to a vision done right, than Square trying to shoehorn certain gameplay tactics into a game just to appease traditionalists.

I hated XII.
Last good one was X, when it was Squaresoft.
If XIII turns out to be shite, I will just give the series a miss when 14 arrives
However forgetting the liner / non-liner argument, I will say XIII looks good, so I am just awaiting the 9th to pick up my pre-order
