About a week late but anyway I took a look at this patch and it has a unprotected EXE (That's not installed normally.) so I ripped it out of the archive.

That actually works? Why would they include the unprotected exe?

dude see previous page. copy protection was removed in update 1.1, so 1.2 is just continuing to have no protection.

Installing the game and using the auto update negates the need of a crack or serial. Great.

You mean the Ubisoft DRM? it's already functional as seen during the Settlers 7 beta, will be used March 4th or so again for Assassins Creed 2 and other confirmed titles include Silent Hunter 5 and the full version of Settlers 7.
(Unsure about the new Splinter Cell but probably there as well.)

They will drop it sooner or later when they realize they don't have a single voice in their favor.
They dropped Starforce when they realized everybody hated it, it could potentially broke people's hardware and cause system slowdowns, and it was also the crappiest rootkit ever (Sony surely is proud of the developers).
This one will suffer the same fate when Ubisoft gets his mailbox full of hate mail by those who don't have a 24/7 internet connection (like notebook people on the move), or an unstable connection (Use DSL with a line full of noise and you will see), and even those in Dial Up (Yes, there are people in Dial Up all around the world).
For example in Australia, where the prices for broadband are like $100 for 2mb and a 20gb limit per month. They will be wasting bandwidth to "call home" the whole freaking time, and it's there were a lot of people use Dial Up as well for obvious reasons...
Thing is, this shit will get cracked sooner or later, and who will then have the best gaming experience? Pirates, precisely those they are trying to fight against...
They will be able to play the game as it should be played (No permanent online connection, no ingame drops for losing connection with the server, etc).
Legit players will swear in Ubisoft's HQ general direction and pray to their ISPs...

The Starforce boycott was the thing that triggered the "bad port period" in Ubisoft. SCDA, Vegas 1, etc. This one will kill the Ubisoft ports once and for all.

1.1 removed Tages. Just install and patch your game to 1.2.

I'm Australian and stuck on Telstra hardware (DSl1 uber expensive, ADSL2 is cheaper).
$110 a month 8032/384 (so basically 800KB down and 30ish up), 120GB a month and a bunch of free quota sources.
In comparison on ADSL2 I could get ADSL2 speeds and a 200GB quota for $50 a month. It's really not that bad you just have to live in surburbia and not be restricted by Telstra's bullshit. Yes it's bad and there are some shocking DSL/Cable plans around but damn it's not that bad.

Has anyone tried the multiplayer if its working for them with Hamachi? Tried with my friend just a minute ago and it seems it can't find our servers, and yes we have a working connection and every single other game works.

haven't tried myself yet, but it could be that it doesn't search in the correct LAN ip range (i.e. of hamachi 5.x.x.x), but uses your 192.168.x.x range for example
since it looks likte there is no direct ip mode, just this lan lobby, it could be that you have to force it somehow to use the right range for scanning (similar to problems like with AoE3 LAN mode for example), maybe by adapter priority in windows
