Keep in mind that the GTS 250 has essentially been the same GPU that was released December of 2006!!

If you were tired of rebranding already - tough luck it would seem for the first half of 2010.

Considering the 5850 is same price and is better and the 275 is discontinued, ... "Die" is the better choice? Laughing

Okay am I reading this right? Isn't the ATI cards mentioned above better than Nvidia's answer?

NVIDIA drivers which don't let you use your overpriced-but-paid-anyway NVIDIA cards as dedicated CUDA/PhysX cards unless you have ANOTHER NVIDIA card in your system as main graphics chip?
I know you can, with some minor hacks - but that shouldn't be necessary. I paid for my card, and they don't get to block the way I use it. Bullshit that it's because it's an unsupported method - they don't block Intel's IGP's either.

And ATI's drivers are fine these days. Not as good as NVIDIA's, but certainly not as bad some nitwits like yourself try to make them look :E

Yeah, it's nonsense bullshit. Both the GTS250 and 9800GT get royally spanked by the 4870/4850, so they're just not comparable. The 5770 is basically the DX11 equivalent of a 4870 too, so yeah... nVidia fail again.

@SpykeZ

ATi price hike? Where? You can get a 4870 for less than £100 and a 4890 for £120. The 5850 is £200 and the 5870 is £300 (£300 for a card that is every bit the equal to the GTX295, yet £90 cheaper? Razz)

Oh by the way this nViDiA rebranding is totally lame - so my 8800GT is really a 7800GT?

Seriously who is going to buy a product that is labeled something that came out 1-3 years ago?

I certainly won't I've had enough of nViDiA bullying the market I think I really have Sad

Actually, no. Their rebranding stuff started with the 9-series because they just lost all talent. The 8800GT is a brand new, entirely new, card. Different core and specs to the 8800GTX and 8800GTS-320/640. The 9800GT, on the other hand, is a rebranded 8800GT. A GTS-250 is a rebranded 9800GTX.

That's confusing shit - a 9800GT is rebranded an 8800GT - which would make my 8800GT a ghost Confused

The 8800GT is not new and I think I spent close to $300 on this card too so

Not useful to look at NVIDIA's names anymore, you have to look at the chip they use Smile

G80: First 8-series cards; 8800 Ultra, GTX, GTS-320/640
G92: 8800 GT, 8800 GTS-512, 9800 GT, 9800 GTX(+), GTS-250
Note with the G92: this is a G80, but on a smaller die and with some very minor improvements. There's also a G92a and G92b; b is again smaller. Suffixes (GT, GTS, GTX) mean jackshit, as each of these chips overclocks like hell anyway Very Happy

And the blocking bit: If you've got an ATI card as your primary card and want to use an old 8/9 series for PhysX/CUDA (like me with my old 9800GTX), you have to use an old driver, fiddle with some settings and set up a work around to get it to work. Not because the driver can't do it, but because NVIDIA literally go "Oh hrm there's an ATI card as primary adapter..LETS DISABLE CUDA ROAR o/" in it Razz

@ Mortibus - I think my card is 2+ years old but I'm probably wrong and it's probably only maybe 18 months old maybe. So yeah I could be wrong about the cost of it aswell - but I seriously think I'm done with nViDiA they are only money hungry and they haven't done me any favors in the past like giving me a free upgrade like you got...

Shit those promotions weren't even heard of when I bought this thing!

@ pwerelds - lool that's funny shit - and my vid card runs hot as fuck even idle - I even sprayed it out and that seems to have lowered the temps maybe 2-5C but pft!

How hot is it? My 9800GTX runs at 35ish idle with 30% fan speed :E

Well, if you look at the cards failing, usually it's the higher end cards, because they are so complex. With GF 4 MX, you are really congratulating the GF 2 line. Laughing

not even two weeks after the 5850 came out the prices went up. I paid 268 with shipping when it came out. Now there 300 without shipping.
