If you were tired of rebranding already - tough luck it would seem for the first half of 2010. |

Considering the 5850 is same price and is better and the 275 is discontinued, ... "Die" is the better choice?

Okay am I reading this right? Isn't the ATI cards mentioned above better than Nvidia's answer?

Actually, no. Their rebranding stuff started with the 9-series because they just lost all talent. The 8800GT is a brand new, entirely new, card. Different core and specs to the 8800GTX and 8800GTS-320/640. The 9800GT, on the other hand, is a rebranded 8800GT. A GTS-250 is a rebranded 9800GTX.

Not useful to look at NVIDIA's names anymore, you have to look at the chip they use
G80: First 8-series cards; 8800 Ultra, GTX, GTS-320/640
G92: 8800 GT, 8800 GTS-512, 9800 GT, 9800 GTX(+), GTS-250
Note with the G92: this is a G80, but on a smaller die and with some very minor improvements. There's also a G92a and G92b; b is again smaller. Suffixes (GT, GTS, GTX) mean jackshit, as each of these chips overclocks like hell anyway
And the blocking bit: If you've got an ATI card as your primary card and want to use an old 8/9 series for PhysX/CUDA (like me with my old 9800GTX), you have to use an old driver, fiddle with some settings and set up a work around to get it to work. Not because the driver can't do it, but because NVIDIA literally go "Oh hrm there's an ATI card as primary adapter..LETS DISABLE CUDA ROAR o/" in it

How hot is it? My 9800GTX runs at 35ish idle with 30% fan speed :E

Well, if you look at the cards failing, usually it's the higher end cards, because they are so complex. With GF 4 MX, you are really congratulating the GF 2 line.

Cards had better be good.
GTX 280 will hold the fort untill march or later when i can take my pick of the bunch.
I hear preview samples are going out in January though.

ATi price hike? Where? You can get a 4870 for less than £100 and a 4890 for £120. The 5850 is £200 and the 5870 is £300 (£300 for a card that is every bit the equal to the GTX295, yet £90 cheaper? ) |
not even two weeks after the 5850 came out the prices went up. I paid 268 with shipping when it came out. Now there 300 without shipping.
