Here's the Ancient Elven set's stats:

That's pathetic to you? Comparing the centre piece with Wade's, it's only marginally weaker, and gives a bonus to dexterity. Not to mention it looks a helluva lot better, probably causes less fatigue and requires a lot less strength to be used (Wade's requirement is 30-something, I believe).

I'll admit the helm is mostly for show, but it's still pretty good.

As for the gloves, they're definitely the best medium ones in the game.

You sure were talking about same Wade's armour?

Yep, that's it. Fits my description despite I had forgotten the mild stamina boost (the stamina regeneration bonus is so insignificant it shouldn't even exist). Hardly worth the 'upgrade' from an Ancient Elven set.

The dragon scale was better spent on the massive armour, for Alistair, who truly needed all the protection he could get.

Patch 1.02 is on the servers. Not officially released yet though. http://files.bioware.com/dragonage/patch/1.02/DragonAge1.02.exe

Doesn't change much, some balance changes mostly. Haven't tested enough to know if the long loading times are still as bad.

This patch is not for the Steam distribution of the game. Sad

Post the changelog please. Did they fix the memory leak?

I didn't notice any memory leaks, but then again I have 4gb RAM. I only noticed the loading times getting bigger after about an hour of playing, probably due to the game's cache management.

Are you guys experiencing decreasing performance and increasing memory usage ?

The longer loading times are caused by the memory leaks.

would this patch boost my dagger dex/cunning rogue or nerf it ? I have this talent that replaces str with cunning

sofar i must say ive wicknessed very few bugs and only one CTD, impressive for a game with so many plots and twists.

before the patch you had +1dmg per cunning point (with Lethality)
now you have 0.5dmg per cunning point + 0.5dmg per dexterity point
if you're cunning and dex attributes are about the same (mine are both at ~40) i dont think you'll notice any difference; unless your dex is higher in which case you would notice a slightly increase in dmg
AFAIK?

Edit: btw does it work with any gcw miniimage?

http://dragonage.gulbsoft.org/doku.php/hotfix/dexterity_hotfix_101

"Short bow being useless.
Short bows now get full attribute bonus from Dexterity instead of shared from Strength. This makes them a natural choice for Dexterity focused character builds.
Base Armor Penetration for Shortbows has been increased by 1."

Weren't ? Seems I've missed something.

This hotfix wasn't official though, despite being made by a Bioware employee. It was a temporary fix that actually caused some problems with game balance, increasing difficulty of heavy archer fights beyond level chosen by the user. The only dexterity-related bug acknowledged by whole team was in relation to daggers, and it was corrected in the patch.

You're a fool Wink

If you're that paranoid load it up in a disassembler or do a binary compare to the original. The patched .exe uses the Skidrow method of NOP'ing the first conditional jump to dvd check function, then switches some op with an XOR and replaces the JZ with a regular JMP to the next function so it does a short jump regardless of what the instruction before returns.

Update fixes daggers, not the fact that bows are from the "baroque" period of music.

Better archery mod (@ dragonagenexus.com) should be compatible with 1.02 soon. If you're going to play w/ leliana or with a bow character, the mod is a must. Without it archery is useless, including all of the abilities. It's sad when a mage can sit back with a staff and outdamage an archer just by basic attacks (autohit, etc.).

Plus making the game harder is good. Nightmare + powerful archery is actually tough. Made less so by cone of cold, but now the patch has nerfed that spell. Will be a fun game now.

Also I don't suggest using the dexfix by the random employee. It was good and all and made the game harder which was fine, but it also broke shale's crystals, even after an uninstall of the mod.

I had no problems playing as an archer, and I was never outdamaged by mage basic attacks. o_O

My mage outdamaged leliana - of course I had the arcane ability that increased damage, and a good staff.

But even a rudimentary mage would autohit whereas an archer (esp. from range with range unfixed) would often miss... so the overall damage = roughly the same, or even better depending on the mob.

Add in that any special hit would take so long to actually fire that pinning shot would often hit after the mob was on you, and various abilities don't stack (rapid shot doesn't make abilities fire faster) and some actually aren't WAD, and the archery isn't properly modded by dex... yeah, archery mod is needed. At least the lite version.

Would you really use leliana in place of a healer or morrigan or a melee rogue? Unless you just want the game to be harder, and that's fine.
