loot is based in some part due to the difficulty level you picked. if you play at easy, you'll end up with a lot of heal potions. play at nightmare and you won't get any.

here:

Reactive Potion Limit 20 12 8 0 Limit of potions after which the loot system will no longer prefer potions.
Reactive Potion Chance 1 0.75 0.5 0.25 Chance for the loot system to substitute other loot for potions if party limit not reached.

now that didn't turn out too well did it. Rolling Eyes take a look at the original source instead:

You can just walk past that "dragon" in the elven ruins, tis what I did. Took his treasure, carried on with the story. Came back a few levels later when I could actually tackle it.

I seem to have a very different opinion about the loot argument than both sides of the fence.

While I do not believe that you should get great loot from chests commonly I do believe that high level chests should contain or have a higher chance of containing good loot. The loot should also be factored in on where you are getting these items as well. A poor commoners house should not give equal or better loot to a house of a noble. Also when questing on certain quests it should have chests that give great items for example after slaying a dragon.

While I also believe that the dragon should not drop a single item (other than its scale of course) Why do games continue this illogical trend of non humanoids dropping human gear or money? This simply should not be. Humanoids should be the only types to drop such items and bosses naturally caring superior items as well as the chests that personally belonged to the boss in the area should contain better items but nothing that exceed what he/she uses in combat personally. Currency and items that one would want to keep safe should be more in chests than on hand as well when dealing with humanoids. But when to take into account of monster types such as dragons the loot they have should be scattered on the corpses of their victims or in storage such as chests (not put there by the dragon obviously so it pre-dates the dragons arrival to the area) Heres a quick example.

Your exploring the ancient ruins of the long forgotten order of the 12 magi lords.
You run into a ancient dragon whom served as a trained guard to the collected treasures of the magi lords. You slay it (and get nothing but experience from the battle)
proceed into the treasure room and collect the legendary staff of the Elven Goddess Ertha.

This is how is should work.

Now as far as the voice of the protagonist goes in this game I actually wish he/she was 100% mute other than perhaps screams and such. Why? #1 it forces people to read and that is a damn good thing. #2 What if you hated the voice that was given? Then your just fucked aren't you? #3 Its actually MORE role playing by having a mute character as you can make up a voice just how you like it in your own head and play such in your mind as you read the dialogue choices you picked . It's what I do.

I wonder why they put an option to choose which voice you'd like for the character, if he never says a word (besides the "right", "yes", etc responses). Perhaps time limitation?

Sounds like you never realized that Neverwinter Nights did the same thing. They let you select your characters voice but it was only used when you were committing actions.

Playing my rogue on nightmare is turning out to be pretty easy Surprised I've banned offensive spells and I only use Morrigan to heal and buff. Started out quite tough, but once I got some levels and tweaked my tactics I'm facerolling most fights. No cheesing with stealth or anything like that.

There was a link three pages back. Smile
http://social.bioware.com/game_patches.php

Quote:

fixed potential corruption of character statistics
fixed portrait appearance sliders when importing a character from the downloadable Character Creator
fixed import for preset face settings from the downloadable Character Creator
made Easy difficulty easier
slightly increased attack, defense, and damage scores for all party members at Normal difficulty

fixed video issues when running on a very wide screen display, including ATI Eyefinity displays
fixed an issue with Dragon Age and Windows Game Explorer
updated Visual C runtime libraries

The bolded entries are what the 1.01a patch fixed, others should be what the 1.01b patch fixes, not much related to the actual game though.

I finally completed the game. It is so epic i just wanna cry Smile

I have spent 77 hours 1 minutes and 15 seconds in the game Laughing (can anyone beat me with higher gametime ? Laughing )
I got so much used to my character and companions that i almost don't want the game to end Smile Hell i got so much into role playing my character (which i spent quite some 2 hours into the creator itself to look like me) that i'll redo the final mission just to get a different ending because there is something fishy and dark about my current one's name Laughing and i'm all about doing good.. (atleast this run..)

This is truly a game that pulls you in and makes you actually make decisions and care for what you do Smile
The atmosphere of the game is fantastic. Some of the ingame cut-scenes are worthy of a hollywood production. That combines with the gorgeous music makes for a thrilling combination. Also i took about 250 screen shots through my journeys.. most of them so epic and wallpaper- deserving Smile

The world has tons of lore (63 codex entries left - curses that i realized too late about the almighty 'tab' key Sad ), great amounts of quests, even quite some hidden ones.. Too bad i missed some quests just because they must be done before event X, or are just 1 time opportunities ( black vial in Denerim alley encounter..). Strange thing i did not got the all areas visited achievement.. really really strange.. i'm sure i've double-checked every possible location on the map & subareas..(post-coronation says 100% explored..)

Sooo this game is definitely GOTY. Can't wait for any new stuff related to the game.

I love this game Very Happy

Thanks man, been waiting to hear this one! Hope he covers the PC edition (lol, yeah right).

Can't wait to see what this announcement tomorrow is going to be. Hoping they'll say, "Sales have been spectacular, we're rolling in money -- as a 'thank you' we're giving out this brand new, epic DLC that will blow your mind for FREE!"

Hey, I can dream.

I enjoyed Yahtzee's review of Dragon Age, had a few laughs watching it. He needs to do Borderlands already (unless he already has and I somehow missed it).

based on your screen shot resolutions, you play at 1280x1024? try 2560x1600 at full screen for oozing, glorious wonder if you have a 30" lcd screen that is. Razz

yeah, i think the 'tab' option to highlight/list name of objects doesn't work very well. i use xpadder to 'toggle' it on and off using my xbox 360 controller on pc. if you keep it on, each time you exit a conversation, it glitches and causes some items not to be identified any longer. same goes with area transitions.

you have to 'toggle' it on and off again whenever these events occur to make it work again. i'm using it to help me collect everything in my 2nd playthrough. i missed a lot in my 1st playthrough because i didn't know about the 'tab' key either. Crying or Very sad
