Click on a enemy and the character will attack and keep attacking, press space to pause (Very useful on higher difficulties.) and give orders and manage the characters you have.
(Similar to NWN)
EDIT: It's realtime though and not turn based, unsure if the characters actually take turns (Semi-turn based, kinda like Fallout Tactics.) or just hit whenever they have the ability to with stuff like stamina regeneration and attack speed plus ability charge time.

I'm playing this on easy cos I like to play combat in real-time (I'm not adept at this whole tactical-RPG combat thing). The normal mode is way too hard for me.
The game is way too easy now though. I've arrived at redcliffe, does the game eventually get harder on easy mode? Feels like i'm just walkin thru without a challenge right now.
Well you still might want to give normal a try, other than pausing every once in a while in big fights (to choose some of the companions' special abilities and who to target), I've managed to keep it real(-time, lolpun ) most of the time.
I haven't really looked into the party member scripts or what you call them, but on default behavior they seem to be holding their special abilities/spells back somewhat.

Patched your game? seems "normal" was made easier.
I plan on playing my second game on nightmare as a rogue, should be an epic challenge.
As a mage on hard, once I programmed my tank and healer to do their jobs near perfectly, and I got all of my aoe's and CC, only a few boss fights are actually difficult.
:edit: I'd really recommend fiddling with the scripts, having the tank taunt off you at the right time, healer throwing heals exactly when needed, targets attacking you or the healer CC'd automatically really makes all the difference. Not to mention assist training.

Lol, now i know what's the problem with rogue damage- the damage of daggers depends not on str+dex, but on str only. It's a bug, they'll fix it, i guess.
No, we have no bears on the streets here in Russia.
Sorry I don't know what youre talking about radmez... I dont know anything about this style of combat... I just wanna do timed clicks, not micromanage units... so does the easy mode eventually get harder? I'm not having to use health potions right now

Why would it be a bug? All melee attack damage rely on STR primarily. DEX is for defense and attack rating, not damage AFAIK.

I'm talking about combat tactics, where you script your characters to perform certain abilities under certain conditions, this way you don't have to micro-manage during combat. Seems ideal for what you want.
Hm since i installed the 1.01 patch i got 100% cpu usage from dragon age
Anyway, i'm 34 hours into the game now, i've explored 60% of the world and progressed 27% o.O
I pretty much explore every possible way i find - In the mage tower fade area i triple checked every room for hidden stat points
Truly epic.. only one single complain.. (the same as my 2 previous posts)
This is the most unbalanced rpg ever.
The mages dominate everything. My mages instakill hordes of enemies.
In the same time one single enemy caster is sufficient to negate my warrior hero completely. Every single enemy mage has some entangling spell AND curse... crushing prison is my greatest bane ever.. especially if i'm surrounded by melee.. I just can't understand.. is this game made for mages only ?

DEX is for damage with piercing weapons, such as daggers and bows.
Where can I see how far I've progressed in the game?

you will not have 100% completion when you finish the game - thats impossible. things that count towards completion are all the different solutions to quests, finding all the random encounters, all the different endings, and i think also filling the codex affects it.
i am about 60% through on my second playthrough, and it is showing 52% completion. on my first play i wasnt trying to find EVERYTHING like i am right now and i finished it at under 40% i think. getting 100% is going to be HARD.

Mages are strong but my Alistair has about 5 stun skills and my 2handed main guy has at least 2 and usually its not a problem to kill them early in the fight. They are lvl 15.
Anyone tried patching the game to 1.01a using Skidrow's release?
I get an error when i start the game saying something about wrong settings =/
Tried reinstalling the game even without the DLCs, doesn't work...
Mages are truly powerfull here, but still, they are squishy and other classes manage quite well too. And since it's a party RPG anyway, it doesn't matter that much. I tried a rogue too, and between poisons, stealth and abilties he seems quite powerfull, to be honest. Can't say how it'll be later on though.
So I bought the CE installed, logged into my account, redeemed the codes and for the love of god, they're not showing in game.
that's what it looks like when I click on "registered promotional..." in the bioware social network. Is it supposed to look like that? Seems that bioware support isn't that fast, wrote an email yesterday already. Took a look at their FAQs didn't help at all.
Anybody got ideas?
Much appreciated.
any tips about rogue class ? i love that class but its hard to find some good stuff for it :/
Imo its hardest class at start. Just make sure you have stealth upgraded, then couple of points in ether poisons or traps (i prefer both), soon you'll have powerhouse. Scout where you enemies are, use stealth to lay down some traps and use potion bombs. They never know what hits them. Only problem is that you spent a lot on buying ingredients.
I think interesting tactic would also be going for powerhouse rogue. Abandoning cunning and that rogue skill that uses cunning instead of strength and then pumping up strength so you can be sneaking bastard that dual wields poisoned swords, lay traps and throws bombs all over the place. You'd have to stay away from most skills that use a lot of fatigue and cunning, but you'd gain access to heavier armours, swords and better crossbows because of high strength.
Play rogue/assassin on my main, on hard, first run. Honestly, what do you expect from a rogue, easy game?
On a more serious note, he destroys enemies, i just let alistair or sten taunt em, and my assassin DPS the shit out of them. I mean, talk about attack speed :O
heh then i think i should start over (or after that tower on begin) because i put many point in DEX and a bit in STR so i cant use better armors and skills i take the most from dual wield i like it but sometime(usually) easy to die...
"It's O'Neill, with two L's. There is another Colonel O'Neill with only one L, he has no sense of humor at all" - Jonathan "Jack" O'Neill
Wow, the ending really was a disappointment. I also blame BioWare for false advertising: I finished the game in 25 hrs blank, they promised 40 hrs in one playthrough for a "speed junkie". And I thought I was pretty thorough. BS ending.
