I also enjoy my warrior a lot, but you guys have to agree here, the shield is fucking useless... Sure, it protects very well against arrows, but everything else hits almost as hard with or without the shield, the active shield abilities help a LITTLE but hardly enough to be worthwhile compared to focusing on pure damage adding skills. I wish there was a way for me to respec (yes, I know, respecs are for loosers blablablabla), I'd go two handed instead, or at the very least not focus on shield abilities. And there's no way I'm redoing the whole warrior thing and replaying 7 hours with my warrior just to use two handed instead.

You're probably not using the shield skills properly. Some of them are really powerful. With the shield bash ability for example you can knock down almost any normal enemy.

The shield line is incredibly pathetic..
Actually the fact that i speced that takes quite some from the total game experience.. (the other thing is how my char face looks at some facial expressions) (I'm level 11 but to start all over again.. when i'm already so much into the game world.. it would be so sad)
Every other line has some aoe attacks.Aside theattack I'm yet too see the shield being useful for defense... Is there any blocking animations at all in this game ? It gives armor points.. but adds nothing to the defense score - funny how my party's assassin has way more defense despite having only leather with -1 stamina penalty while i struggle to not die with heavy chainmail and 24% penalty...
The shield attack line.. well it deals minimal damage and the stuns work giving you 2-3 extra attacks when they work.

When i saw how my mages hurl lightning storms.. i felt so puny struggling to bash some monster to death -> shield is so fail in this game it's not even funny Sad

Yeah, game suddenly got colours....pink? anyone? xD
Dual wielding is way to go ? I have sword+shield atm and I am at the tower checking what happened and I feel that 2 tanks (Alistar) is too much for 1 party...

I had no idea Claudia Black was in this game as Morrigan. The second I heard her the game became twice as interesting. The little convos that she and Alistair have are probably the best thing about the game. Without the humour it's just another fantasy RPG.

I agree, for the best party banter it's best to always have Alistair and Morrigan with you. Leliana and Morrigan have one banter that made me laugh really hard, too. Sten is good if you want someone constantly second guessing what you're doing Rolling Eyes

I want Shale! Sad

I'm using the shield line right now and I think it's pretty fun. But I'm not very far along. I think the shield is more about control than any kind of damage when it comes to close combat, and I don't get hit nearly as often with arrows as some of my companions do.

Knocking a dude on his ass hasn't gotten old for me yet, and stunning them with the shield pummel ability is pretty useful in certain situations.

But then everyone seems to hate the shield line, so I guess I'm missing out on more fun elsewhere. I dunno. I don 't really want to start over so I'm stuck with it until I finish the game.

Also, I think Alistair is hilarious but I don't like him as a fighter so much. I actually like the Dog companion (I make him use Charge against casters and archers, knocks them down almost every time and quickly takes them out of the fight for a bit) ... meh. I want to take everyone along so I don't miss any cool party banter. Guess that's why we have multiple Origin Stories to play through.

I started out with a sword and board warrior, found it pretty underwhelming just shield bashing everything. I completed Lothering, quite a few hours in, when I decided to reroll a mage - so much more fun! Playing on hard so I have to watch the friendly fire (much less of an irritation being the mage in control in this case, rather than the warrior trying to avoid it!!) but combat is a lot more satisfying.

By the way, I'm curious (pun intended), is it possible to pursue a same-sex relationship?

Well i'm trying to juggle between Moriggan and Leiliana but each time i advance with one of the chicks and then run to the second - she magically knows what i do with the two of them -and they both disagree of me having the both of them - there is a line in a dialogue with Morigan when the main hero suggests a threesome but she is quite chilly about it Laughing

I don't know, but if so I'm going to play the second time as a female so I can have some HOT HOT HOT lesbian fun.

Ok, the game is officially awesome Smile .

Bus for some reason, it keeps crashing after 20 minutes or so :S.

Hardware? Overheating? since it is after +/- 20 minutes

XP sp3, AMD X2 5600+, 8800 gt 512 ddr3, 2gb.

The game crashes even in low settings/resolutions and pretty standard gpu temperatures...so i don´t think it has anything to do with overheating. Found similar problems at official forums, I hope there will be a workaround or something soon...The worst part is that the game is a blast for what I´ve seen Sad .

I've suddenly developed random crashes, too -- when I click a transition point (like going inside an Inn or whatever), the game sometimes just CTDs. Wasn't doing that until today. I've been hitting F5 (quicksave) before using doors now.

My shield blocks fine, I can see my guy blocking. I certainly get hit less. Shield fighting skill is good for bigger foes, you'll dodge more and take damage less. The bash and pummel options are useful, 2-3 strikes can be enough when you're low on health. The two-hander character deals more damage, but he basically can't block or dodge anything. If you're low on health, you're pretty much screwed with a two-hander. I can stun or activate shield fighting to win some more time. Dual wielding is a bit useless for a warrior since you'll need to invest in DEX.
So, a warrior doesn't have much choice.
