The first Dragon Age: Origins review has arrived via PC Gamer magazine, which brands the BioWare game "RPG of the decade" in its 94% review.

This is the most enormously detailed game world I've experienced, its history stretching back thousands of years, its cultures vivid, beautiful and flawed, the battles enormous, the humour superb. Roleplaying games now have a great deal to live up to.
the reviewer apparently also mentions it took him 80 hours to play through once and it offers a lot of replayability due to multiple endings, origin stories, romances, decisions, etc.
I wont hold my breath.. I bet the its as immersionless as the usual Bioware game, i would be very extremely surprised if they have included NPC schedules yet (now almost ~20 years since Ultima7 introduced it..) Bioware hasnt really evolved since Baldur's Gate :/ (except for graphics). Character controll is always extremely limited too making their games very boring to explore (cant jump/climb or even swim). If they have fixed those things it could be awesome though

Somehow I missed none of those things you mentioned when playing Bioware games. Especially the BG series. But, If they include those things, I won't complain.

Almost the same for me, with the notable exception of character schedules. Those would really be nice and would add to the immersion.
I never miss climbing and swimming, party interaction usually replaces it perfectly. Also BG1 and KOTOR were two of the most immersive RPGs I've ever player. The Baldurs Gate city was amazing and KOTOR had superb locations.
The problem is quality in their other games jumps a lot. BG2 was still very good. In many ways better than its predecessor, but its world was not as connected. Throne of Bhaal was too short and felt rushed for the story it had. The rest wasn't as good, still immersion was always above average.
The only thing that I really think is bad for immersion is the way you control party members. In 2D it felt like you are playing your character and then like a general commanding others what to do. In 3D it just looks like you are magically teleporting from one character to the other and issuing orders.

yep climbing and swimming is more for FPS or a single player RPG like Gothic
personally i liked BG more than BG2, it had a better storyline
i pre-ordered the game and hope i will not be disappointed
however watching some of the trailers i have a little fear that this game has to much of a LotR theme in it

Huh? BlaneGape: Torment?
ehh it was me who wrote that btw
butt never mind
yeah the original Baldur's Gate had a better storyline
it was a fight between you and your party versus Sarevok and his evil friends
he was your half brother and also a Baal spawn
BG2 had much better graphics and so but i can't even remember the storyline
it had nice sceneries and exiting fights but as i said personally the original BG got me hooked so much more

I believe the exact opposite. BG1 had a good story, but I very much prefer the struggle between Gorion's Ward and Jon Irenicus. The story behind Irenicus and his sister and the way he was depicted was simply a masterpiece and some things that happened at the very beginning made it a very personal struggle too.
Irenicus is one of my personal all time favourites when it comes to bad guys. A really deep character, if you took time to actually understand his motives. And really, really evil. Had an incredibly good voice actor too, one of the best i've ever heard, even after all this years. A perfectly depicted cold, methodical sociopath, who also happened to be an arrogant (not without reason ) archmage.
"He who who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you..."

Same here, seems strange to me that its seem BG2 is more liked in general.
BGs story was not so "far out" as BG2. And it had more exploration in it.
Also BG was the first game, its like in movies, the followup is almost never as good or better than the first one.
Well reading this comic kinda made me interested in the shapeshifting in this game.
Offensive:
Spoiler:
I mean, what if instead of putting up with all the high end requirements, maintenance, and drama of that spider witch I just ask her to shapeshift this dude into her. That kinda works right?
No its not, when biologists examining millions of years of evolution suggest so-called 'homophobia', like racial phobias are in fact a very important weapon against 'species and tribal extinction.
Criminalizing reaction to these 'phobias' is a complete waste of time and just makes western society seem even more ideologically blinkered.
Left-wing liberalism has yet to wake up to the fact that you just can't go arbitarily passing down laws banning existing evolutionary frameworks at the drop of a hat without a serious backlash.
While homosexuality has been with us since mankind first appeared this is the first time the practice has been legitimized in modern times.
