Is it just me or the game runs like shit on the 5850 ??

It's the only game that gives me trouble, is it too much CPU depended??

@ 1920x1080 everything maxed + 2 aa = runs BAD

without AA and textures medium = still bad

textures maxed no frame buffer effects = still bad

What's going on here??

The cpu is a core 2 duo 6600 @ stock for now, but it runs Risen, Borderlands, etc FINE.

OH, AND NO 5.1 sound ?!??!? wtf???

Real quick question.....

For those that have played for a few hours...

Do you end up losing certain members of your party throughout the game due to the story?

Say, for example, you meet an archer in a town that wants to join you, and you accept... Then after an hour of giving them good gear/loot, they decide to run off WITH the gear/loot you've given them?

This type of gameplay RUINS these types of games for me. I find it frustrating to get a "skill point" and look throught their entire skill tree for half an hour and decide which path to go, only to find out that they were only going to join my party for one or two levels.

There are temporary party members, which you can dress up but can't skill. After they leave, they drop all their equipment into your inventory.

Then there are permanent ones which only "leave" you if you screw it up with them (through dialog options or opposing their morals with your actions)

I haven't played long enough, but I think it's much like Baldur's Gate where they can leave if they get angry/disapprove of what you're doing. Maybe you can get them back? I'm not sure. As long as you watch their love/hate meters on the character screen they should stick around.

Fuck. Well at least they drop their inventory. I'm assuming that they give no notice ahead of time that they will be temporary or permanant?

Or do they say something along the lines of "sure i'll join you for a little while" giving you a CLUE that they won't be temporary?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Try disabling vsync (you didn't mention it in your post so I assume you have it on). It completely ruined my fps (and several others in this thread). Also, any AA above 2x gives less performance. 2x has no performance decline for me though.

I always have it on. This doesn't make much sense, but I'll give it a go.

Posting soon.

Nope. Didn't make any difference. Still running like shit....

I don't get id damn it. Either a bug with the 5850s or the game depends too much on the cpu.

And what's that about NO 5.1 sound ?!?!

I think after you've finished with the "Origin" part of the story and get into the world, temp party members are rare. Or at least state they are only a long for the ride or so, to complete a quest or what not.

I bet it's atis crappy drivers, which often have problems with new released games.

I'll go and try to play it on xp sp3 to see if it makes any difference. I don't get it.

I had no problems using ATI drivers with the other 5-6 new games I tried so far, even with beta drivers

We'll see though.

OK guys this is the craziest fucking thing ever.

I was running at 4xAA ant it was kinda choppy, stuttery and unpleasant with vsync enabled. So I tried 2xAA as suggested and it became silky smooth, then I tried 8x and wait for it... ALSO silky smooth gameplay.

So yeah, 8x AA is better than 4xAA in this game, give it a try and post if you have similar results Laughing

sabins not mentioned it so it must be ok with ati cards, running a e6600 with a 5 series though, i wont go no higher than a 4870 for me with my clocked dual core e6600. for sure..
or its going to get bottlenecked fast, the 4870 is borderline as it is, with loosing some throughput memory transfer speeds..

ill bet its not helping matters Very Happy

I've had nothing but great performance so far, max settings except vsync, at 1680x1050 and I'm forcing 24xED AA in the ATi CP. Averaging 60-70fps, sometimes drops down to as low as 38, and creeps up as high as the 90s.

e7400 with a 4850 here, running 9.9 drivers and no problems (max all settings, 2048x1152 res). Those new 5 series are new, so it must just be drivers that need tweaking.

My thoughts on the game so far

- You can tell ALOT of effort went in to making this game
- Its BIG
- The game will take a very very long time to finish if you try every class/race combo etc
- This game will fail you if you have a short attention span
- Worth buying

Runs perfect on my rig btw.. 1920x1080 Everything maxed out.. and 2xx

Win 7 64bit
E6400 @ 3.3ghz
4850 at stock speed
6GB ram

YOU GUYS won't believe this !! lol

I restarted, booted to Win Xp Sp3, launched the game from it's folder ( it's installed to my win 7 partition ) and.. what happened??

RUNS GREAT @ 1920 all maxed +2 aa , no problems whatsoever Laughing

There are 2 differences.

1 = the OS

2 = on xp I still have the beta cats 8.66

what's going on here ???

I noticed the game didn't run well from the videos, the looked kinda choppy...on xp, as soon as the game started everything played fine.

What do you make of it? At first I thought codecs, but can't be..as on Win 7, both the videos and in-game it runs like shit, no matter what I do.

Funny thing is when I ran the Dragon Age config tool on XP, it found there are newer drivers for my 5850 and recommended I install them

Make bets guys..what wrong on Win 7??

P.S About the cpu ( 6600 ), in many games it doesn't make much difference even if you have an i7, as they are gpu dependant, and I game @ 1920x1080. On Risen for instance, it was sth like a few frames from 6600 to i7, while the price difference is HUGE

Yeah, if you're not into this kind of game, it would be rather pointless to play it.
