Well, if you wanna play this alpha version, probably infested with bugs, copy protection plagued by Starforce, all ingame conversations translated with google translator, which means, you'll have to face with alien english....ok... then be my guest! Scratch Head Very Happy

Don't use setup.exe, just extract data.plb with winrar. Mount provided mini image, install disc check software and play.

Thanx Smile extracting data.plb with winrar wasn't possible with the free lancer version so another waste of bandwithm was needed, but with the repack playbay's it works fine and i'm extracting the files now as we speak Very Happy

Works here on win7 x64.
First changed CSDVersion to 200 as was instructed in the Russian info. Then I just installed using mounted image and setup.exe. After that mounted the image and run PROTECT in bin folder and installed some drivers. Then ran the xrEngine which asked me to enter some key or do a disk check, i did disk check and the game ran.

First thing i noticed it loads a lot faster than SOC or CS, I really hated those loading times. Also it has a nice kind of intro that explains what happened in SOC and what is your mission. Nice thing you a military so you start with ak74u and ammo. I didnt start the mission right away and started to explore a bit, and already found two artifacts (same artifact finding method as in CS) and got a better detector from some stalkers.

It looks identical to SOC and CS, so you'll feel right at home. The interface just changed a bit, but nothing drastic.

Hopefully it wont turn into a bugfest as I go further. Will report later.

Can you say anything about the upgrade system? I loved it in Clear Sky.

If they combined the best of both games, we might have something.

Well, made it work after starforce successfully ass raped my windows with 3 bsods. Graphically I couldn't notice much difference from previous version, although I didn't play with the options much...from a glance no way to differentiate from previous games. Worked for 5 minutes before crashing to desktop without any error messages. Either protection or the famous stability, in either case I'm putting it aside until few patches come out.

Edit: After removing all virtual drives and emulation software and mounting it in daemon tools pro it finally worked nice Smile

Upgrade system looks exactly the same as that of CS, so you'll like it. Also if you give the mechanic some vodka, he'll give you some discount and tell you a story about his friends which you'll have to find.

The CSDVersion you'll have to change is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows for windows 7. Set it to 200 or 400 for XP. Im not sure what it does or it is even needed but it works for me. Im also getting the ??? stuff for Russian words, but thats only in the installer, once you are in the game everything is in Russian as it should be. Im not sure you can enjoy the game if you dont know Russian, this game is a bit dialog heavy, as every dude i met had something to say about the story or the mission you are doing.

Also there are a lot more mutants running around, and they are vicious. I lured several of them to some dudes, and got myself some nice weapons.

Another cool thing, there are these huge cracks in the ground, with some of them being pretty deep and usually with an artifact on the bottom, or some other goodies.

Played for about 30 mins + 30 mins and no crashes. Saw one glitch where a stalker was just floating through the air on his back.

With all the lighting stuff, my comp is struggling to run it at a decent fps. Aiming feels floaty, and im getting these weird jerks like in MMO where it lags you back. It runs pretty much the same as CS with everything turned on, and thats on 285 GTX and quad core, so im a bit dissapointed in the performance.

Did you install as a standalone? Where I got the file from, it said I needed either SOC or CS.
Also played for another hour, and so far no crashes or weird glitches.

It is a stand alone. I have neither of the other two installed and this runs just fine on it's own (cept it's in russian of course).

It's standalone as mentioned, after unpacking the data it's also quite a bit smaller than the other games though it might be a bit a more structured (Every quest is unique for example instead of randomly generated.)

Compared the core text files with the ones from Clear Sky (1.5.10) ofcourse I can't translate the entire game but I can get the menus and parts of the PDA and other core things correctly translated.
(Most of the menu is done, some new parts I guessed a bit on like the name on Renderer_R4 which is the name for DirectX 11, unsure if it's active though.)

I have to say, there's certainly progress here to be had when it comes to the variety in the "quests".

Sadly, the game crashed five minutes later - still, as I said, a lot of fun to be had with this one.

Seems like that registry entry mentioned previously is more or less required, also a reboot might be required for it to take effect.

EDIT: Some settings doesn't go as high as they can, AA, DX10.1 and SSAO for example, easily fixed by editing the config file though (User.ltx)

EDIT: Should be as high as it's possible with some minor differences such as AA amount.

 Spoiler:

(Normal SSAA set to 4x, isn't used though as MSAA works with DX10/DX10.1 and is set to 2x with 10.1 mode for alpha-aa, sun shadow distance could also be higher but it's less blurry now.)

Also using -smap4096 -sjitter -silent_error_mode and -mblur albeit the last one is a bit buggy under DX10 just like in Clear Sky, global illumination isn't used either due to performance issues and minor visual bugs.)

EDIT: Menu translations and stuff from comparing with Clear Sky files, not complete or nowhear near covering all dialog and stuff, mainly for game menus and the UI/HUD where possible, should work OK'ish.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/agd0sk
(Game folder \Gamedata\ folder, just alter fsgame.ltx as usual to allow them to be read.)

Also textures are more or less identical to the Clear Sky ones so retextures will work fine for things likes weapons and such, same goes for sounds.

I just finished installing it but that's as far as I'll go for now.

I don't feel too comfortable messing around with registry keys that I don't know and the whole antiSF driver seems a little suspicious IMO(pretty much because I've never used it before). Plus I'd have to update DTools and that's just too bothersome.

Hopefully Trivium or some other group will crack this soon and someone else will Google translate it. Then I'll play.

Are you sure you've done the fsgame.ltx edit and placed the files in the correct folder?

The xml files (Not all of them are edited yet.) should go in the "Call Of Pripyat\Gamedata\configs\text\rus" folder and fsgame.ltx needs to be altered so that this line:
$game_data$ = false| true| $fs_root$| gamedata\
Looks like this instead:
$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata\

Should cause most of the game menus and UI elements to be translated, can't do anything about voices, videos and most game localization so it kinda becomes a larger demo version, German edition in November might be easier to localize and should be a bit updated whereas I guess the fully localized Q1 2010 edition will be further improved and might also contain DX11 functionality.
(It's part of the game already but not active, part of the code is missing it seems even though Renderer_R4.dll exists and some basic functionality in the User.ltx file for tesselation and something about wireframe.)

As for the game it's been like a mix between Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl so far, less action with more exploration but still a lot of roaming enemies and shootouts and you get quite decent equipment early on though ammo and money remains a bit sparser.
(Keeping the suit and helmet repaired will probably cost a lot, same with upgrades and newer guns in a non-worn state compared to what you loot of fallen Stalkers.)

Again though I mainly see it as a larger demo until it's either translated or until it's proper release in 2010.
(It crashes now and then for example although it's not that bad, perfoms quite well even with the above configuration though AA does hit performance but it remains fully playable although while the environments are larger it's a bit less detailed from what I've seen so far, still very atmospheric however.)
