Ok i no it's not a great feat, but for me it is, with a fair amount of experimentation with the FSB and Multiplier plus HT Link as this motherboard doesn't have an NB Multiplier.

Is it stable? Have you tried running this? This is what I was recommended when I started OC'ing to test how stable my CPU is.

Well i ran it for 24 hour's also whilst doing multiple application's, no crashes, reaching about 47C which i wasn't happy about, so i dropped the NB voltage down, from 1.5v(red) to 1.425(white) and it's producing quite a lot less heat, but i'm going to stress test it running Crysis and probably WiC, basically real world situation's, which i'm very optimistic it'll run stable.

Neither games would stress the CPU properly, just like running it for 24 hours doing multiple apps. CPUs of today are rarely stressed properly (for example, running an app that stresses 100% of one of the cores is really doing nothing to test the entire CPU). Orthos can test all cores at once, doing some crazy floating point tests, so that is recommended.

Thing is, i don't really want to stress the fuck out of it, i just want it to run my game's stable, and considering no game's run all 4 core's at 100%, i personally find that test irrelevant to everyone's taste and/or need, but each to there own, i know my opinion is not the 'right' way to go about it, but everyone is different you know.
P.S. Don't flame me for the way i do thing's, it's a personal opinion.

Nice! Now if only AMD could improve their architecture to really punch it out with intel.
As long the compupter doesn't crash or freeze while doing all the normal things then you should be happy. So what if it doesn't pass prime95 or orthos. Only one thing - 1.6V! Atleast the cooling is coping well.

I have taken bot the NB voltage and CPU voltage down, now runnin at 1.55V, coretemp showing 34C-37C whilst idle, about to run Crysis to put some strain on her.

IF you want to run your games stable then you have ot make sure your system is stable. Once oyu start getting random BSOD's your going to be sitting there scratching your head wondering what's wrong. Memory can through CRC errors, CPU heatsink could be seated just right to work normally but once it starts heating up it could case issues. That's the point of these tests, to make sure your new 1000K+ investment is working like it should be.

come again? The new Phenom II CPU's have hit 6GHz on overclocking. Granted the 6ghz was a less than traditional method of cooling but they were able to hit 4GHz on straight air cooling
Quote: | What was perhaps most impressive was AMD’s demonstration of the product and their overclocking prowess with the chip. On display were several machines setup to overclock with everything from standard air cooling to water, phase change refrigeration and finally Liquid Nitrogen. On air, the Phenom II X4 was able to hit around 4GHz at 1.55V with 32ºC temps. With water cooling at 1.6V the new Phenom II X4 broke 4GHz with a 39ºC core temp and in a Vapochill setup we saw 4.4+GHz. The final icing on the cake, so to speak, was the LN2 setup where the Phenom II ran stable at speeds well in excess of 5GHz and booted at speeds in excess of 6GHz. |

Let's not go down the gigahertz road again. But the fact remains that even an overclocked Phenom II lags in performance behind not only i7 but also some older quads. And hyperthreading puts the performance crown even more out of AMD's hands. But I am sure that the people at AMD already know that and are working on the problem. |
in 4 years i will build my own CPU that will pwn both intel and amd! now what? HA?

not entirely true, i agree on the FX part, but thats like intel extreme....
When AMD was the fastest, i bought my AMD 3500 for 270 bucks, being the second fastest desktop cpu behind the amd 3800 back then, with intel nowhere being near that performance.
What also makes corei7 less important being the fastest is the lack for those kind of speeds, sure if your job is encoding videos 24/7 you could use it.
As for us gamers ( office apps you can run fine on 5 year old hardware ) we havent been cpu limited for years, when i got my amd 3500 is was needed for BF2, maybe even just not enough. todays top games do not need that much more, you could play todays game perfectly fine on a amd 720 for 120bucks on stock speeds.
So if you go past AMD their offer on CPUs, its cause you have the money to spend, not cause you need that kind of performance.

nice speeds
im current building a system with the phenom II x4 940 chip and watercooling, damn thing looks like frankenstein took over on the operation. I'm still deciding how much to overclock mine, this is my first overclock and water cooled system so im still researching things
Also I was thinking of using the Fusion Feature (its an overclock config file that you can turn on and off from a switch or powerbutton), have you tried that? it might be only on my motherboard.
Also I've read that comparing power consumption ratio that the phenom II is roughly good till about 3.6 ghz, once you hit about that the power jump goes up dramatically?? read it on tom's hardware page.
Does anyone know a good OVERCLOCKING (for dummies) webpage, yeah I'm a noob, sorry, I've read a few but still confused on the exact steps to perform .
