I finally got my new rig. I have q6600 on stock cooling and aerocool extreme engine 3t as the case. How clockable is it in your opinion?

At least 3.4-3.6Ghz....at least, but with stock heat sink...maybe 3.0
Go Water cooled if you wanna push that baby high!

naaah im not gonna buy watercooling. Just wanna take out as much as i can from it.
If i rememeber correctly i had a fan on q6600(i opened the case for a sec).
3.0ghz would be good enough for me. But i want to know what FSB and that other number should i use and does it matter what kind of RAM i have.

Most the people I know who bought any Quad series didn't even glance at the stock cooling solution. Instead they bought aftermarket cooling alongside the CPU purchase.

Those things are BBQ's so unless you get one of the many enthusiast level Tower Heatsinks don't expect miracles.

Nope! Within the realm of reality Very Happy

EDIT: Mutiplyer at 9 bump FSB to 333 to achieve 3Ghz, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT 2: Shouldn't require voltage modification - most of them can achieve 3Ghz on stock volts. If you want to stretch it FSB 400 gives you 3.2Ghz.

2.6Ghz with stock heatsink stable I got, 2.71Ghz caused games crashing etc... My opinion buy a proper cooler if you want to overclock these things Smile Mine is B3 stepping though

got to 3.6ghz with a crappy arctic cooling heatsink without breaking a sweat. Often run at 3.2 tho as my old oc'ed san diego suffered a premature death..

all depends whether you have g0 stepping or not, if you do then you can expect at least 3-3.2ghz absolute minimum. Can use cpuz-id to check.

stepping was B and revision G0
now i know why it doesnt show it in everest. It resets the settings when i try to boot after bios.
edit: ok i changed some ram frequency shit and it seemed to work. I got myself 3.0ghz now.
And if it stays that why and is stable then im happy. Very Happy
edit2: damn it! i got freezes and stuff Sad and finally got bsod. I put my ram crap back to auto but this fucked my oc up and im back at the beginning Sad
