Spoiler: | Well, actually if you think about it it's Chandra Suresh. If he hadn't started it all, there would never have been a Sylar |

Spoiler: | That's not what I am talking about. Chandra never intended to set out Sylar to be a bad guy, that was all Sylar himself. |

Spoiler: | wtf? i thought sylar ate the guys brain or summin
is that how he gets his powers?
Would've been awesome if they explained it a bit more
I think the landerman guy is just a side story. he is though somehow connected to everyone. He could be some big fish. I think claire's dad is just there to monitor them. Make sure they don't go all crazy and shit. I bet he has some power!
I bet you hiro will save the waitress one way or another. Once he gets more in touch with his powers. I bet you he'll give in to claire's dad so he can be more in control with his powers.
I like the way the show is going. I hope it doesn't turn into x-men type shit when all join together and fight against evil. |

Well Sylars original ability is to understand how things work, and instantly recognise anomalies. Maybe he just examines the persons brain in detail, discovers what makes them special and then alters his own brain in some non-invasive way so it has the same characteristic.
I doubt he eats the brain, I can't see how that would transfer the powers to him. At least as long as we're not in a total fantasy world.

It wasn't that plenty.
Was quite boring actually... I didn't enjoy it that much.

Why would he open their brains then? I think it's quite logical that he eats the brain, and gains their power.
Or just collects them for personal collection?

I don't think he eats or collects their brains, but in any case, you don't actually see him doing anything, so it's just guesswork. I go for the most plausible; I think AnimalMother's explaination is the most logical one. Sylar understand how things works just by looking at them. Exactly the way he looks at his clocks, and exactly the way you see him look into the eye of that guy and say "it's broken". He instantly understands how his brain works.

It didn't explain a lot. Nothing major at all. Sylar is just sylar. Why?
He left a message to the old guy saying he made him who he is. But I have no idea who he is or how he gets his powers. he just did what he did and that's it.

No.
But still how does he steal them. What does he do with them. If I recall correctly they found his hideout while back with jars of brains so he obviously doesn't eat them. But he does something with them.
Maybe he does an operation on himself or something. adds the missing piece and connects it to the rest of his brain.
I wanted to know more. In the next eps we'll find out more for sure.
And it's not a massive plot point now. In the last ep, before the 6 months, the "do what I say" girl and the "mem-wipe" guy caught him and the mem-wipe guy was told to wipe his memory. make him forget everything or summin.
maybe I am being obtuse but still there are some things that weren't cleared up.

You want to know how he absorbs the powers of others? Ok, do you also want to know how that one guy defies gravity, or how that woman becomes super strong? They'll never explain the biological mechanisms behind their abilities, because it's utter fantasy. So don't be too disappointed if they never explain how Sylar absorbs the abilities of others. You have to explain this kind of stuff to yourself, or just accept it as is, otherwise you'll end up feeling dissatisfied by the whole thing. If they explain it in the programme, great. But how often do they explain everything in scif-fi and fantasy?
It's ok for there to be scientfic holes in fiction, it's plot holes that piss me off.
I was doing an edit but you replied before I finished so I sort of split the post in two.

I don't care why others fly or why others do what they do.
Sylar is different than them. He normal basically. I think. He just figured out how everyone uses their powers. How they become who they are. What clicks and what doesn't click. So he's pretty much important to figure out. Why they have their powers is no big concern. How he gets their powers is.
It's probably going to be explained sooner or later. they can't explain why they're different. But they sure as hell can come up with a way to explain how sylar can steal their powers.
But now his memory’s been wiped ( I think ). So he can lose all his powers as he hasn’t been born with them and they’re not really part of his genetics. He’s been born with one silly lil powar. And that’ll pretty much stay.

Hahahaha
Y'know what! Sylar could be like peter.
He prolly take bits of brains a long with him and absorbs their powers like peter.
That could work. Can't it??
I'm just being silly now.
Yeah the black guy seems to have something cool going for him.
I just hope they don't go the x-men way and have good battle the bad.

even tho i really liked this episode i must agree that this episode didn't reveal anything significant. for example: it didn't really confirm sylars power (if it was about detecting mutants and knowing how stuff works the why couldn't he tell who claire was and didn't notice hiro?) and if he really took the powers of all the people he killed the why is he using only telekinesis?
basically everything that was "revealed" in "six months ago" we already new or deeply suspected.

Excuse me, there was a lot you didn't know about the characters.
You didn't know Linderman's people actually pushed Nathan and his wife into the barrels, and Nathan escaped by flying.
You didn't know how Niki got her powers, that she was an alcoholic, and about her father.
There was a lot of NEW and INTERESTING things in that episode, it wasn't just a filler-in. Besides, wouldn't it be stupid not knowing what Hiro did when he went back in time?
I think dismissing this episode as not significant and/or a flashback like Lost is idiotic. THIS ISN'T IT!
(btw, talking in general to all the complainters, wasn't necessary just pointed at you, liansk )

Tbf, flashbacks are never as entertaining as the "real" story and these were certainly not an exception. i can agree that we got some necessary info, but id still have rather watched the story continue.

Well look at what happened in the other episode.
Peter got arrested. There is a girl dead where he was arrested. She has her head cut off.
Peter will now be suspected of being sylar.
They're going to bring the mind reader guy. And the fbi girl. They're going to talk. Peter is going to read their minds and try to assure them he isn't sylar.(or something)
But since he can read their minds they will be wary of him and ignore his pleads. ( )
claire was going to tell her step dad she's different.
Sylar was captured by claire's father.
Something will develop there.
Mohinder is coming back.
The whole six month thing is nice and all. But they left us hanging at what possibly could be most important plot point!!
I don't regret it.
We did learn who some characters are.
We did learn how and why something’s happened to them.
It's just that I wanted to know more! More details. The most important bits were vague. The whole Nathan thing was nice but like… so what? Y’know.
Sylar’s fuckin’ interesting. We know so much about him yet we know nothing.
He can't detect others. He broke into Chandra's place and took all the info.
he and claire's father are going to work together to find all the freaks (possibly kill them or use them for something). And Mohinder will try and find them and help them understand who they are. just a guess.

That backwards episode was necessary but I didn't enjoy it like I did with the episodes before this one.

there is a HUGE difference between story development and character development, last episode was pure character development. for example: eden's story was already told (in her conversation with claires dad and the comics) BUT they still added a flashback for her to add drama and details to her char. same thing with almost everybody else - every backstory in this episode could've been told in a line or two (or not told at all).NOW im not saying that this is bad or that i didn't like this episode but i still say that there was almost no story progress in it.

ahem, hiro?
He went back in time to save the girl.
That's where the story progressed. A tiny bit.
