for me there are 3 options:
1 - nothing happens (that would be great)
2 - Banned from live (couldn't care less)
3 - Backups don't work anymore with a mandatory update (that sucks.... It would mean buying games again and WORST having to wait for them because of the poor distribution and disrispect for europe from almost everyone in the gaming business)

Option 3 is the worst of course, however, I'm afraid of option 4 which means a total ban of the hacked xbox360, now that would be really bad. I wonder if M$ can do such a thing...

With the November update, all compatible xbox1 games will be playable on Live with just the Silver subscription.

i personally think nothing will happen, only reason they did it on xbox1 was due to homebrew which risked security to the system and cheating on LIVE with unsigned code. Thus i think thats why they are crippling the drive's instead. The percentage must be very small who have actually flashed their systems due to all the horror story's you hear about failing xbox360's that alot won't bother until their warrenty runs out. There is no way they would flash a drive either and seeing the firmware (on hitachi) is stealthed i would presume its not to easy to detect.
IF they do something i rather it was just a ban from online gaming and still use silver for the updates

err the hitatchi has firmware stealth. The sammy only has media stealth both are equally flawed

well dont connect to live untill after the update, see what folks are saying, if nowt happens then your golden, if people get banned then just revert your firmware to origional.
Think very carefully about this next point, M$ wouldnt be shelling out a great deal of extra cash to implement these anti-opening/flashing into the newer revisions of the 360 if they could simply just detect the firmware without the chance of banning innocent people, because they can smell lawsuits for that.
When the november update happens nothing at all will happen, mark my words.

Or we can wait until the release of HALO 3 to see what happens. I remember people getting banned for using the French version of HALO 2 a few years ago.

i think its a load of crap.
M$ wont be changing the drives if they could prevent people with a fw flash play copies by just making a dashboard update.
and even so no mather what they do, eventualy somebody will figure out how to bypass their next atempt.

We will see what happens, but I'm 100% with evilmonkey on this, I doubt we will see anything major with the November update.

One issue which wasn't discussed is the optical eye...
I wonder if burned dvds are wearing the optical eye out. This issue was a big problem on the PS2 back in the days...

early days but then again the ps2 laser was crap anyway compared to my 3 year old chipped xbox which is still going strong laser wise with backups.
Now if your talking about xbo360x reliability and how long before it overheats and dies well thats a different matter, thus thats why i have 2x360's

What IF something did happen.. With the november update you will be able to play games with 1080p but if Microsoft do stop people from playing backups and connecting to live which would you choose? Playing games in 1080p (once they come out) or playing backups.

We CAN buy xbox games in Israel but since the whole 360 mania is only starting here we got a HUGE delay before new games arrive. Also as far as i know shipping from UK to Israel takes at least 5 working days (on a VERY lucky day) and usually it takes around 2 weeks.
