| Quote: | Clive Barker’s 1987 horror movie “Hellriaser” is getting the revival treatment at Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group. “The Dark Knight” writer David S. Goyer is on board to produce and pen the script.
Spyglass will finance, develop, and fast track the film for worldwide theatrical distribution. This marks the first project since the company announced its re-launch. Keith Levine will serve as a producer alongside Goyer, under the Phantom Four banner. Chris Stone will oversee the project for Spylass.
The new “Hellraiser” was announced Monday by Barber and described as a “loyal, yet evolved reimagining” of the 1987 original featuring the character Pinhead. |

David Bruckner to direct. In case the name rings (or doesn't ring) a bell, Bruckner has directed plenty of horror flicks in his career: The Signal, V/H/S (one segment), Southbound (one segment), The Ritual, The Night House.
The script will be written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (who wrote The Night House for Bruckner), based on Goyer's story treatment. Goyer also produced The Night House and is producing this film as well.

I'm kind of okay with this franchise ending completely. It was after all only the first two movies that were proper Hellraiser movies. 3 & 4 were watchable. The rest were all junk and were just renamed scripts to ride on the franchise name.

It was a horror/romance. 1 and 2.
3 and 4 became more horror.
The rest just shit.
Barker was attached to the tv series for it.
Sad that it wont happen and having b-level directors/writers doing this is just silly.
It'll be gory and graphic but it won't be hell raiser.

Technically Pinhead is still a man since the actress is trans.

I gotta watch the original.. only saw bits and pieces of it when i was a little kid and too scared to watch more. Is it like typical horror franchise where the first movie is good and the rest is garbage?

Watch the first 2 movies then skip the rest. The first 2 movies are really tied together so that is the only reason I recommend both but after that there is no reason to watch the rest of the series. I watched some of the later ones out of curiosity to see the new Pinhead actor and it really was not worth it.

I'll check it out. I doubt it'll top the first two, horror movies from that era with practical effects hit different, but maybe it'll be entertaining enough.
