not many do... but remakes are cheaper and easier than coming up with new ideas.

... because it was one of the stupidest movies in the history? (for me)

not quite a remake...

Quote:
We are actually writing the script right now and we don't want to remake exactly the Cliver Barker movie," Bustillo tells Twitch Film. "We have met Clive and told him what we want to do with 'Hellraiser' and he said, "It's f**king good do it!' We are happy to have his benediction. It will not be a remake. It will still be called 'Hellraiser' and it will have a new Pinhead." He added, "We are big fans of the original but we don't want to do it as a remake since that would be complete nonsense to do [or approach] it that way. Our story is very very different I promise! It will be cool!"

review with a lot of praise here:

trailer for it here:

tbh I'd rather watch this than a hellraiser remake, sounds similar to haute tension Smile

cinemablend recently sat down with the CEO of Miramax and was asked about the likelihood of a hellraiser remake, to which he teased the possibility that they may be actually working on it at this moment in time and its on the program.

Hellraiser 1 & 2 were unique in many ways and I seriously doubt a modern remake will reach for the darkness and sadomasochism going on in the original movies. If they do a reboot it'll be stripped of Barkers kinky dark sadism and replaced with a standard monster movie.

I doubt there will be a remake/reboot. The last attempt (Dimension Films) has been in development hell since 2006. The brand has been destroyed by Hellraiser 5-8 (that were made from non-Hellraiser scripts that a writer added some cenobites and the cube to in order to sell the crap under the Hellraiser brand) and Hellraiser 3-4 weren't even close to the first two movies although they kept the story going somewhat (with 4 being both a futuristic sequel and a prequel telling the origin story).
