Hopefully this means a way to get to the game's ending without breaking the progress etc like the original did (One mistake and well, you're fucked up and go back to the beginning, and not sure if you were able to skip talks or cutscenes)

Funny how the trailer in that STEAM link says "Avaliable now!" but it's NOT OUT YET (Smartasses)

I've tried to get the original working properly several times over the years (following guides, tricks etc.) but there was always something that f**ked up.

If this version looks good, plays good and work as it's supposed to it's an instabuy for me.

Trailer looks like the videos were nicely upscaled and framed up to 60fps. Main playable sections look more or less the same, with the clunky animations of yonder. Must wait and properly see.

Seems this version is rather shit and destroys the image of the original

Quote:
Backgrounds in Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition are blurry messes. Their remastering process has removed many video compression artifacts, sure, but it's removed a hell of a lot of intentional detail too. It turns complex surfaces into smears, blends highlights into murk, and makes many crisp lines blurry. It even tones down the omnipresent rain which defines the mood of 2019 Los Angeles. It changes the nature of materials too, blurring out bricks and sanding down rust.

Kind of a bummer this seems to have turned out so bad and the GOG version being something they restored themselves means no Steam release.

The scumm version devs are not happy as well. For being so obsessed with releasing PC games on consoles, they never do a good job. Controller "support" in this version is just moving a mouse cursor with the sticks. Just a half assed barelly functional hack in a game that was never designed to work with pads.

A guy from nightdive says they are aware of everything and working on the issues. But the thing is, even without any issue, the GOG scumm release is just perfect. It doesnt actually need anything that nightdive is doing. It all works flawlessly in that version. So just get the GOG release if you want to replay this

By the way the subtitles are full of spoilers. For example, when McCoy comes back home after the first day he gets a message from Clovis but obviously he doesn’t know him or his name at the time. But the subtitles jus say it’s Clovis speaking Smile

NO instabuy from me. How the hell they messed up this masterpiece of a game so badly is beyond my comprehension.

Wow... just wow.

Nightdive Studios should just shut down already. To Nightdive:

If the source code is lost for a classic 90'ies game, don't try to "hack" the exe or disassemble the code and totally fail to improve on it. Choose an existing 2D adventure game engine that you either modify to make the game play like the original OR write your own game engine that emulates the original - you should have the knowledge to do just that without too much trouble since the game mechanics in the original game wasn't that advanced to begin with; it was the music, the graphics, the puzzles and the story that made that game a classic, assets you actually have full access to. If you can't even do that you shouldn't be in the business to begin with.

Like i said, the GOG version that was reverse engineered for SCUMM is perfect. It starts imediately, runs at your monitors native resolution (with black bars to keep the original aspect ratio). I would play this version even if nightdive didnt fuckup because i prefer the original look above the smoothing done by AI

Get it from a tracker, install and play. You dont need guides and tweaks anymore like the original 97 release did

GoG version doesn't work on consoles, so it's pure cashgrab for consoles i guess?

anyways, the little money they might earn from this can't be worth the immense backlash, no way... idiotic move.

I was a bit puzzled to learn about this remake since a fantastic job has been done with the amazing ScummVM (probably one of the greatest project related to PC gaming ever), seems like it was indeed a fucking cash grab with some AI crapeola to justify it.
Nightdive are really scummy using resources willingly given to them by passionate fans and not crediting them..

I'll stick with ScummVM as initially planned then Very Happy

Looks just like the version from 1997. Also, in the event that anyone's playing this as well, how the hell do you pick your speech alignment? I put it to "user choice" before you start, and there's no way to shift McCoy's tone ingame from what I found.

Some scenes look ok, better than 1997 even. But some look MUCH worse which is simply horrible as the original already looks pretty bad.

This is how the original game looks like when your eyes are full of tears in the rain.

(stole that from a Steam review Laughing )

The only flaws i see is that in the original everything blends together, in the remake some assets, more or less characters just look out of place.

That's pretty much it, yeah Laughing Some scenes are a bit improved even if it's smear-fest all over, but most of them aren't, at all ! Razz

I briefly tried the iso out of curiosity, it really is a laughably poor remustarding job from Nightdive. The upscale-related vaseline effect is *very* strong and gives a washed-out and almost soap-opera-like feel to the scenes, you can't even freely walk around anymore because reasons, the interface looks like a placeholder, and who knows what else they messed up. Time to board the Black Pearl and get the fixed 'n restored 2019 GOG version instead.
