Is this comparable to Ion Fury (like a 3D version?) Or more close to Borderlands (seem to remember at least the second game had some loot aspects)?

It's going to be closer to the original game, but with an obvious touch of modern DOOM.

The thing that I miss the most from the shooters of that golden era (including the classic Wang which I'm replaying) is the multi-layered level design that required exploration, with the great attention to detail, signature key hunting and hidden nooks/secrets. That's what made Ion Fury so great, it simply recaptured the ancient FPS spirit without needing to resort to cheap memberberries or fellowkids features.
Although both Shadow Warrior 2013 and DOOM 2016 were definitely enjoyable and this new one looks quite promising as well on paper, it's a bit of a shame that the arena-like structure has almost entirely replaced the old formula. At least it seems the awkward looter-shooter-isms from SW2 were abandoned, thank Mr. Chan for that.

Is this procedually generated grinder like the second game or (hopefully) a proper single-player campaign like the first one?

The review I listened to said it had more of a design to it. So it's looking good.

It lost all the charm, length, complexity, and humor that Shadow Warrior 2 had in spades. While the shooting experience wasn't bad (it was fun!) it just didn't have that lasting appeal, or much of any content really.
Burned through it in like 5-6 hours on Hard and uninstalled - there's nothing to go back to. Definitely not remotely close to the $50 asking price.

Time hasn't been kind to Lo Wang, he's just chasing the fad of the moment instead of doing something interesting or somewhat remarkable, thus losing his identity. I agree with the criticisms, although this SW3 isn't a disaster it's essentially another sidestep, now cosplaying as Doom Eternal's cheap cousin with Marvel's humour hamfisted into it
The level design as per usual with these linear arena-based shooters is simplistic (all about going in circles till the room is clear), with the ol' melee system that was streamlined accordingly. The visuals aren't anything to write home about, and it's a very short game, too. I liked though that the player doesn't have to resort to cutscenes to replenish ammo (looking at you, Eternal!) and all the guns are viable, which means that the flow of the action is never interrupted unless a special power is used. Still disappointing, but in the current deserted panorama of first-person shooters I guess it could be a six slinky jakku's/10 attempt.
