To be honest, when it comes to shooters and "story-driven" games, I rather have it go straight from A to B to C. I am not a big fan of the "open-world" experience and Prey kind of falls into the latter.
And most video games aren't my thing, that's true. Or usually, and I think many noticed this, I can love a game for a bit and then I notice a pattern and I can change my opinion 180°. Like I did with The Division 2, TW3K and others.
On the other hand, I can play games like Space Engineers for hundred of hours without any goal or reason, lol.
I guess either make it really sandbox/open or make it all Story-driven. Both together, not my thing at all.
I wouldn't call Prey an open world game to start with. It's a 'hub game', with a central point branching out to different sections, which you are free(-ish) to take on in non-linear fashion (when they become available, at least).
I never got too far with it, I liked it mostly for its aesthetics and exploration. But the monsters grew old quickly, especially the respawning ones. Perhaps I should give it another go in lower difficulty or story mode (don't even remember it had such a mode).
does it get better than the initial first 1-2h? it was just so boring.
i struggled a ton with the 2 new deus ex games too though, quit almost directly and i've tried restarting them a few times, but nah... i guess i'm just not a fan of these super generic office environments.

The later levels clearly show that the devs went lazy: "play your way" is almost non existent on later levels, most of the stuff can only be reached/accessed only one way.
Talos I is such a well-designed interconnected hub with multiple mini-sectors that the game is worth playing for the micro (and macro) exploration alone. The various logs, NPCs, and writing in general are quality as well, which is another incentive when it comes to progressing and unraveling the mystery.
As it often happens with immersive sims, the difficulty and experience overall aren't homogeneous but can suffer from some balancing issues, and Prey definitely isn't immune either from this rollercoaster-like type of effect. That's why I advise playing on the hard(er) difficulties to preserve the sense of dread and mitigate the inevitable moment where the player becomes a powerhouse. As a whole, it is the closest to SS2 that we can find in the modern market, and I fear it will also remain the only one.
There was a mysterious 16GB (for people who own Mooncrash it was 4.3 GB) update and another 1.3GB afterwards with no official news. People on the forum are speculating that they are making Mooncrash available for everyone but I don't have it yet in my library.

Sorry for the big bump but trying this again and i'm struggling with the enemies, i'm about 5-6 hours in, did my first space trip and back to my office where i keep all my loot.
On the way back there's like 1-2 phantom every corner, and one even got into my office lol i ran like crazy! I mean even the regular mimic hit me for like 30-40 hp, and no way to reg your hp outside of combat.
Not sure if i will keep playing it that way, am i missing something? Thanks

You're still relatively weak at the beginning of the game, playing hide 'n seek with the stronger Typhons is part of the experience in order to maintain a certain level of tension. Keep exploring the station and completing quests/objectives, you'll progressively get more powerful by gaining multiple powers and weapons that will eventually let you face such enemies without too much disadvantage. The game isn't a regular shooter by any means, think of it more like a slow-paced exploration-heavy action-adventure. It's essentially the true heir to the glorious System Shock 2.
My suggestion is dictated by the fact that the atmosphere is supposed to be a horror-like one, and the Hard difficulty (or even better the Nightmare one) is the optimal choice in order to preserve the challenge till the end - since otherwise you'll get to a point where you're practically like a space Commando. You're free to play it however you like it though of course, if you prefer a more direct shooter-like approach the Normal or Easy settings can provide that.
Going to avoid the bigger enemies as much as i can, also found the shotgun so that might help. I do going to keep it on normal since i'm getting my ass kicked even at that. Sadly i'm having difficult time on recent games like Resident Evil remakes/7 and this... I used to be ok with games like Dead Space.. will try my best this time to advance with Prey.
Finally played through this and it was exceptionally good game. I very much enjoyed the slower pacing, initial tough difficulty and multiple avenues to solve problems.
Shame this game didn't seem to sell so well for Arcane as I don't really like their other games. It did have a few flaws in some early encounters and nightmare spawns almost broke saves, i had bugged quests but nothing crazy.
