Going to do a replay of the HL2 series after last playing them during their release. Other than the MMod, what else can I use for better textures in Hl2/E1/E2? Most of these mods like CM completely change the look of the game and I want something that just adds better quality textures and is lore friendly.
I'm playing Half Life 2: Update mod atm. Its good enough for me and stays true to the lore. Plus its on steam.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The Update is a way to play hl2. Makes it look as You remember

Has nobody done an AI texture upscale mod? I'd be surprised if someone hasn't given they are all the rage at the moment coupled with the popularity of HL2.
I'm tempted to try a few samples myself to see what they look like, but I don't have the time/inclination at the moment to actually play the game to get useful saves for testing. If someone wants to upload a save the first time in Kleiner's lab I can probably give Alyx's textures a whirl and see if it's worth bothering with.
Edit: Google provides. Found a place that had some saves. Checking out whether upscaling makes any noticeable difference (or more accurately whether it's an improvement).

Tried a couple of AI upscales to see if they made much difference. Not enough to bother with in my opinion, especially since a lot of what you gain is a mess, details-wise. Although I am fussy about these things. Plus I am still running 1080p, which may make it less worthwhile.
Vending machine 512x512 -> 2048x2048
Spoiler:
Alyx face/hair 1024x512 -> 4096x2048, body 1024x1024 -> 4096x4096 (plus a few other of her bits and pieces)
But you win more than you lose, so I'm recommending it.
Just inject some AO to ground the objects in the world instead of them floating in flat lighting and you are good to go.
HL2's art is great and the upscaling mod destroys it.

Also, make sure to play it with DSOAL if using headphones

just played through episode 1 and 2 to get caught up for the alyx, i remember how much i hate the gravity gun gimmick and how the game tries to force you to use it when you don't want to. the final stryder battle was pretty cool, almost like battlefield.. but once again they shoe-horned the gravity gun into being a requirement
episode 1 was pretty much just shit, but ep2 wasn't bad. of course i am hugely not a fan of the drama and cutscene shit prevalent in half-life 2 (and especially not dragging around alyx). it makes me wish hl alyx wasn't at all connected to hl2 but built on hl1/black mesa.
now i'm not sure if i actually want to buy alyx, i hate linearity and a lot of half-life 2s design today

Lol, that's basically what HLA is built around, just in glove form. Then slap the VR gimmick on top of that and Valve is like a pig rolling in shit.

yeah i'm deathly afraid of it (that and the simplification of the game for VR noobs), although manipulating objects with your hands is likely to be a lot more fun and intuitive thankfully.
i'm mixed between waiting for reviews (which will likely throw it to the dogs ) and just buying the game since i had so much fun with boneworks (except the puzzle shit really).
