Depends on your budget.
But a Rift S on sale is definitely the best bang for the buck.
Of course Black Friday just passed so it might be a while
The problem with the WMR headsets like the Odyssey+ is the support can be wonky and the controllers are not exactly amazing.
And of course if you can afford the Index... |
Oh cool, was gonna get a WMR since the Index still doesn't ship to this country and I'd rather order via Amazon so that I know exactly how much importing will cost and I don't get blindsided by ridiculous fees.
Rift S should be getting here next week, so gotta rearrange my room's layout beforehand haha.

It's quite possible to enjoy those with the dreptroller too, which is how I've been playing them.

Yeah I've been playing some blade & sorcery on the index. It's a lot of fun but still pretty barebones.
Next update will bring more spells which should make things more interesting.
The swordplay is awesome. I especially like stabbing people with daggers. Works beautifully in slow motion too where you can hit with higher speed effectively.
Also throwing stuff and pushing or throwing people into spikes is great.
Theres no progression of any kind yet so it's all just arena battles with no rewards, just for fun. Looking forward to when you can actually progress in some way.

Hand tracking for the Quest is out: https://www.oculus.com/blog/thumbs-up-hand-tracking-now-available-on-oculus-quest/
It's unknown if they will add it to the Rift S (they said they might look into it, but since the Quest is their best seller, who knows), but it doesn't really matter for games, as you can't have both controllers and hand tracking running together, so I won't lose any sleep if they don't.

Got Boneworks. Game is good. Need to get used to the tracking on it. My kid loves the angry birds game from viveport, that thing is fun too.
I did play some No Man's Sky... Interesting experience, need to get used to tracking.
But man, I swear, I'm gonna destroy shit around the house playing Boneworks. First time picking up a soda and trying to drink it only to hit my head LOL
Need to figure out how to adjust the settings and stuff. Getting a bit of a fish eye effect and edges are blurry. Some text is hard to read. Part of the problem is that I can't fit my glasses with the headset lol

my glasses work alright in the vive and my glasses are pretty large compared to most, just make sure you dial the eye-relief out at least 1 notch so you don't scratch the vive lens with your glasses. you lose a tiny bit of fov but i can't see for shit in vr without my glasses
and make sure the vive is pretty tight, your ipd is dialed in correctly and that the headset is high or low enough on your head, it really affects clarity having any of these wrong and it's pretty easy to fit the vive badly. the clarity will probably never be perfect on the vive though.
i used the damn thing for quite awhile before i realized the back strap wasn't pulled low enough on my head and the vive could sit too high or too low on my face.
and yeah, boneworks does make it really easy to smash things, i recommend not having anything remotely near your play area

If you are starting with VR do not play Boneworks. I repeat, do not play Boneworks. Play other stuff for a week or two.

Friend of mine who has never used a VR headset before and wanted to try it at my place first did the oculus first steps, then superhot, gorn, pistol whip, boneworks and finally elite dangerous
He had no problem with any of the games at all
Some people are just born with VR legs I guess
I still can't play boneworks or elite without nausea

I let my dad (72 years old) play with the rift and he immediately got it. This tech is just super immersive. I could hand him a gamepad and he wouldn't be able to drive a car without crashing it into the wall, but VR? ez pz.

Exactly, my 4 yr old daughter got the hang of it right away and she doesn't know how to handle a gamepad.

The funniest thing was how my 4 year old nephew couldn't play the first contact demo because he was so short that he only saw the underside of the table xD I had to lift him up

Boneworks is the worst game design I've encountered since I can remember. How could they make such a fun mechanic so boring, cumbersome, annoying and confusing is beyond me. Just the fact that saves are half baked makes me think this is more of an alpha than a full release. Or a tech demo, as the game suggests in one of its graffitis.
