@jermore how far did you go? I stopped playing after 40 minutes after going down the drain (literally) and walking up to some locked door.

i got to the streets thankfully, from what i can tell you can't quit until you get the option to warp to the streets levels on the escape menu.
the lack of saving is a very odd omission and there is a hell of a lot of raging about it on the forums unsurprisingly.

i also realized there is more than one slow down state and if you tap the slow motion button a few times before holding it, you get the full matrix experience.. makes combat pretty hilarious. Laughing

Depends on your budget.

But a Rift S on sale is definitely the best bang for the buck.

Of course Black Friday just passed so it might be a while

The problem with the WMR headsets like the Odyssey+ is the support can be wonky and the controllers are not exactly amazing.

And of course if you can afford the Index...

Oh cool, was gonna get a WMR since the Index still doesn't ship to this country and I'd rather order via Amazon so that I know exactly how much importing will cost and I don't get blindsided by ridiculous fees.

Rift S should be getting here next week, so gotta rearrange my room's layout beforehand haha.

got about six hours in boneworks, although fair bit of it wrestling trying to make vive controls bit better.. but steamvr rebinding is the real problem not the game, wouldn't let me bind anything so i can't use toggle grip even though it should be easy to do.
that said i'm getting real good at using all the goddamn buttons at once doing everything in slow motion Laughing

game started off a bit dull but it's really good once it gets going, so long as you are abusing your matrix abilities to their maximum, once you get a bit better at the game it's even possible to play with dual pistols, throwing them in the air to reload and catching them Laughing
it's still a 50/50 as to whether i can climb up on a platform - i must look like a complete douchebag irl trying to get up on things in this fucking game Laughing

love that giant saw blade part haha
i don't think melee is quite there in this game, it's not quite blade and sorcery - it's really floppy compared and the grips are hard as fuck to use.. still, slow motion sledge hammer to the brain is satisfying (and breaking glass in slowmo).

edit: i should mention i was getting some queasiness the first time playing but the 2nd or 3rd time i have no issues at all now.

Yeah it's the biggest offender in this regard. I can't play that game Laughing

Really? Somehow I can play GORN just fine as a VR beginner. Though I am using that comfort mode.

Played through half the game in one go.

Comparing that to Boneworks or Blade & Sorcery where I can just about play 10 minutes without feeling like I rode Rollercoasters all day.

Actually riding Rollercoasters all day is pretty great, and fun!

Budget Cuts 2 hype!

Dirt rally, Project Cars 2, Assetto Corsa and even Euro/American truck simulator are awesome in VR behind a steering wheel indeed !

OMG this one will be golden in VR also ! Surprised

Anyone tried this one ? : https://store.steampowered.com/app/629730/Blade_and_Sorcery/

Yeah I've been playing some blade & sorcery on the index. It's a lot of fun but still pretty barebones.
Next update will bring more spells which should make things more interesting.

The swordplay is awesome. I especially like stabbing people with daggers. Works beautifully in slow motion too where you can hit with higher speed effectively.

Also throwing stuff and pushing or throwing people into spikes is great.

Theres no progression of any kind yet so it's all just arena battles with no rewards, just for fun. Looking forward to when you can actually progress in some way.

EmuVR got another update

Runs extremely well for me now, finally able to play Virtua Cop 1 & 2 and Time Crisis like in the good old days.

And to think just months ago I was considering getting those expensive light guns just to do this (not that they dont have their advantages)

Hand tracking for the Quest is out: https://www.oculus.com/blog/thumbs-up-hand-tracking-now-available-on-oculus-quest/

It's unknown if they will add it to the Rift S (they said they might look into it, but since the Quest is their best seller, who knows), but it doesn't really matter for games, as you can't have both controllers and hand tracking running together, so I won't lose any sleep if they don't.

congratulations, now jump into boneworks and experience maximum nausea! okay maybe don't.

the last level on boneworks is fucking epic, i don't know why the whole game isn't like that level (other than the frame rate Laughing)
non-stop chaos, jumping from crate to crate, enemies in all directions, huge area with lots of climbing etc

Got Boneworks. Game is good. Need to get used to the tracking on it. My kid loves the angry birds game from viveport, that thing is fun too.

I did play some No Man's Sky... Interesting experience, need to get used to tracking.

But man, I swear, I'm gonna destroy shit around the house playing Boneworks. First time picking up a soda and trying to drink it only to hit my head LOL

Need to figure out how to adjust the settings and stuff. Getting a bit of a fish eye effect and edges are blurry. Some text is hard to read. Part of the problem is that I can't fit my glasses with the headset lol

my glasses work alright in the vive and my glasses are pretty large compared to most, just make sure you dial the eye-relief out at least 1 notch so you don't scratch the vive lens with your glasses. you lose a tiny bit of fov but i can't see for shit in vr without my glasses Laughing

and make sure the vive is pretty tight, your ipd is dialed in correctly and that the headset is high or low enough on your head, it really affects clarity having any of these wrong and it's pretty easy to fit the vive badly. the clarity will probably never be perfect on the vive though.

i used the damn thing for quite awhile before i realized the back strap wasn't pulled low enough on my head and the vive could sit too high or too low on my face.

and yeah, boneworks does make it really easy to smash things, i recommend not having anything remotely near your play area Laughing

If you are starting with VR do not play Boneworks. I repeat, do not play Boneworks. Play other stuff for a week or two.

Friend of mine who has never used a VR headset before and wanted to try it at my place first did the oculus first steps, then superhot, gorn, pistol whip, boneworks and finally elite dangerous

He had no problem with any of the games at all

Some people are just born with VR legs I guess

I still can't play boneworks or elite without nausea

I let my dad (72 years old) play with the rift and he immediately got it. This tech is just super immersive. I could hand him a gamepad and he wouldn't be able to drive a car without crashing it into the wall, but VR? ez pz.

Exactly, my 4 yr old daughter got the hang of it right away and she doesn't know how to handle a gamepad.

Boneworks is the worst game design I've encountered since I can remember. How could they make such a fun mechanic so boring, cumbersome, annoying and confusing is beyond me. Just the fact that saves are half baked makes me think this is more of an alpha than a full release. Or a tech demo, as the game suggests in one of its graffitis.

what mechanic are you losing your shit over?

the games design is right out of the 90s for sure though, top to bottom, reminds me so much of half-life 1 Laughing
i actually think halflife alyx will have a fucking hard time topping boneworks, although i would hope alyx will be a lot more consistent. boneworks is really good in some parts, but it can be frustrating when mechanics don't work perfectly or they purposely make the level design annoying.

the tutorial was completely useless in teaching me how to climb properly, or that the floor settings had to be so that you could touch the ground well before you did in real life to actually climb over shit properly. if they had actually explained that shit the game would have been so much less frustrating in the early game.
