I call them lesbians because they look like one, i dont fucking care if they in fact romance womens. There is 1 female barb and 1 female paladin. Both look like lesbians.
Like I mentioned, even this game has received this type of complaints.

I havent done much research on this game but after a while started noticing a large number of female companions, what the fuck. All the tanks (well, 2 by the looks of it) in the game are lesbians, why ... so I have to spend money now to create custom NPCs with no backstory. Sigh..
One thing to keep in mind is that Pathfinder doesn't truly have "tanks". It doesn't really follow the trinity of tank/healer/dps. Healing during combat isn't recommended, it's best to heal between encounters. Meanwhile characters don't have "aggro/threat" and due to how many different defenses there are (AC, Touch AC, Flat-footed AC, Fortitude, Reflex, Will, CMD) it's just not useful to focus exclusively on being a tank. This is also why Valerie and her "shield specialist" character kinda suck.
You still need characters to be able to defend themselves, but you should take it on a per-character basis. Your melee characters are still useful to intercept some enemies, to flank, to take advantage of attack of opportunities, but you shouldn't rely on big buffed warriors to tank.
The list of companions does have male classes which can easily be turned into "tanks". Clerics can survive on the frontline, and a Magus can take defensive spells to be hard to hit. Mirror Image, Blur and Displacement make it harder to hit a magus even if the attack succeeded, meanwhile Shield, Mage Armor, Barkskin make it harder to succeed in the first place.
If you focus on heavy armor and large HP pool, your tanks will eventually struggle. Those characters are prime target for touch attacks, mainly touch attack spells.

Thanks for actually explaining something instead of being a feminist.
I will look into this.
Valerie sucks as a shield specialist? Wot? She was regularly the last one standing during my boss encounters. There are enough buffs and items in this game to cover her weaknesses. I realy liked how much I had to use buffs in this game, even though it enhances the trial and error aspect of encounters somewhat. What really sucked during my play was my own character, a paladin. I was too far in to start over I might've ruined the build though, I couldn't really figure out the strength of the paladin in this game.
What you should focus on in this game with low defense characters is mobility, a chance to get away when the character becomes a target.

I was referring to the classical concept of tanks, as typically seen in the trinity structure where they keep the party alive. If that was the goal in Pathfinder, Valerie being last one standing would be the opposite of the goal desired, but PF works differently.
(It'd still be nerve-wracking in a pen-in-paper game tho, probably worth keeping some spare character sheets around )
So it was going quite well, loving the ruleset implementation so far.

Among RPGs of late, this is the only game that:
- Doesn't really place an emphasis on romance at all
- Doesn't push SJW agenda at all
And I'm very allergic to that shit already, so I'd notice.
Both of these "strong" women will at one point face a man they hate 1v1, and get thoroughly beaten. Btw. And you can decide what turn their personal quests take, and those make sense.
On my hard playthrough the enemies hit like fucking trucks, and Valerie was a perfect tank. 64 AC, I when someone with a shield was near her (Cleric for me). And even then she sometimes got picked.
My main was a monk, pretty high AC as well, around 50, he got picked a lot. But he was super fast, very good at avoiding AoOs, so he was a real good caster tripper-killer.
And Amiri was very weak (perhaps I build her wrong), anyone sneezed in her vicinity, she was dead, so I didn't even use her.
I also loved, that you needed to correctly buff up, based on what enemies you were facing to begin with.
@Radicalus: Amiri is a high damage low defense barbarian, she shines when you get her some proper feats. I also thought she sucked at first, but I kept her since I liked the character. Eventually she became a massive damage dealer. Amiri + greater cleave against trash mobs = win. I really got into the character building in this one, it was very well done. The group feats (or what they were called) were very useful.
Now that I think of it, this game had more innovation than I thought

What do you mean exactly? Isn't it the purpose of a tank to stand while the others die? Negate/decrease damage while having a high HP pool? Are you talking about the lack of aggro? If that is the case you can easily work around that by sending in your tank first, make him/her efficient in pissing off enemies and keep your squishy chars at distance. If those squishy chars become a target, use mobility feats and spells.
I was just anmoyed I dont have male warriors to choose from is all. I so like the dwarf cleric.
Bro. Regongar is strong as fuck, has really, really high damage (just have the cantrip Touch of Fatigue on autocast - will net you one extra attack a round). Also pick up both empower and maximize (so you can slot in touch attack in higher slots as well). He is one of the coolest characters. You can build him very tanky, and his DPS is through the roof.
Ekun also wrecks ass, put some strength on him, use composite bows, pick up the good archery feats, and he is a high damage machine gun, and his fucking dog. Oh man. He is so tanky, and trip people up.

Amiri was cool enough, yeah, but Regongar soon got her spot - damage was higher,, and since I steamrolled through trash, the problem for me were the harder fights. And at the end, when spoilers, a spot opened up, I brought in Kalessi instead, built her nicely, and when she layed on the damage, it outpaced my evocation based wiz Octavia.
+Edit: yes, this game was a very nice and deep implementation of DnD 3.75. I can't praise this game enough.

"First of all was Pathfinder setting. We decided that at the very least our first game would be around big, known franchise, and this one was perfect for us since a) we loved to play it; second, it gave us very big base for world-building."

Beneath the Stolen Lands
Some of our shrewder fans have already figured out that we like to release things near the end of the month. Such was our plan for “Beneath The Stolen Lands”, our 3rd DLC, as well. However, after postponing it for a month from late April to late May, we’ve realized we now had 2 releases lined up one after the other in the space of a week. For this reason, we’ve decided that it would make more sense to release both the DLC and Enhanced Edition on the same day, June 6.
Just to remind you what it's going to be like:
“Beneath The Stolen Lands” Key Features
Enter a massive dungeon with a party made from scratch. Begin your adventure to the Tenebrous Depths with a party of newly created characters. Start the game from the main menu and experience the descent into an endless rogue-like dungeon
Explore the near-infinite possibilities of building a Pathfinder character. Try out different builds to perfect your tactics at your leisure. Create a band of adventurers able to overcome any danger!
Defeat is but a new beginning! Dying in an encounter enables additional benefits for your next playthrough
Unlock new items to buy across multiple playthroughs. The number of item slots traders have depends on how far you have been able to descend during all of your previous forays combined
Enter the dungeon as your main character, alternatively you can wait for an invitation from a mysterious protector of Golarion as you play through the Main Story. The pre-set version of the dungeon is included into the main campaign, allowing you to use your character and companions to conquer the Tenebrous Depths
Enhanced Edition and "Beneath the Stolen Lands are out!

• increased variety of random encounters on the global map
• thousands of fixes and improvements made since the game's initial release
I just found out that this game actually has a very well made (toggleable) turn based mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/pathfinderkingmaker/mods/109
I was never really interested in it despite loving the setting because i just can't stand playing RtwP games anymore but this changes everything.

Just bought it, it's 50% off atm and i allrdy had so much fun with it yesterday.
The TB mod is absolutely essential i also got "closer to tabletop" and a few other mods now which really make it like playing the pnp game.
Turn based mod sounds all well and good, but unless they go and re-balance a ton of encounters and get rid of those "gotcha" moments there's really no saving this game. Even on normal with a well balanced party there was a ton of save scumming required if I remember correctly.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
