The way Steam has been lately I am surprised one of the forum mods didn't ban that guy in the forums but just locked the topic instead.

I still don't know what SJW means.........
Anyway, enjoying the game so far, but the bugs are so bloody obvious it's like buying a car with no wheels, how it got through is a mystery.

Oh there is no exaggeration.
The game's developers specifically stated the following in order to an question regarding adding 'SJW stuff':
| Quote: | Now that's a minefield of a question. This depends on how exactly you define "SJW stuff" -- for some people it's anything less hyper-masculine than Conan the Barbarian with illustrations by Boris Vallejo I heard people calling Furiosa "too feminist" and ruining the new Mad Max movie. For them, probably, the mere existence of Amiri -- the iconic barbarian woman who was exiled from her tribe for being a warrior rather than a housewife, and has been kicking major ass ever since -- would be "SJW stuff" too.
Let me put it this way: our top priority is to tell a good high fantasy story, and we are not planning to ruin it just to preach some real-life politics. On the other hand, we aren't going to pretend that women are less fit to be heroes than men, or that LGBT people somehow don't exist.
I'm afraid, I'm not qualified to discuss the studio's political stance The game will (it already does) include strong female characters, as well as POC and LGBT people. But it's not Deus Ex, Bioshock, Papers Please or That Dragon, Cancer: we are not making it to take a stand on a real-life issue. Of course, nothing is politics-free, but not everything is focused on politics.
There is a lot of toxicity in the gaming culture, but, again, we are not here to join one of the many sides of the holywar. We just want to make a good game everyone can enjoy. We respect and value every voice in the community, but reserve the right to hold to our own vision. |
The very fact the developers felt the need to specifically point out that while they don't want to make a political point, they're going to ensure the very stuff being discussed is going to be in the game - whether we like it or not.
The phrasing 'Of course, nothing is politics-free, but not everything is focused on politics.' tells me that they are fully aware that the content they'll be adding is going to be viewed as 'political'.
And there is absolutely SJW-related bannings from the steam forums by the developers, I've seen it.

I think the answer is quite neutral.

Of course they knew their work is going to be viewed as political. You think SJW are the only extreme?

From what I gathered, they are banning/locking everything that's related to politics, no matter of the side.

But if they'd not tried to shoehorn it in, like is becoming the norm, then such discussions would never have taken place.

How is this forced? The moment one of these characters was in the game, the discussions would have taken place, because as I said, there are two extremes.

*sigh*
Slight SPOILERS about party members.
What SJW elements? Spoiler: | Linzi is from a small farming village, where teaching children is frowned upon regardless of sex. Valerie would be chosen to become a Paladin regardless of sex.
Amiri is from a hunter-gatherer culture and probably the only character who had to fight those "traditional gender models" or something.
None of your companions are happy campers. Aside from the aforementioned you have Jaethal, who is a psychopath; Harrim, the clumsy, depressed dwarf; the two lovebirds are two sides of manic-depressive disorder, thr other cleric has anxiety.
Haven't found other companions, but they most likely also have tragic backstories
|
This is not Siege of Dragonspear, where a random NPC tells you about his sex change operation in the first line of dialogue.
And the game is good enough to make me want to play it all night long.

Some people accuse the developers of making Amiri a dream feminazi character to please the SJW crowd, but Amiri has existed since the beginning of Pathfinder. She was part of the "iconics" cast of characters. She already had a backstory of fighting back against men - and literally killing a bunch of them for laughing at her. The devs didn't invent this.

It pains me to say this because as a fan of DND cRPGs I wanted this to be good. But the more I play, the more I'm annoyed by how bad the combat works.

That's the thing - it doesn't work.
So much care went into crafting the world, art, music, and writing - they all seem fucking phenomenal! Unfortunately that all goes to utter waste because it's like they just copied the board-game rules verbatim without any thought whatsoever as to how an open world RPG is played.
There's no DM sitting across the table from you guiding you through the adventure - that job falls on the game designer to think - "OK, at this point in the game, where have they probably been, what kind of gear do they have, and what would be within the realm of feasibility to throw at them". The fact that the very first minor sidequest REQUIRES you to have a wizard in your party or 20 flasks of flame shows that no thought whatsoever went into the game-play system itself.
This is going down as the biggest disappointment this year by far for me.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Going by RPGCodex discussions the combat rules might not really apply properly either.
Resistances appear to be a bit messy so something that should have a damage resistance with slashing should how to describe it well reduced damage from blunt and pierce but susceptible to slashing whereas here it's resistant to slash in addition to reducing damage taken from pierce and blunt.
(Example was from some treant monster early on, you are meant to chop those down easily enough but here you are forced into using fire due to this.)
RNG is all over the place including what encounters even a low level party will run into, loot seems pretty poor and the XP reward was the example for that was against a Grizzly at 1200 XP total giving 300 XP here plus shared between the party so even less though you do get quest completion XP too.
AoE damage should also apply extra against swarms but that seems to be missing entirely and there's probably more.

Having played a little bit, yeah, the combat is pretty wonky. Even knowing ahead of time about the spider cave and coming prepared, it was still a clusterfuck. I don't know why you can't damage them with melee. That seems fucking retarded. Even if you took a to-hit penalty due to their tiny size, you should still be able to inflict some damage on them (they are tiny spiders - I'm pretty sure they squish just fine under a boot). The way it is currently also exacerbates the deficiencies of RTwP. That situation would be a lot more manageable with a turn-based approach.

Is it just me or did the reviews on Steam disappear?
I'm getting 'There are no reviews for this product' when it was mixed last time I checked.
The random encounters are bullshit btw. I thought these guys had experience making games? Because while they technically made a game, it's not much of a game if I randomly run into a couple of lichs or whatever in the world map.
I'm all for no scaling and all that, but those encounters should only happen on certain areas of the map.

Steam bug apparently.
Was interested to see if it would go to mostly negative because the amount of bullshit encounters is making me wish they had some input from a certain autist and his spreadsheets.
Also most companions appear to be shit from a usability standpoint except for barbarian lady.

Just come across and odd bug (bad crack?) I have just updated the game and my inventory is empty, completely empty. Tried reloading, makes no difference.
Uninstalled and installed the Codex vers, with no update, same issue.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Who thought walking in the rain would be a fun mechanic?
Dunno if that's in the tabletop version, but even if it was, is that really a mechanic that one should adapt into a pc game? I don't think tabletop players have to sit there and suffer as their characters walk slowly to somewhere.

At a river crossing location on the middle right side of the map (pre-barony, haven't seen how the map changes afterwards yet).
