This game <3 <3 <3

So Much Win

Bought it last week, +110 hours in already.
I just can't fucking stop playing (experimenting actually).
UI is "special" but once you got it ... it is just like Astroneer, Space Engineers and Space Station 13 had a baby.

I played a pirated version to see what it was like, the UI is definitely terrible.

The most important thing to me though is once you've spent 30 hours building a ship, what exactly is there to do with your ship?

I can't see multi but I can't imagine there are 50 player servers for pvp, and I didn't see any AI.

Well,

Ships systems aren't implemented yet (only for creative mode for now, in space)
No AI yet, but I saw Dean spawning some spider drones in a stream.
Survival mode on the Moon is the way to go for now.

Buuuut ... in the meantime once you got your Moon base built and pressurized and got your personal automated airlock up and working (already some several hours, trust me) you then can :

Build some corridors for jogging :

Build a filtration room and learn that melting ice indoor may have some consequences :

Learn that playing with some gaz mixture and fire can be dangerous :

In the other hand this can be handy for your furnace to melt ores and stuff :

Then melt all the gold you may find to assure a nice living once you get back on Earth :

Then built some cables coil :

So you can make a functional power management room :

Automate all you can with logic ships and such :

Do hydroponic things to have other stuff to eat than rocks :

Mess with chickens breading (Oh there is some AI finally !) :

Make your interiors nice looking (Mirror edge style ? ) :

Finally build a pool ... and decide if returning on Earth is still the thing you want ^^ :

So that is still some stuff to do and I am still far from all of these achievements (not all my pics)

Very Happy

It looks great in theory and I can imagine getting into the game.

But none of it has any reason, you could spend 50 hours on a ship but there is no point.

Assuming an update doesn't break your save, you couldn't bring your creation with you into another server anyway.

We currently don't know how many months or years until its worth playing multiplayer.

I loved the idea, but the fucking UI was aids. Also its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to damn complicated to do anything, i thought factorio was fun and complex but playing this i just felt tired and pointless.

Meh ill try it out one day again, maybe ill catch the bug.

the game is fun if you have your own objectives, stationeers has absolutely no intention of being entertaining on its own.
what i'm saying is.. it's both your own fault it's boring and the game. they have so many systems in the game but very little game direction even after years of development. i don't expect it to change at this point unfortunately Laughing

Sandboxes for the sake of sandboxing isnt my cup of tea, Factorio has a clear upgrade and end game, KSP has a clear upgrade and clear goals to accomplish, Stormworks is complex and timeconsuming and i kind of hate it but the career helped a bunch, this game giving the UI and the lack of career or end game (as far as i remember) didnt appeal to me, the simulation and how it works did, but the damn ui gave me a headache.

After DSP I was jonesing for some more automation action and saw that this one was recently updated, so might as well try it. It's awesome. Very Happy

The game keeps throwing these life-or-death problems at you in a good enough pace, and it gives you all the tools needed to overcome them. I can build some janky contraption that requires constant supervision or it over-pressurises/over-heats/etc, or I can design a solution that needs one switch to turn it on and I can let it run forever. Incredibly satisfying.

I'm about to start making a better furnace setup. Manually inserting H2 and O2 ice at night is getting a bit bothersome. Razz

Actually,

I was playing this game again when "everyone else" were playing Dyson Sphere thingy.
It hooked me for several dozen of hours... Again.
I own this game almost from the very start of development and yes it has (slowly but definitely) evolved a lot.

Liquids are coming along nicely.

And yes, once you built a rather automated base with solar panels control, hydroponics, gaz mixing, temperature and such, and all this with logic chip at first and then with IC with your own (or workshop) code ... What a satisfaction Smile

Hell there is even a cute programable mining robot now, Aimee !

Just checked Aimee in the pedia, and I am FAAAR from having the resources to build one. Very Happy

Just finished building a gas filtration setup, and it took me quite a bit to make it run continuously and not over pressurize. And then I finally got around to building a more comfortable furnace, so now I can operate it with just a couple switches (input pump, venting valve and the igniter/ejector on the furnace itself). The problem was that the fuel came from electrolyzing water which turned out to be a massive power drain, so I had to replace all of the main line with heavy cables since it kept frying the weaker wires if I made fuel while the air was being filtered. Razz

With that I finally managed to make some invar, and I can see that the next step is an advanced furnace.

I already built one a day or so ago, but it kept exploding in my face, so I went back to the old one and made that one work instead. Razz

I can already tell that my next game will be using that 50 ore/node mod. Looking for ore is more of a time sink than a challenge, and I enjoy building more than the rather janky terrain deformation mechanic. Razz

yeah exploration in stationeers is not interesting at all - it needs work.. would be nice if we could set up asteroid mining or trade / something consistent.
in base building games i really prefer the factorio approach where you find one vein and it lasts basically forever, but you have to improve the yield through chains of machines.

was hoping they'd implement some objectives but it smells a lot like dayz feature creep with no game loop planned Embarassed

I have no idea why the advanced furnace kept blowing up earlier. Now I moved my normal furnace fuel setup to the advanced one and it works like a charm. Managed to make some Astroloy, so the first thing I built was obviously a mining-bot. Now I just need to figure out what kind of code I need on the IC chip so it can work on its own.

It's a real shame that the usual youtube tutorials are abysmal for this game. Seems the most prolific YTer is really bad at presenting, having a REAL thick accent and monotone delivery. I honestly cannot tell if his guides are any good because I can never get through a single video. Razz

Started fiddling with the IC programming a bit. Managed to make a half-decent weather alarm ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2407392235 ). I found that a simple countdown timer wasn't attention grabbing enough, but a couple flashing lights and blaring klaxons should do the trick. Razz

BTW, is there an easy way to make the code skip un-set device slots? I tried to see if this code would work by leaving out one or more devices and the code kept stopping whenever it tried to send an on/off signal to an empty slot on the chip housing.

I know I could make it work with one of those "branch to this line if device is set" commands but I'd need to make a flow chart to make sense of it. Razz

Also, is the "path to target" command broken for the mining robot? I downloaded the code written by Dean and it kept stopping whenever the bot's container was full. Changed it to "move to target" and now it worked (meaning if it can beeline straight to dropoff there's nothing in the way that would make "pathing" impossible).

And I just had a great moment in-game. I went out to check on my bot and it was nowhere to be found. It usually operated in a big open area with lots of resources. I checked in nearby holes but no luck. I assumed it glitched through the terrain. Then I remembered that there was a remote logic transmitter thingy. I build one, tuned it to the robot, attached 2 reader chips to see the XY positions, and managed to find it in a ditch on the other side of the base. Very Happy I assume it was blown away by a storm and its batteries got drained as it tried to climb out. Razz

There's always a solution in this game. Smile
