We would like to assure you that we have done extensive testing with the software and that its implementation with Before the Storm has no impact on PC resources. You should therefore not see any performance related issues as a result of Denuvo.

Yea Right Rolling Eyes

Rime says hi.

Can't wait for a crack so we can fully see it First hand .

Worse than the original in almost every aspect.
Also shit performance, tho it looks like he played it on XBox so probably just crappy devs, not Denuvo at fault here Cool Face

Damn, that really sounds underwhelming Okay
It was to be expected since it's an outsourced project, but cheaper direction, writing and even less gameplay than the original game (not an easy task to achieve) is a remarkable combo in its own way. The weirdest thing though is that in order to "improve" the visuals and animations, they switched from UE3 to...Unity. A baffling move to put it mildly Razz

Here's hoping the full-fledged sequel will use UE4 instead, it's the perfect framework for this type of game as long as there's someone who can invest resources on proper facial animations (very much needed here).

Feature wise Unity is cheaper while besting UE3 in terms of visual fidelity (Or well, features, it's up the devs to use it right.) and being multi-platform compatible with modern consoles, which was probably a important factor.

Against UE4 though it would probably have been a bit harder to set up but done right it would likely have provided some really neat visuals while also being compatible with modern consoles though I don't know who developed this and Square used to be a bit indifferent to PC until more recently so that could have been a issue for the PC port of the game.

Not that Unity is much better on PC I suppose, stuttering and poor utilization of the GPU and CPU can be a issue for some games which I guess comes down to poor default configurations of the engine and it's up to the devs to then fine tune it to suit the game they're developing specifically, but most seem to just leave these settings at default because fuck it, more work. Razz (Well that's probably not entirely true but certainly feels like it at times.)

So you have Unity as a base for which the developers can build their project on but then don't fully fine tune and optimize and you have UE4 which fares pretty much the same though far as personal experiences go when you have a developer studio that knows what they're doing UE3 and UE4 could really shine whereas on Unity this doesn't seem to be as common although there's a flood of indie low-budget Unity efforts now whereas UE4 has fewer overall licensed projects and actual game releases.

Eh, it's down to the devs to do it right I guess which both Unity and UE4 are capable of but then there's budget and time constraints from the publisher and on PC UE4 in particular seem to lean a bit more towards Nvidia GPU's than AMD so optimization is probably not the easiest. (But you have a ton of tools and a massive community to draw from plus a open source engine code base and more whereas on Unity the core engine changes seem to be coming only from new builds though switching over to a new engine build isn't as difficult but still a bit of work.)

Bit of a wall of text at this point, going by the screenshots the visuals mostly match the original UE3 game but it probably has some of the Unity quirks too such as periodic stutter and at worst frame drops from poor hardware utilization and overall optimization woes.

EDIT: Well I don't have special knowledge on either engine I guess, it's a combination of factors and in this case both engines are highly customizable for what the developers might want to do with it and both have a pretty active community creating assets and more or contributing code and other utilities which is likely especially useful for smaller studios.

Both have their share of pitfalls too I suppose, Unity releases new builds frequently fixing what looks like tons of issues even for smaller engine updates let alone the notes for major revisions but Unreal 4 makes some pretty major updates too and upgrading to a newer UE4 build is probably more work overall.
(But that could probably be discussed endlessly and this topic is focused on the game and not the underlying engine said game is using. Very Happy )

I tried the first one but just could not stand the annoying dialect/slang of those spoilt American teenagers, could not even get past the bit in the school. Hopefully this one will have better, less annoying voice actors

Ah yeah Unity did have some flaw with the D didn't it?

Speaking of the D the game has a whole box of them. Razz

Loved the first game, really like this one. The conversations are enjoyably written, the (main) characters very likeable. It's fun RPing Chloe, especially with the new insulting mechanic. Still a bit cringy at times but that is part of the charm. Wink No performance problems whatsoever on "hella great" graphics settings.

A shame that the time travel mechanics obviously had to go but the game works very well without it. Looking forward to the next episodes.

Standard edition - all 3 episodes.
Deluxe edition - all 3 episodes + a farewell episode. Play one last time as a young Max Caulfield in a special bonus episode.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
