Yeah it's IDTech6, although it's not developed by ID (id?) and not every UE3 or more recently UE4 game does as well as Epic's own releases to compare against something so there's that possibility but since Bethesda owns idSoftware and are publishing this they might have closer ties to it's development and troubleshooting.
(Similar to say Frostbite for EA, not that it always helped but still.)
EDIT: And for "reds" Vulkan should at least ensure this is playable on AMD GPU's now instead of being, "rough" (Putting it mildly.) like Wolf NO and Wolf OB were, although it was fixed in later drivers though the games didn't receive that many patches as I remember.
(OGL 4.x over 3.x should help a bit too for that API as well so that's also a improvement.)
I don't like this kind of shit in my games and I just say it out loud. LOL at the reactions.
Well Wolfenstein New Order is pretty much where BJ got some actual personality and there was more story development even if it's very over the top, this basically just continues from what happened in those games although you're back in the US now instead of America and apparently some 90+ wrinkly old scientist wasn't a big deal for the Nazi party since they already won the war several years back.
I do wonder if they'll give more info on Hitler though, he's somewhat of a zombie after the events of RtCW and Wolf2009 which are semi-canon in this story though I doubt he'll show up quad-wielding Gatling guns.
...WolfNO is also where B.J finally got some action which the game reminded you about like 3 or 4 times over the course of the story, well that's understandable I suppose.
(So no wonder he's a bit protective about that going by this reveal trailer though going by said trailer she knows how to handle herself still, ha ha.)
Also wonder if every major story event will be a poorly compressed cut-scene again, hopefully not and hopefully that can save a bit of file size since idTech and it's texture system still takes a crap ton of disk space.
(Well there was a few shorter in-game ones too.)
Spoiler:
And this is also why you ensure the damn Nazi is actually dead before you proceed, should have dealt with Frau Engel back in the camp in Wolf:NO instead of just ruining Bubbi's chance of ever getting blown but nope.
(Well Bubbi got dealt with at least but now Frau Engel is some axe-crazed "Yandere" type instead, or well even more of one ha ha.)
A quick look back will show a story about mysticism, supernatural beings (demons) and the involvement of Himmler (and his - perhaps - Ahnenerbe division - in-game spin-off as a supernatural research group), led, of course, by his passion for occultism.
So, throughout the game there was no Amerika fuk yea leitmotif, though.
I know this is a spin-off, a different version of the old reality, but - for me - this is just way too... "in your face"! Not that I actually care much, though.
Does it use the same engine as Doom? If so: Insta buy.
First of all: as I said already, I loved TNO and I'm surely gonna play this. And I also loved DooM (bought it in fact)
But... am I the only one that thinks idTech6 is not very good?
The "megatextures" tech, in particular, forces the textures to be so compressed that the whole scenery looks like it has been put through some bad JPEG compression... snow effect and blurry edges everywhere.
And reflections are nothing to write home about either, they have that "plastic shiny" look that immediately makes me think of ps3/x360 era games.
It is very lightweight tho, that can't be denied. But visual impact is not on par with some other more modern stuff imho.
I'm not so annoyed about potential agendas in video games and I usually avoid going there with the discussion, but the commentary on this video was kinda annoying if not disgusting.
But... am I the only one that thinks idTech6 is not very good?
Yeah, you are the only one, because everyone else thinks idTech is complete and utter crap. Seriously though even in most recent idTech games (DOOM, Dishonored 2) textures are mediocre at best. Fun made retextures of Quake1 would wipe the floor with this laughable tech. IMO this engine (which is probably not capable of good textures without wasting terabytes of space) should die already.
idTech6 managing 60 FPS on the current consoles was probably the main target, originally Carmack planned something like 30 FPS I believe back when discussing what would follow after Rage and the future of idTech5 but since he left the new idTech6 was probably rewritten extensively.
Performance is damn good though but visually it does retain some of the tricks in idTech5 but it's not completely static which is a fairly big improvement at least.
EDIT: As for Dishonored and VOID I do wonder how that engine tech looks, probably branched off pretty far from the old idTech5 code so it's more of it's own engine by now.
Though yeah pure texture quality wise you would probably expect idTech5 and 6 to have the best looking textures ever what with 50%+ of the total file size usually being dedicated solely to Megatexture(tm) archives, tiling and repeating textures are minimized and the streaming is fairly effective but overall texture detail isn't all that spectacular for how many GB's of data said textures actually take up.
EDIT: Still better than Fallout 4's 50+ GB texture pack though, far as I've seen at least.
(Well it's nice to have options I guess, ha ha.)
