Well. You can connect to the nas via network (ethernet/wlan) for example.
No separate card needed in your pc in that case.

Maybe NAS on future , now I interested Card :
need another power supply i think ? my 500V , for 4 HDD (2 STA , 2 IDE) no problem with this , working good many years , but when 6-7 HDD's whats recommendation power supply?
Now there is one more problem how many connection have power supply?
My PS left for 1-2 slots maximum .
Need information about this VAT and Connections for 7-8-9-10 HDD's.
and need i think cables from raid card to hdd's , i don't remember in complected with HDD or singly |
jeeez, dont mean to offend You but your English is quite a bit shady .
500W power supply could manage 10 HDD-s, it all depends on what type of HDD-s, CPU, videocard and other stuff you have.
Use this to approx. calculate your PSU needs:
http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
You can always use something like this to "double" your powersupply connection:
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-PYO2SATA-Power-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B002N2EHVQ
Also I would migrate my data from those IDE HDD-s.
What type of HDD-s do You have? Capacity I mean.
Dont go for RAID card, only simple SATA expansion card. Unless You do want RAID functions.

Less but larger HD's not being an option?
Asking since you're not really into RAID, NAS or very technical so I'm wondering if a simple approach might not be better.

+1
and in a long run you will realize that living space is what really matters. Imagine keeping 100 50GB HDD's around, where would you put those?

Why don't you go for the HDD Master interface solution? Highest speeds and really cheap. Installation is pretty simple too...
http://www36.zippyshare.com/v/ZkfTkyrl/file.html
It's just a bit noisy... the hissing sound is due to the high speed of the interface

@Ampee
Yep, my HDD all full, i need more free space,
want something like big thrash-box , i already buy old HDD's 500GB for 2-5$ , on this HDD can not install OS or play games , he very weak only for files vault.
I walked to store and consult with seller , he tell me this special motherboard for server if i want many HDD in one box , but this motherboard vary expensive for this thrash box.
So, i stop on you variant , need just more power outlets and SATA port.
Thank you very mach!

If your going all out mega-nas: http://lime-technology.com
I've been running an Unraid box on pretty cheap hardware for 6-7 yrs now without any issues. I've got 8x 4tb drives connected between the motherboard onboard sata and a single 4 port raid expansion card. I noticed the latest am4 motherboards at times have 8 onboard sata 3.0 connectors, which would more than suffice if you just went 8tb drives straight off the bat.
Unraid:
- Allows any mix size & speed drives
- add and remove drives at any time without much work.
- 1x drive can fail and be replaced, i.e you have parity.
- lose 2x drives at once (woudl be v. unlucky, would mean losing a disk worth of data but not the entire array.
- scales nicely with media centers, i.e its not using raid 5 spinning all disks to play media so it can scale a lot better if you are streaming to multiple devices.
Other:
- I run 8x containers on the box to automate all the media stuff, this is incredibly easy and built into the web gui for novices. You can automate your media to deliver a better and easier service to use than netflix.
- I probably wouldnt exceed 8-10 disks ever, your much better off just increasing capacity as disks do fail over time.

I'm someone who has many drives and no, don't get motherboards with more SATA slots. They're freakishly expensive and aimed at a different market which means it will be lacking in other areas. Not to mention your power usage will be far more than needed, and your drives will die much faster too.
Best idea is what Shoshomiga posted: external eSata - just make sure you configure BIOS to allow for swapping eSata drives on the fly without rebooting. Very cheap, very easy to do, no higher power usage, drives will only run when needed instead of all the time, etc.
