We know there’s been questions swirling around the upcoming DLC:The Crimson Court, and today we wanted to give you all a little insight into the carnivorous chaos that will come to the Estate.
Crimson Court is a parallel campaign experienced alongside the main Darkest Dungeon content that will provide you with new challenges at every difficulty level. The narrative grounding sheds some light on the Ancestor’s early days, and will be presented in the same style of cutscenes you’ve seen elsewhere in the game.
As the Crimson Curse spreads unrelentingly over the estate, parties will battle new enemies in familiar regions, as well as setting foot in a completely new sprawling environment: the Courtyard. There, amidst unique curios, traps and obstacles, a complete faction of new blood-crazed foes lie in wait, overseen by three distinct boss encounters. These slavering enemies and epic encounters will introduce new combat mechanics, testing the limits of your favourite strategies.
As the infestation grows, and your roster begins to sicken, the Fanatic will emerge to roam the hallways, confusing friend and foe alike in his zealous quest to exterminate the Curse.
The odds are not completely stacked against you, however! A new playable hero class will be added alongside powerful new trinkets, town events, and a fresh way to expand and upgrade your Hamlet.
At Red Hook, we’re working as hard as possible to deliver an exceptional DLC experience – one that enriches and expands the core game. Our mantra is that the addition of Crimson Court represents the canonical way to experience Darkest Dungeon, and we can’t wait to deliver it to you. We’d hoped to get it out earlier this year, but opted to delay in order to pack additional value into the free ‘Radiant’ update. We’re looking at releasing the Crimson Court in Late May/Early June, and will keep you all up to date as work progresses. Quality is our first priority, hence why we cannot confirm an exact date just yet.
So, as you enjoy a glass of red wine this weekend, listen for the cries of your infected parties ring out from the time-shrouded mists of the Hamlet…

| Quote: | Darkest Dungeon’s first expansion, The Crimson Court, is scheduled for release on PC/Mac/Linux (Steam, GoG, Humble, Twitch) on June 19th 2017, and will cost $9.99 USD. We do not have a hard date for PSN owners, but we are targeting the following month. Inevitable issues result from releasing to a wide audience, and we want to make sure our console build benefits from the hotfixes we’ll be pushing to Steam as issues are discovered. (It’s a longer process to release hotfixes on PSN.)
At Red Hook, we’re working around the clock on the exciting new content and features that will be coming to Hamlet next month. Drawing hands are sore, spreadsheets are bursting with data, and eyes are blurry, but our own excitement is pushing us ever forward! We’ve been pretty tight-lipped on details but we’ll be revealing more information in the coming weeks including screenshots, boss teases, and a comprehensive look at the new class.
In case you’ve missed some of the earlier announcements on what to expect, let’s recap:
- A new hero class. “Awash in blood and delusion, they bear the burden of a thousand lifetimes.”
- A new wandering boss: The Fanatic
- A new dungeon region: The Courtyard
- A full faction of new deadly foes
- 4 new, unique Courtyard Bosses with some of the most complex and devious mechanics yet.
- Massive, sprawling maps with locked doors, prisoner rooms, and progress saves
- Districts: New prestige buildings that offer permanent, estate-wide bonuses
- Lore-driven trinket sets for all heroes – with set bonuses!

$10 is a bit steep for what essential boils down to 1 dungeon, 1 class, and some itemization changes...considering the original game, at $20, had 15 classes and 5 dungeons.
And that's coming from someone that has over 150 hours in the game and adores it.
They're asking too much for too little here.

It's gotta keep you on your toes. The best laid plans of mice and men...
It doesn't bother me so much. As long as you have good team composition, plan your attacks right, don't push your team too far, and bring adequate supplies - almost everything is surmountable. Sure, you'll get that oddly catastrophic moment where one guy will get crit 3x in a row, but that rarely happens.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the RNG in this game isn't usually hard/unfair just for the sake of it (like in many other games) - it merely punishes the player when mistakes have already been made on his part.

Well, for one, I love this game, but this Darkest Dungeon stuff is just silly.
I just finished the 3rd level of it, and I can't do the 4th, since I have no lvl 5/6 heroes left that do no have the "Never Again" perk.
End result: I have to grind some nobodies to these levels from scratch.
I have more gold that I'm ever gonna need, all my shit is upgraded to the max, so it's neither a challenge nor a pleasure, just a dumb chore, and a profoundly flawed mechanic just there to add some extra length with no substance.
I'm not gonna do it, it's gonna be a complete bore, and that's a game killer for me.

None of my heroes died in the DD, but those 3 teams were my a-teams (well, depending on the need of a particular dungeon).
My problem is not with death here, but rather with the fact that I'll have to level up an entire roster of 8 dudes (to be on the safe side) just to do the very last boss (everything else is done, except the countess in the courtyard, but since I got no invite (those pesky little dudes don't show up, low chaos/infection I'd wager, since I just wasted that Viscount cunt).
So yeah, that is a complete and utter bore for me.
Once you lived through the second dungeon of the DD, going back to roaming the cove with lvl 0 characters is pretty much "meh" in the best of occasions, won't you agree?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/702540/Darkest_Dungeon_The_Shieldbreaker/
RELEASE DATE: 26 Oct, 2017
| Quote: | “And all around is the desert; a corner of the mournful kingdom of sand.”
-Pierre Loti
Hailing from the distant windswept dunes of the east, the Shieldbreaker arrives in the Hamlet! Deadly as a viper, her iron will has been forged in the heat of the blazing desert sun. Though outwardly demure, her emancipation from the barren wastes came at a price so terrible, it haunts her dreams even now...
Features:
- New hero class:]the Shieldbreaker
- Dynamic, tactical skill set for the Shieldbreaker featuring all new combat mechanics including:[/b] Armor Piercing, Guard Break, and Stealth
- Shieldbreaker class-specific trinkets, including a Shieldbreaker set for Crimson Court
- 3 New Monsters - frightful illusions from the Shielbreaker's origin, now slithering forward to infest the Estate
- New Consumable Item - Aegis Scale, providing a last bastion of protection for when a hero truly needs it.
The Shieldbreaker is a powerful ally in the fight to reclaim the Estate and banish the evil that squats in the Darkest Dungeon. A highly-tactical hero with solid DPS, she truly excels when countering monsters with high protection and those who guard their allies. Her movement, speed, and targeted abilities make her a valuable ally for dismantling intractable monster groups. Though relatively low health, the Shieldbreaker is yet highly survivable in short bursts thanks to her Aegis shield. |

| Quote: | Darkest Dungeon: The Color of Madness DLC
With five feeble senses we pretend to comprehend the boundlessly complex cosmos…”
-HP Lovecraft
Some hateful shard of alien origin has streaked through the night sky, crashing into the old Miller’s farm on the outskirts of the Hamlet! Those unfortunate enough to witness the Comet’s arrival have been blinded by what they can only describe as a shifting, ephemeral hue of damnably abrasive intensity. There has been no word from the farm in a fortnight, save for the unearthly groaning that echoes from the ruin of the mill…
- A New Quest Type: Get lost in time and space as you confront unending waves of enemies, new and old, pushing ever closer to the crash site of the Comet. Survive as long as you can stomach, and compare your highest kill count with friends and rivals alike!
- A New Enemy Faction: The husks of the Miller and his farmhands roam the area around the windmill, spreading the all-consuming influence of the Comet’s light.
- Powerful New Trinkets: Visit the Nomad Wagon and spend Comet Shards to purchase trinkets with new and powerful functionality.
The team at Red Hook is thrilled to continue to support Darkest Dungeon with this latest DLC. We’re committed to providing our new and veteran players alike with the very best in all-consuming misery and morbidity. The Color of Madness DLC is planned for a spring release, and pricing information will follow in the new year.
