Closing in on the 3 hour mark. Game is pretty great so far. Some pro's.
Man their is a lot of content so far. I've found 11 unique weapons in my 3 hours of time. SKA have told me there are over 600 pieces of weapons, armors, and spells.
Each weapon has a unique moveset of 5-10 moves. You can also 2 hand which is a whole new set of moves.
Weapons feel great especially the heavy weapon's feel immensely satisfying. Crashing down, and impaling a zombie feels amazing. Bodies, body parts, and blood will fly, and it all feels really good.
The game so far is good at making you feel fairly weak at the start, but making you feel stronger, and stronger over time. Quite a bit of backtracking
You can parry bosses
Game world is really big so far. Lots of full out areas to go, and explore. If you're having trouble with an area there is always another one you can visit.
For a 2D side scroller it feels surprisingly overwhelming. World feels large, and quite interconnected.
Lots of similarities to the Dark Souls series to even little things like weapon scaling, Covenants and weight effecting movement. Surprising similarities to DeS in non gameplay elements such as NPC's, to a locations name and look.
it's all about timing with the combat. It's nowhere near as fast as their Dishwasher games, it's got slower pace. Stamina runs out fast, attacks are much slower. Its much more of a focus on defense/rolling. You'll also get punished hard if you try the classic run to the boss.
A few cons
First 2 bosses felt pretty weak to me. They felt hard for the sake of being hard. Especially after the half way point they can land pretty cheap blows. First boss has some weird hit boxes with it's attacks. I didn't enjoy fighting them.
Soundtrack is sadly for the most part very weak so far. First 2 boss themes repeat the same theme too.
Upgrade tree is a bit of a pain to navigate. It feels way too large, unorganized. Causes a bit of confusion.
This is a first impression. Game's quality is improving significantly over time. I'm excited to see how crazy this gets towards the end. I've been told by SKA the game has
well iirc in one of the devs streams tehy said , the steam release depends on Sony and as soon as Sony let them to release it they will release it (but as of now it looks like +-3 months of exclusivity).
So my guess is they will release VAmpire Smile DC in April/MAy and SaS in May/June
I'm loving it so far. The only thing I don't like are the human character designs, they look like some kind of human/frog hybrids. Got to the first boss and he's surprisingly difficult and made me alt+f4 rage quit.
Now this is a pleasant surprise. I just arrived at home, downloaded it (small releases are a blessing for my prehistoric connection), and played for a couple of hours. It really is good
A 2D Dark Souls (lite) done right, it feels polished, responsive (even with mouse and keyboard), rewarding, and simply fun to play, with the obvious differences because of the bi-dimensional exploration. Everything else is 99% familiar, in a pleasant way. You have stamina management, two main attacts (that can be combined), yer trusty flasks, multi-layered levels, tough bosses, the developers nailed it.
My complaint so far is the same as Randir's, with the characters themselves looking a tad off/ridiculous, though the art-style in general is well done and 'grim' enough to provide a fitting atmosphere.
edit:
Regarding the first boss, the best approach for me was to just embrace the two-handed sword stance, and roll through him whenever he was about to strike (you can tell by the animation), worked wonders

Yeah, he's actually quite a bit like Iudex Gundyr. Forces you to get into the playstyle of the game. Nothing wrong with the 2 first bosses unlike what the NeoFAG said.
Really loving this game so far! I agree that the washed out colors kinda suck, and the weird choice of frog/fish as a main character, but at last, like in souls game, you face doesnt really matter much because you'll have a helmet covering it, well at last in my case!
I just kinda wish there was a map, gets kinda confusing after a while, more when you have to backtrack to an old location. 2D games are a lot harder to navigate then 3D games.
Started yesterday, played about 3hours, beat 5-6 bosses. Really fun!
PS It looks like it's just 2 developers so I can understand why they did it but it WILL harm their reputation and sales..

"Really, really bad localization - Because we were changing text up until the last second before certification, in-game text is currently automatically translated in other languages with spot checks on key terminology. We were required to get all the store text translated for real but for some reason, in-game text being "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" levels of translation was "fine" for launch. We're planning to patch in launching in only English with a menu option to select a langauge (in case you really wanted to see the bad loc for some reason), then patch in the true localization when we have it finished."
Yeah..they just had to lock the only proper mage covenant behind all these disappearing platforms requiring jumping and dash jumping and double jumping..
If you think Ori and blind forest was bad then you are wrong
