still he wont get much money from that cause acclaim (or whoever bought them) gets most of it. free turokex launcher without gamefiles + donation button would have been better for him

Didn't Night Dive buy the rights?
Anyway, there is a fanbase for this game, I don't know if it's big enough. You could wait for a discount, I'm sure it will be at 10e rather soon like Strife:Veteran Edition.

Not bad, seeing how the devs probably only had minimal work to do. |
4 years spent to decompile, reverse engineer and reimplement from scratch a game with no access to source code is "minimal work" now?

never said that, but it uses the original game files/assets. its basicly the same as doom64ex, which also just uses the original n64 files into a self written runtime environment

It's fun. I'm using the knife almost exclusively and jump+slashing like a proper wild man.

I know what you meant, but Doom64 Ex I believe transforms some files from one format to some other that it can understand in order to work.
So I assume it's the same case here and without the transformation step it won't be possible.
Hence why I am joking "it's not a emulator" that you can feed N64 as is.
Not to mention we don't know if he used the N64 files or the PC ones (level design should be identical so there's a good chance he used the PC ones).

Played the first level and the game is great! My previous experience with the Turok franchise was playing T1 for 15 minutes in someone else's house in the early 2000s.
Controls very fast, you no longer get lost because you can see where you are going, the new AI that takes into account the lack of fog is aggressive (well not always), the level I played was surprisingly open and big and it has this much first person platforming to make Valve's Xen mappers blush.
From what I played it seems that the game has aged wonderfully and you forget about the dated graphics (with great comic-y smooth animations though!) in an instant. Highly recommended.

Yes, yes, noticed it! Also in the training it said to do jumps while strafing mid-air!

iirc it's not because it was on n64, but turok was pretty much the only game in existence with some fucked up sense of physics (and also human anatomy) where moving diagonally is faster than straight ahead or to the side in a pythagorean way

That movement is standard in Doom and Quake engines. Probably more.

Indeed, the game still delivers, it's shame that they don't make 'em like this anymore *sad panda*
I've got only one complaint, regarding the hit-detection which is a tad too approximative (it's understandable though), the rest is fun in its fast-paced way.
Also, Normal difficulty is way too easy, at least Hard is recommended in my opinion to have some sort of challenge.

the biggest "problem" of this version is the view distance, makes the game multiple times easier

Very true . The AI should have been tuned accordingly, since enemies always try to use the surprise buttsecs technique , but without the deep fog, it ain't working no more and they can be easily 'sniped'.
Oh well, no biggie. Still ten thousand times more entertaining than [inserts cinematic nextgen derpsauce]

i'll be checking out the original verison with nglide then, if gameplay intended by the devs is broken in this one.

tbh i dont think it was really intended by the devs, they had to use that heavy and close fog due to the system limitations of the n64 cause they didnt want to cut down the polygon count etc

No need. You can re-enable the fog in the gameplay options in the new version. But you really don't want to do that
Personally I think the AI is fine. I could do without the respawning though.
Just finished 2nd level! It was great!

There's an option for that as well in the gameplay menu I think. Projectile collision: default / precise. It defaults to.. default. Unless they mean something different than what I think.

Apparently the enemies only respawn a set amount of times but the higher speed of the game now means they respawn faster and since they do not always drop ammo you risk running low on supplies if you try to clear the level so it is better to be fast and avoid getting stuck with quickly respawning fodder enemies like grunts and raptors.
Also due to a limitation or oversight with the new engine any explosion will work to reach the semi hidden minigun on the second level instead of having to wait until you get the grenade launcher on the fourth level or other explosive weaponry besides TEC arrows and red shotgun shells.

they fixed something with the respawn values now -> Turok.Update.1-BAT
changelog
Spoiler: | An update for Turok is available now. It contains the following fixes:
Changelist for 12/18/2015
•Safeguard checks for initializing video. Will fall back to starting the game in windowed mode if it is unable to create a window for fullscreen mode
•Head bobbing options implemented
•Possible fix for a crash when loading a level or loading from a save file
•Tremor effects no longer affects the player's velocity (won't be doing short hops)
•Animation speeds for AI on Hard and Hardcore difficulties have been toned way down
•Changing the difficulty in the gameplay menu now automatically updates all active AI, where before they would change their behavior only after revisiting the level (which was a bug).
•Fixed crash with moving platforms in level 8 bonus stage.
•Several minor updates to levels (wood pillars in Jungle all moves down rather than moving up. Looks silly with extended draw distance enabled as they all look like they're floating).
•Clamped XY coordinates in light scatter shader. This fixes very bad rendering artifacts caused by the shader in certain graphics drivers.
Head Bobbing Options:
This menu can be found in Options->Gameplay->Head Bobbing Options. The following options are:
•Head Bobbing - Toggles all bobbing while walking/running on ground and jumping.
•Turn Bobbing - Toggles the rolling of the view camera when turning (on land and in water).
•Adjust View To Slopes - Toggles your view being aligned to the floor surface that you're standing on.
•Underwater Bobbing - Toggles all bobbing related to being on water and underwater.
AI Updates:
•The timing on how long it takes for AI to respawn has been heavily re-factored now. It will take roughly 15-30 seconds for them to begin fading out and another 10-15 seconds for them to begin respawning. Its still randomized but there should be a longer delay before they start respawning though it really depends on their configuration in the levels.
•The speeds of the AI has been lowered for the harder difficulties and they will be instantly updated if the difficulty option has been changed in the gameplay menu. The issue with them not updating until that level was revisited has led to a lot of confusion regarding to the broken nature of the AI and speed of the game. |
