No DRM and small size means quick release.

Being able to finally play the 1.0 version of the game feels undoubtedly odd, but it's a very pleasant sensation.
I wanted to wait (ironically) because of the too many games too little time syndrome, though it was stronger than me and couldn't resist so I grabbed the iso. Seems very solid. The huge focus on dialogues is somewhat refreshing, as you can generate an outcome that strictly depends on your stats/approach. I can already see a strong choice->consequence system shaping up nicely, a rarity these days which encourages multiple playthroughs.
The Torque engine is vintage as hell, but not too distractingly bad in my opinion (I didn't mind it in Dead State either), the writing is good and the combat requires a lot of attention (the intro didn't lie, being brutally sandwiched is a common occurrence )
However I decided to go for the talkative praetorian, so at least I can be a slimy Lord Varys. Will play more in the next days, if I manage to inflate my gaming hours a bit *grr*

I'm playing a full on combat character for a change, it's extremely difficult but also very satisfying.
Fighting Lord Antidas with the Imperial Guards is tense as fuck at the end of the first chapter (if you go the guards route). You have to strategically flank and take out individual enemies whilst trying to keep enough legionaries alive to help you finish the rest off.

As you are combat focused, a question:
Will you get more (permament) party members, or is this a solo game with just your character most of the time?

Solo, but you often get allies in some of the more "epic" fights. In a lot of the imperial guard quests for example you usually have a squad of legionnaires fighting alongside you.

Indeed, the combat way sounds just as good as the diplomatic one, you're tempting me Steelone. So far I have managed to avoid all the fights, and as a result the game has never been challenging. It really begs for a second playthrough, Sliding-Doors mode!

I wish they'd make more Roman themed games, or fall of Romans themed games. I have a hard on for anything Roman. SO WTF is up with that power armor's head.
Anyway now that I'm mostly done Witchering, time to get on this.

So, how's version 1.00? How many patches should I wait for before actually starting to play this game?

Not experienced any issues so far. The game was in early access for a long time and got pretty thoroughly tested.
Just got a pretty cool permanent elixir on my combat play through, reduces max HP by 5 permanently but gives me 1 HP regen per round and makes me completely regenerate health after combat.

| Quote: | Murderous Psychopaths Needed
How would you like to immortalize your fighter and bring pain on thousands of players who'd curse your name with their characters' dying breath?
Our next update will add several title challengers. You see, being the Arena Champion doesn't mean that the title is yours forever and ever. It will attract those who seek fame - who wouldn't want to brag that they killed the champion and stomped him into the mud?
So if you're a murderous psychopath with at least 100 confirmed kills, post your combat build (character screen and inventory). We'll select the most interesting builds and faithfully recreate them down to the hair style. Maybe we can even talk our artist into drawing a custom portrait (based on the hair style not what you look like in real life) to capture that murderous fire in your eyes and Vince into writing a backstory.
- We'll keep the looks, stats, and skills.
- We might change the name to be more lore friendly. I'm sure that Balls Stomper is a great name but...
- We'll keep the equipment except for unique weapons and sky metal. Crafted equipment will keep their crafting level but it will be done with blue steel instead of sky metal. Uniques will be replaced by crafted weapons or new uniques.
- The challengers will be able to use poison, sharpened weapons, neurostymulants, antidotes, nets and bolas.
Looking forward to your submissions. |

What is wrong with this game? I start the tutorial and i enter a fight...the other guy, literally, dodges ALL my attacks and he crits, cripples and bleeds me to death every single time!!

Don't forget to use your skill points. They are EXTREMELY important. If you max out a weapon, you should easily get to 80% hit chance with the starting armor.

Map sucks.
Quest log sucks, difficult to keep track on.
Too short.
Inventory sucks.
Camera angles suck.
No boobs.
On the plus side:
Skillpoints actually matter.
Story is okayish.
Verdict: It's worth playing. At least once.

Indeed, this is the way. Spending points and also spending them properly, focusing on one precise style of play. It's also vital to move a lot and vary the attacks, or the AI will adapt and dodge them every single time. The tutorial in this game is one of the most powerful patience tests ever designed.

Story shits on Pillars of Eternity IMO.
This is how you do it Obsidian dude who was in charge of the writing / reviewed the writing or whatever. Let the player discover the truth behind the legends, not have some guy spoon feed it.

Indeed, the game contains multiple "main" quest lines. An Imperial Guard play through for example is completely different to an Assassin.
You meet completely different characters and have completely different objectives.

As an RPG player who loves deep character systems, game worlds with rich lore, nebulous and amoral situations, deep reactivity and interesting quest design, The Age of Decadence doesn't just meet the bar, it leaves some of the best and classic CRPGs in the dust. And as much as I can complain and nit-pick about what the game does or doesn't do, I find myself constantly coming back to it, just to try the same scenarios again as a different character, or to see if I can win a challenging fight, and ten times through, I'm still finding new locations, events and characters - that's the sign of a great RPG to me.”

Damn. Every time I play - I discover more.
Is there one true good ending?
Last time I got to a point where I could chose Spoiler: | between two gods - that possessed Meru guy and pyramid god guy. |
The impact of choices on story is massive. I've never seen anything like this game.
