I started doing some calligraphy since I got my Pilot Parallel pens and ink, so I figured I'd brag here and there. If you want, be free to brag about your art in any form

The background is an HDRI image on the inner side of a sphere as a light emitter, but the phone and table are 3D. The texture on the table is the first wood texture on google images, I also used it for the bump map and then played with the fresnel shader on the reflection channel. The phone is modeled and textured from scratch and without any blueprint.
To make it as realistic as possible I put several layers of my glass material on the planes that would be the display, because that is how the phone was actually set up (capacitive screen with a display layer, touch layer on top and glass to cover it.
And I added some bump to the surface, so that the reflections don't look too shiny. Basically I just looked at my phone and at the screen until it looked similar
At the end some photoshop for chromatic abbreviation and toning

Well, the first 'layer' - letters, are done rather quickly. I made an album for the lettering process

Then, you embellish it I'm far from pro. Theosone is my inspiration. That guy can draw!
@Pumpy: That HTC looks real! You modeled that?! O.o Sick!

I really wish I could draw - I have so many ideas for little games, but I can't bring them to life because a stickman with a curved spine and one leg longer than the other probably isn't going to cut it.

This! Very cool indeed. Art reveals traits of our personality that otherwise would stay hidden, which would be a complete waste . For example I'm still mesmerized by Vurt's creations in a way
(I was somewhat talented when I was very young, but then laziness and wrong life decisions prevailed. Now all I do is some silly photoshopping only for fun and that's it, nothing serious has ever crossed my mind ever and probably never will xD)

I like your city scapes very much. The photo manipulation isn't quite my cup of tea though.
I tried myself at some sprite animation.

Which shadow technique do you prefer?
Regarding the flickering version, I can imagine that having a higher framerate for the flickering would improve the perception of them anyway :/
Edit: Here a version of the checkered shadow @ 30fps

upper row middle is the best imo.no idea why you added that flickering,is it to mindcontrol people?
also: we should create a Brawler with Unity, you totally got that sprite art going. Playable chars are all NFOhump members

Well old consoles used those techniques to emulate transparent shadows. F.e. garou used the 3rd on on the bottom row. But I suppose the fickering was less visible on the real arcades because they were most likely running ntsc or pal (60hz or 50hz).
BTW do you prefer the current multi color outline or a simple black one?

Top middle for shadow and I don't really have an outright favourite for the outline.

Why can't it be 16 color + 8bit alpha?
Also, why 16 colors?

Ok, so dark colored outline.
@leo: Well because I want to go for that authentic look. I don't like it when games mess with the pixel look too much and can't find a proper consistency. F.e. slain looks really nice but then they have those silly "particle" effects that make the game look cheap.
Maybe I'll opt to 32 colors per object later on (just to add some anti aliasing pixels, but the main idea behind the palette will stay the same:transparent, black, grey, white and 4 shades for 3 colors where the darkest shade is for outline and the other 3 are for Base color, illuminated and shadow.

Since we have a few people that design characters... There's a question that I've had with the way some of these characters fight in indie games.
Is it a design decision to make them punch (or kick) like that? With 'that' I mean, like someone who doesn't have a proper fighting technique.
This is not criticism on your design btw, it's just for me to understand why I see this a lot. Wondering if my guess: 'it's a design decision' is right instead of them being created by people without knowledge of proper techniques.
Made me think at times it be fun to see some rpg brawler where the technique would improve with the skills you gain. As in: start inexperienced and turn in some master fighter and it gets reflected in the animation being used.

In this case it's most probably me doing something that will not require many frames to draw. You'll want that a simple punch animation will fire from the standard pose and go back to it in a reasonable time. The main stance was inspired by bruce lee, I pulled the punch movement out of my ass
Actually I'll redo them anyway, because I want to exaggerate them even further. The character will unlock new moves over time (like kicks, sliding attacks, uppercuts, dashes, flying kicks and flying dashes etc) and actually have some super moves too.
These current animations are just place holder for me. The final char will have different hair and more cloth (like a jacket) that moves to display some dynamics
