My work? It's very much programmer oriented, not much to show off unless you like looking at lines of code Smile But I'm working on it and will have some fancy graphics to show off in the future.

Thanks. Nah, been working on an engine of my own, writing the whole thing from scratch.

Not an easy undertaking, my head spun at times to work with already build game engines, Can't even think how putting one together would feel like.

Is it for learning purposes or a project you are working on? Smile

It wasn't easy, especially at the start, but it progressed so far that in a couple of years it could be good enough to rival certain commercial engines.

I wanted to learn, but also have a base for my future projects. Although I haven't started work on any games yet, primarily focusing on the engine and games may or may not come later.

I'm still on 4.2 atm, keep meaning to update.

I'm interested to see what you can do with the new GUI designer. Seems like they are taking a shot at Autodesk with that, trying to muscle in on Scaleform's market share.

Have to say, Unreal 4 does a good job rendering all that Ikea furniture Very Happy

But in all honesty what annoys me is that these demos always feature proper lighting. Proper lighting that can easily be implemented in games but developers never do it out of fear of peasants complaining that "it's too dark, I can't see" and you end up with some crap lighting.

Very few games do it and most of the times it's those games that people call "atmospheric". Yeah it's atmospheric because it has proper lighting instead of a damn light bulb shining out of the characters head to light the surroundings (whenever you are in a cave in Dragon Age 3).

I see that even in the new engine they still don't know how to properly render a mirror reflection Laughing

The video......MOTHER OF GOD!

The sad thing is, it probably will still be long way till we get the first good games with good performance and the details in those tech demos

The "next gen" consoles barely use the full power of Unreal 3.

We have to wait 10 years to get a game with those graphics Very Happy

AMD, why does it have to be AMD. Mad

They lost everything after thunderbird/athlon/x4. And i really used to love them.

I had both platforms and it was a fantastic time. But the tide has turned.

Can we please move on and get INTEL so far to make some lovely chips for dem console gamers?

You will see, no more shitty ports I Am Disappoint

Really wish there could be a way to properly penalize people/companies/whatever for gross misleading.

Would probably reduce my desire to punch everyone.

They still haven't found a good solution for reflections for highly reflective surfaces beyond cube maps it seems. For mirrors, I have to wonder if people wouldn't be better off sticking with the old school trick of having a hidden room behind the mirror where everything is reversed. Might be difficult in ArchVis stuff though where there is actually a physical room needed in the same place. I wonder if you could set the mirror to show the view through a camera in a hidden room under the level or something.

It looks good, but I'm not awed. Now, render the same scene with actual interactivity: opening doors, couches being used (with realistic material physics), objects being picked up, curtains being pulled (with realistic lightning changes) and stuff like that - and we're talking. Then add the ability to destroy objects - tear the curtains or scratch the sofa, for example (once again, with realistic behaviour) - then my jaw is on the floor Very Happy

Because static scenes... Ehh... So last decade.

Bah... that scene is not that hard to make using a photoscan process like they did in "The Vanishing of ethan Carter". Just a matter of patience and the right equipment, doesn't really tell anything about the engine.

Show me some interaction with the environment, some dynamic lighting, some destructibility, then I'll be impressed. As it stands, it's little more than a nice collage of photos that you can navigate.

then again, not all games need destructibility Wink
