There are about 130 files that exceed the character limit for Xbox (42 characters if I remember correctly). Has anyone been able to get around this issue? FlashFXP refuses to xfer the files.

having the same problem...the game developers finally got smarter. But it should work if you burn to a DVD.

I'll give that a try, although I have been overspoiled with the hard drive load times.

Hope to see a patch perhaps somehow someway.

Try using ACL processing in DVD2xbox... First burn it do a DVD and then use DVD2xbox with ACL processing... Should work, I haven't tested yet but I will soon probably. Will report back then.

Processing the ACL doesnt fix it either. I have processing with DVD2Xbox and QWIX.

It's an issue with the game, specifically the game data has a number of filenames which exceed the maximum character limit for the FATX filesystem. Those files can simply not exist in their current state on the Xbox hard drive., and you can't just rename them, as the game will still be looking for files with the old names.

In order for the game to work from HDD, all the references to the "illegal" files must be patched with shorter names and the files renamed accordingly.

Hopefully there will be a soul patch soon....

Well if I am not mistaken DVD2XBOX (any newer version) will shorten the filenames by itself and patch the needed files.

I am not sure though, I will take a look at it later today!

Edit:
The game works fine from HDD. No problem whatsoever. Here is what I did:

1. got the proper release just in case
2. unpacked and burned to a DVD-r
3. popped into my xbox and started once to test
4. IGR and started DVD2XBOX latest version (0.7.0)
5. enabled ACL processing and disabled "ACL deletion"
6. started the process and waited
7. Done! took a look at the report, no files skipped and 132 renamed ones (those should be all files with too long filename)
8. restarted and removed the disk
9. loaded the game from HDD and it started. Started a new game and tested for about 3mins and it worked fine.

Tested the same thing on my other xbox and it works there aswell.

1st xbox:
Xbox 1.6b with DuoX2 clone using EvoXM8Plus bios, XBMC as dash, 200gb HDD

2nd xbox:
Xbox 1.0 with Aladdin Advance using X2 4981.06 bios, Avalaunch as dash, 80gb HDD

Took a look what happens if I use Qwix and tried to transfer the files, it will load the iso and before the transfer pop up a note about "too long filenames" and you can manually rename them. I think Qwix will patch the xbe too to read the files. Thought fuck that and burned it instead and did the above things.

Conclusion:
Your DVD2XBOX version must be really outdated if it does not shorten the filenames. That is a process that has been implented for a very long time. I have no idea if Complex Tools accomplishes this aswell as I haven't used that since DVD2XBOX got usable.

If you simply unpacked the ISO and then transferred it to your xbox with FlashFXP or something and at the same time used XBMC as your dashboard it wont work. Why? Because XBMC shortens the filenames when they get transferred but it does not patch the xbe.

So update your DVD2XBOX, burn it and then play away from HDD:

i'm using xbmc as my dashboard and transfered the iso-contents with flashfxp
the xbmc-ftpserver renames the files that are too long Smile
i'm guessing there will be problems when the game tries to access the renamed files, though.
but so far it plays fine (played for 30min)

Ya its weird. I guess the faulty files are getting called up at different times. I have seen it freeze as early the second level and as late as the 11th. I am hearing rumors of a patch but have seen nothing yet. Sad

Ya i have seen the same thing. I have actually gone back and manually copied those files ok using flashfxp since those files arent long filenames. Still freezing. Sad

just to add to my previous comments... past the spot where the csiso rls froze for me after manually transferring over the missing 4 files, no issues so far (but only just got to the 3rd section of the city so far).

I finally found a way to get mine going. I had to run xbepatcher v.03 in the game directory to shorten all the long file names and patch the xbe. I haven't ran into any more freezing issues since.
Hope this helps someone out. If someone else could try this method out and verify that it does work that would be appreciated. Good Luck

How did you do it? Just placed the xbepatcher exe in the folder and double-clicked on it? Or did you runt it through a DOS-prompt?

Ya i didnt use any switches. I just put the .exe in the game directory and double clicked on it. It took a little while but not too long.

yeah, beatjunky, i tried your way. Only problem is that there are 4 files that just dont want to be renamed by the program, and it leaves them with the long filenames. All the others renamed though.

Hmm, That is strange i have tried it several times with success. Do you know what files they are? Are they in the stream directory? Make sure those files arent open or being accessed by like flashfxp or something. Have you tried to manually copy them over?

so does running XBEPatcher actually fix the problem? Have you encountered any freezes or dirty disc running from the HD?
