yeah doesn't surprise me, that someone will make a replacement. At least for bf2, which seems to be still quite active (due to mods i guess). Still, it's just shameful to cut server support for their games (it's not like they run the servers, just the auth servers lol).
But then it is EA ... and it's moves like this, that makes the world hate them.
cant they crowdsource funds to keep gamespy servers going? a few too many games that too many still enjoy to let it all just go away now ...
Several mod-teams (Project Reality, Forgotten Hope 2,...) created a workaround so that you create a login and see a serverlist via their servers.
Simply said it's a redirect to their servers, no more need of Gamespy. It didn't cost too much time and money, but we all know that EA is short in both so...your 'old' multiplayer games can gain dust now.
People always asked what would happen if Steam of Origin (or another 'service') stopped working. Well, with this Gamespy thingy you have your answer.
