My brother got the latest 331.82 drivers, downloaded them from nVidia, ran, and the installer failed. That's it. No error message, just "nVidia Installer Failed" - I've just spent the last THREE hours trying to fix it for him and nothing I've tried works. Nothing at all. DriverSweeper, DriverFusion, cleaning out every single piece of nVidia-related file and information I can - the installer still fails. Try to install in Safe Mode, installer still fails. Tried downloading older versions of the drivers, installer still fails. The only thing that works is installing the device driver manually through Device Manager>Update Driver -- but still the base installer fails. Constantly.

^^ Same thing.

~edit~

Now some of his games don't work properly any more Sad Assassin's Creed 4 has flickering shadows, Injustice during loading after selecting a character. Even uninstalling and going back to 331.65 (which ALSO requires force updating via Device Manager since the "installer failed" shit won't let the installer run) doesn't work - Injustice won't load a fight any more. He'll be buying an AMD card after Christmas, because nVidia have just gotten pathetic with their broken-ass piece of shit drivers.

What about DDU? It should remove everything and thus doing a clean install shouldn't be a problem.
(Unless it's a damaged registry entry or corrupt system file or something that's causing the installer to fail.)

DDU errors and fails, no idea why and no error code or number, it just "fails" like the installer. In the end he had to go back to March drivers and they worked - but again only via Device Manager. At least his games work now but it's safe to say if an nVidia engineer was burning alive my brother wouldn't even piss on him to put the flames out Laughing This really is just the last straw.

Create a restore point and then install. Worst that happens is you restore to before you installed the driver.

I guess this will be the last of the 331.xx drivers then since I don't think Nvidia goes over xxx.99 but we'll see.

I did, I usually do before a driver install because you never know what's going to happen, luckily the driver installed perfectly though Smile I can't say I'm seeing much of any difference between 331.65 and 331.82 though.

Nope, and driver has been delayed (was pulled shortly after) to fix a GPU Boost feature, hence download links are dead, but all that's changed, compared to last, is the following:

Code:
-Desktop instability with some Geforce 460/560 GPUs
-Some multi-player avatar models are missing textures for faces and apparel in Assassins Creed IV

Thanks JB. Just when I was getting used to not getting nvidia drivers on a weekly basis, THIS HAPPENS! Laughing

I'll check em out when I get home, in the meanwhile time to read the guru and see what people have to say.

Open up the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to "Adjust Desktop Color Settings", then click on "Other Applications Control Color Settings", and then back on "Use NVIDIA settings". It should reset the brightness/gamma to normal.

I've pretty much had this bug on boot-up for years.

1. Which drivers are best for a 660? The newest ones or are there still some problems? I won't be playing any of the newest games soon.

2. Is it a good idea to use the adaptive power management mode? My PC runs idle often, so that will save me some money on electricity bills, but my previous card died (actually only the fan on it died), so I'm a bit worried.
